DOI reporting that Chris Candido has died...

Recommended Posts

This is a crime. It's that god damn simple. The guy worked his ass off to get clean, he stood by his wife through all her problems and it looked like for once in both of their lives that everything was going good. And then, like a thief in the night, Chris is gone and all the hard work amounts to god damn nothing.

God damn shame.

ETA: I don't even know if him and Tammy were married and I determined I don't care. They were so close that a piece of paper means nothing to me.

I was just listening to last nights edition of BTR, and they were reporting about Candido's injury.

Damn.

Didn't see much of his work sadly as I got into ECW late but I hope people watch over Tammy.

She's going to need alot of help.

If they can still add something, if I were TNA I'd have Mike Tenay tape an announcement to air at the beginning of the show announcing Candido's death expressing TNA's deep sadness and explain that iMPACT! was taped several days before he died, and that that it features Candido's final moments in a wrestling ring and thus iMPACT! is dedicated to him and as fans watch they should celebrate his life and career. Then at the end of iMPACT! put up a graphic.

That would be really classy, I hope they're able to do something like that.

TNA always does classy stuff, but if they could do it in time is another question.

Exactly. If there's nothing added to the show we know it's because the tape was already sent out. I'm almost positive if they can edit it in time something like I proposed will be on there. For Curt Hennig they did this really classy deal with his boots and like a framed picture of him were in the ring while the bell sounded 10 times...

Man, this, this is just hella unexpected. I enjoyed most of his work in the ring. I'm glad I do have a few of his ECW matches on tape and dvd. Wow man, I just can't express how much this has shocked me.

R.I.P Chris, thank you for some good times.

I'm sure Shane Douglas will have some sort of a tribute for his friend and former tag partner at the Hardcore Homecoming show. Even after his leg injury he was still scheduled to be there to manage from his wheel chair...

I'll admit, I didn't follow his career back in ECW...but I've heard things about him and I was really pulling for him in TNA. Just logging on and hearing this news...I just couldn't believe it and I still can't. This is seriously fucked up. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

RIP

I'd hope so and I hope that WWE at least does the same for Chris at their ECW ppv as well, it wouldn't be right if they didn't.

I'm shocked. Truly sad news indeed, in fact I'm having trouble believing it's true since I just seen him live on PPV a few nights ago. RIP Chris.

I wonder if Vince will give him a mention on RAW? Probably not. I also wonder if TNA will address his death on tommorow's Impact? Again, probably not, unless they scrap the Naturals/AMW match....

I doubt it. TNA has already aired for this week in some markets. They don't have the time to put it in.

I don't know if I can watch TNA this week... just seeing him help The Naturals, and knowing that it'll be his last time in the ring and on our TV screens ever?

I'll watch it, but I just don't know if I can handle it...

Dave Prazak's post from the IWA boards:

To say I'm in shock right now is a complete understatement.

Chris Candido was such an amazing locker room presence for the IWA Mid-South roster during the past eight months.

Much like Tracy Smothers, Chris was very eager to help out the younger talent to help improve their game, and had a newfound desire and determination to step up his own game several notches, and prove to everyone that he was a real contributor to pro wrestling in 2005. Everyone within the promotion, as well as our fans were so very proud to see that he had gotten his career back on track.

Personally, I didn't really start following independent level wrestling until about 1993. The initial smaller organizations I began to follow at the time were Smoky Mountain Wrestling and Dennis Coralluzzo's NWA promotion in New Jersey. Without a doubt, the one independent level star I marked out for more than anyone at the time was Chris Candido. His over the top personality, comedic ability, and hard work in the ring were such an entertaining combination that I couldn't help but become a fan of his work. At the time I was publishing a wrestling newsletter while attending high school, and made sure to send Chris a complimentary copy of each issue, knowing he read the sheets himself.

I was incredibly proud to watch his career progress into becoming a major star on national television during the mid-90's for the WWF as part of the Bodydonnas, despite his lack of size. When opportunity knocked for me to get involved with an independent promotion as a ring announcer, that promotion was run by Dennis Coralluzzo. I'll admit that a big part of why I was eager to work for Dennis was the idea that I'd be working for the same promoter who helped Chris get many of his early opportunities in the wrestling business.

When I finally got the chance to appear on a wrestling show with Chris and Tammy in June of 1996 for Dennis, I was sent back into mark-out mode. It was such an honor to share a locker room with someone whose talents I appreciated so greatly. The same was still very true five years later when Chris and Tammy made their way to IWA Mid-South in 2001 for shows in Dayton, Charlestown, and Indianapolis.

