MarvinisaLunatic Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 Funnyman Jack Black has signed on to star in an as-yet untitled comedy for Nickelodeon, Variety reports. The film, being directed by Jared Hess ("Napoleon Dynamite") and written by Mike White, is based on a true story of Mexican priest (Black) who secretly moonlights as a masked wrestler in order to save an orphanage from shutting down. "I can't think of two people I'd rather party with than Mike White and Jared Hess," Black told Variety. "I can't wait to get down to Mexico." Black, who just wrapped up work on "King Kong," previously worked with White on "The School of Rock" and "Orange County." The film begins shooting in the fall. Uh. What an odd choice for the role of a MEXICAN WRESTLING PRIEST.
Guest MikeSC Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 To paraphrase David Spade, I didn't like this first time I saw it, when it was called "Learning the Ropes" -=Mike

Ripper Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 A shitty sitcom about a teacher that was a wrestler at night. Its from the late 80's or early 90's. I think Canada was responsible.
Ced Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 Was that the one that starred Lyle Alzado and lasted only a handful of epiisodes before getting shitcanned?
Ravenbomb Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 Jack Black is El Santo or El Garbagio? he's El Santo. I hear they're already doing a sequel in which he teams up with Jesus to fight vampires
Guest TheLastBoyscout Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 Jack Black is El Santo or El Garbagio? Fray Tormenta (Friar Storm in English) is a true story.
razazteca Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 Jack Black is El Santo or El Garbagio? he's El Santo. I hear they're already doing a sequel in which he teams up with Jesus to fight vampires Kyle Glass as Blue Demon?

The Tino Standard Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 When I first read the subject line, I thought it said "Jack Bauer is a wrestling priest in Mexico." Given some of the other stuff he's pulled off on 24, I said, "Why not?"
Jingus Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Anyone else get a mental picture of JB playing the action hero Mexican priest from all those movies on King Of The Hill?
Mole Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 The film, being directed by Jared Hess ("Napoleon Dynamite") Booo. and written by Mike White Yah.
Guest Vitamin X Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 Napoleon Dynamite was one of those movies which upon first viewing isn't all that impressive, but gets better with repeated viewings.
JMFabiano524 Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 I'm hoping they had this in mind when saying that JB would be playing a "funny" Green Lantern (debunked since by Wizard, Dan Didio, and/or Geoff Johns)
Jericholic82 Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 This reminds me of the episode of "That's My Bush" when Cheney becomes prez and W becomes a masked wrtestler called "the masked loser" anyhow this sounds corny enough to be at least a little funny. and they should bring in El Asso Wipo and Senor Bag of Crap to make this work.
