Small, Medium, Large, and Fullscreen. I thik you need iTunes to watch the fullscreen version. Everything else is normal quicktime.

 

Random thoughts:

 

-Looks pretty cool.

-dont like the references to 'cult hit' or whatever, pigeonholes the movie. its remarkable how many people will avoid something if they're convinced its only "geek stuff".

-something sounds off about Mal's voice.

-The Reaver (?) cameo was cool.

-River kicks ass.

-A little too many title/text screens.

-Very cool effects. Looks like they ditched the muted sound aspect.

-River kicks ass.

-Western elements have been mostly phased out it appears. Mixed feelings about that. On the show I wasnt so hot about the western stuff, but if you take them out, it feels kind of "generic sci-fi".

-Good job establishing background on characters

-I didn't see Book anywhere

Woah, that was phat.

 

I had to go into my friends room because I don't have any speakers on my computer. And it sucks because I want to watch the trailer some more, then some more again. Wow, I think Joss has something really good on his hands.

 

Or I am just hoping a little too much.

 

And remember guys, Serenity was SUPPOSED to come out this Friday.

I'm not thrilled about the toning-down of the Western themes, as that was one of the coolest things about the show...

 

... that said, the trailer looks awesome. :headbang:

Anybody know how to download the quicktime trailers?

I'm sure Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was also a factor

Yeah, between HHGttG, Star Wars and War of the Worlds it's a pretty heavily packed few months for Sci-Fi, while Firefly fans would obviosuly go see it no matter when it's released it'd get lost in the shuffle for the others..but the trailer put in with Hitchhiker will be a good way to expose it to hardcore sci-fi and casual sci-fi fans who haven't heard of or seen Firefly.

I wasn't exactly blown away by that trailer. I really don't think it will attract a lot of new viewers, only the original fanbase. Mentioning Buffy was a terrible move, as Buffy has such a stigma attached to it (ever talk to a non-Buffy fan about Buffy? Yeah).

 

I thought it might have been better if they tried to be a little more mysterious about the movie, instead of giving away most of the story and talking about how it has millions of fans. A Matrix-style marketing approach could have worked; try and draw in some non-fans to see it the first weekend out of "what's going on?" factor, then they word-of-mouth spreads about how good the movie is.

If they wanted it to suceed so bad, they shouldn't have had the release date in September. September is THE WORST month when it comes to the box office.

Meh. Team Joss didn't cut that trailer, it was kinda obviously a studio deal.

Well.

 

It gets better.

 

As thus: The movie is very nearly finished. You've seen many pretty images in the trailer. But I've still got work to do and you've still got months before you can see it.

 

Unless.

 

And, no, I'm not talking Australia (but Hi, Australia! anyway), I'm talking here in the more-or-less-United States, a one time multi-city Browncoat sneak event. Thursday, May 5th at 10:00 pm, the movie (Serenity! Pay attention! Jeez.) will be playing at exactly 10 theaters in 10 cities across the country. You (or possibly someone much like you) (or possibly a robot EXACTLY like you, but with better manners and sonic arm-lasers, sent to take your place) will be able to buy a ticket to see Serenity months in advance. Not just the bitty trailer with not enough Kaylee and Book, but the whole film, in its extremely almost completed state.

 

You probably have some questions. How is this possible? What cities exactly will it be in? What are these changes my body is going through? All valid. It's possible because some clown put a bunch of Universal execs in a theater full of Browncoats and dude, they came out SWEATING, they never seen energy like that. They loved it, and even though they were already wicked supportive of the movie (see: earlier posts re: we're making the movie) they simply weren't ready for you guys. When I whinged on about pushing the date and everyone here was posting about "what do we do till September", they agreed to let me sneak it out.

 

Maybe they thought it was a fluke. Maybe they wanna see if people really do care about the flick. Or maybe they're just treating us with respect and kindness, though that last option confuses and terrifies me as much as these changes my body is going through (I'm "perspiring" and becoming "interested in girls", which believe me is very unsettling when you're 40.) Does it matter? The plan works for me, and it can work for a select bunch of y'all. Here's what I know:

 

The cities to be hit are:

 

Seattle

Austin

Sacramento

Boston

Altanta

Chicago

San Francisco

Las Vegas

Denver

The Portland of Oregon

 

If you're in or near one of those, you might wanna stop by. There's supposed to be a "Can't Stop the Signal" page on this website (I don't know where it is -- hey, I remembered my damn password, doesn't that buy me any cred?) There should be more info there soon about how to get in, bringing peeps into the fold, I think there's even competetions and stuff. (All I know is I have exactly 20 Brownie points. I answered ONE triv Q and got it wrong. Forget cred. I have no cred.) Now a couple of us might just creep into one of those major metropolitan multiplexes to see if anyone does show up, so remember: swearing in Chinese ONLY.

 

All right. This will please the fans and satisfy the employers of Joss Whedon, so I must stop as my arm-lasers are getting tired. I politely thank you for your attention.

 

Should be fun.

That was all right. It's a trailer for a film that I'd want to see but end up missing in the theaters because it's a film that I'd always tell people I wanted to see only when the subject of recent movies came up. I'll see it on DVD in like, 2007 probably.

Watch the DVD box set of the TV series first, Kotz. Trust me on this one.

I never really got Buffy.

I never got a chance to properly get into Angel.

 

I think I just came after watching that trailer.

 

After never even considering watching Firefly I reached a point on needing something to occupy oneself. And after a recent TV binge (watching Lost, Veronica Mars and Carnivale in very quick sucession) I decided to check out the aforementioned show.

 

I watched that in a couple of days and then immediately came here remembering theres a trailer for the upcoming film.

 

Oh.My.God.

 

What kills me is that as much as I'd love to see this film in the cinema first time it ain't happening as no doubt theres going to be another 3 - howevermany months before this comes out in the UK. And I need to see this film, so very badly.

 

What also kills me is that to get anyone else into this film I've got to ensure they watch all of firefly soon.

 

Well, thats my little soliloquy to explain how great that show is.
