Eclipse Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Well, head over to the DOI site. There is a short review, only with the results of today's show. It was announced at the show Matt Hardy will be wrestling for JAPW June 4th.
LucharesuFan619 Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 His contract isn't up till June or July 11 (I forget which). Hows that possible?
Mole Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Now maybe I am wrong here, but if one is released, can't they do anything they want? It isn't like he quit, they got rid of him.
LucharesuFan619 Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 No, he still has a no compete clause, even though they released him.
Mole Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 I never understood how that could be legal. Does that work for other sports too?
UseTheSledgehammerUh Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Professional wrestling is not a sport. A more likely comparison would be Eliza Dushku not being allowed to do her own show on "The WB" for 3 months if FOX fired her from "Tru Calling" or she quit, etc.
JoeDirt Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Maybe JAPW isn't officially "competition"? *shrugs*
LucharesuFan619 Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 I never understood how that could be legal. Does that work for other sports too? No idea. Good question, though.
bob_barron Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 His contract isn't up till June or July 11 (I forget which). Hows that possible? They can work anywhere but TNA. And Matt Hardy is still getting paid his downside guarantee by WWE
LucharesuFan619 Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 I don't think so Bob. From what he said on between the ropes, he can't work anywhere till that date, whether it be TNA or elsewhere.
Guest Iron Nick Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 He won't be wrestling, he'll just be there. Like Tommy Dreamer did in ROH for example.
Guest Miss Indy Queen Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 He can't wrestle until after July 11th, so I'm pretty sure he'll just be there and sign autographs.
Eclipse Posted April 24, 2005 Author Report Posted April 24, 2005 Yeah, I was thinking the same, he should have a no compete clause. But yeah, he will be there, in non wrestling capacity, but he could have a role in the show. That would be cool. If he does, I wanna see how he will written into the storylines.
stahl Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 According to guys like Meltzer, not compete clauses mainly mean no TNA or Japan.
edotherocket Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 According to guys like Meltzer, not compete clauses mainly mean no TNA or Japan. What do the WWE care if a wrestler goes to Japan?
stahl Posted April 25, 2005 Report Posted April 25, 2005 What do the WWE care if a wrestler goes to Japan? Ask Brock Lesnar.
Eclipse Posted April 26, 2005 Author Report Posted April 26, 2005 Well, JAPW said themselves that Matt would be there in non wrestling capacity. Maybe they didn't wanna piss off WWE or something.
Guest Shadow Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 What do the WWE care if a wrestler goes to Japan? Ask Brock Lesnar. Brock Lesnar would actually make an impact in Japan. I cant see Matt doing that...
Fro Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 What do the WWE care if a wrestler goes to Japan? Ask Brock Lesnar. Brock Lesnar would actually make an impact in Japan. I cant see Matt doing that... I wouldn't see Jamal or Bull Buchanan making an impact in Japan, but they are. Very strange times over there. Jamal beat Kobashi in a match.
nl5xsk1 Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 I never understood how that could be legal. Does that work for other sports too? No idea. Good question, though. While it's not a sport at all, if people get laid off from my company, part of their severance package includes rules about talking about the company for 3 months, along with a no-compete clause for up to one year.

Yeah, Japan does some whacky stuff. Hell, Bart Gunn was over in Japan. They qualify what they like to watch differently than we do in the states. I could see Matt doing very well in Japan, play up his use of the Black Tiger Bomb, bill him as the American Tiger or something definatively Japanese. It would work. And the WWE can't stop Matt from showing up at shows, just from actively working a match.