Late last year, IWA Mid-South welcomed Chris Candido back into the fold. He had really turned things around, and was determined to work his way back into national prominence once again for being such a versatile performer. The locker room was full of young wrestlers that were happy to see someone with such amazing abilities get his career back on track, and bust his ass even for just a few hundred fans in a rec center outside Chicago or a double digit crowd in southern Indiana. Ian put together a Chris Candido vs. AJ Styles match specifically to show everyone just how good Chris was, and that he could still "go" with a current junior heavyweight star if given the opportunity. His match with Jimmy Jacobs in Rock Island, and the eight man tag in Lafayette, will go down as two of the most entertaining matches I've ever witnessed.

Whenever Chris would say hello in the locker room in recent months, he'd call me "Dave Meltzer," remembering back to when I'd send him my newsletter twelve years ago. Every time I'd look across the IWA Mid-South locker room and see Chris Candido place his gear bag alongside guys like Matt Sydal, Chris Hero, and Trik Davis, I'd shake my head and smile. It was so awesome to have Chris be a part of our roster of hungry young talent.

"Hey Meltzer, what happened the the blond hair?"

"I realized the short guy with bleached blond hair gimmick wasn't over, so I shaved it off."

"I wish I'd have known that sooner."

Truth be told, the gimmick was over, but only Chris Candido could actually pull it off.

Rest in peace, Chris. You will be missed.

I honestly can't believe it, what makes it even sadder was he and Tammy had finally gotten over their respective problems and were back on the right path. There really is no fucking justice in this world :( .

This has been a total shock and a big loss to this world. Here we have a man who loved this business and it showed when after surgery he goes to the iMPACT! tapings the next day. I was really into his comeback as he has always been a solid worker. Great psychology that is really lacking today. My thoughts are with Chris Candido's Family and Friends.

Tomorrow show is gonna be hard to stomach for most, because I'm sure the announcers will be berating Candido's heel tactics. It's kinda like how the WWE couldn't show too many Owen clips because the commentary during his matches wasn't usually favorable. Either way...I can't believe he's gone. I've been enjoying his comeback and he was singlehandely responsible for me caring about the Naturals again. R.I.P Chris Candido :(

This is one of the most depressing things I've heard in a while. This guy passed away at too young of an age. 33? That's asinine. This is just all around depressing to hear. I really hope Tammy is able to keep her life in check because I can't imagine the stuff that's inside her head right now and how it makes her feel.

I feel bad for both families. 33...

Wow.

I really don't believe this. This one actually hits home harder than a lot of other recent passings personally. I've always been a Candido fan, plus I'm a big IWA:MS fan too, so seeing him back, rehabilitated and as healthy as ever was fantastic. It was obvious he was a real nice guy too, just from how he came off at shows.

And then, after all the hard work he did in changing his life for the better, something like this happens. Truly tragic.

R.I.P Chris.

This is terribly sad news. I can't believe he died so young after managing to turn things around.

I really could not believe this when I read it on PWI. It's weird...I was just kinda reminiscing this morning about how not a few years ago Elizabeth had died and how sudden and sad it was...and then I read about Chris Candido.

Johnny Candido's post on the UXW boards made me feel a bit better, though. I'm glad Chris died a happy man and looking upward. My heart goes out to Tammy most of all. As we've seen before with her story about her father's death and then her niece's, she doesn't deal with death well.

This is fucking unbelievable, you don't fucking die after an operation on a broken leg, you just don't.

Fuck.

I loved his ECW 'No Gimmick Needed' work and was so pleased he'd managed to turn things round for himself and get a good spot in TNA after being brought in to start pretty much as just a jobber and now this happens.

Fuck.

I'll be so pissed if Vince doesn't do anything, but to be honest I'd be very surprised if they mention it concidering Trips and Shawn weren't exactly on good terms with him.

Fuck.

:(

Wow, I just saw the 'DOI has reported...' part on the forum home page and thought nothing of it, but then I saw the memorial pictures and realised just what the hell was going on.

That's a damn shame, every bit of his work I enjoyed, especially what little of his ECW stuff I saw. I've still got a couple of his matches in my tape collection, including the one on the Micak Foley DVD, that I might go and watch now.

RIP Chris, and thanks for everything.

I've fallen out of touch with the business (I haven't watched an entire NWA or WWE show in more than three years now), but Candido was a favorite among myself and my friends. He brought something different than a lot of people, he was entertaining and he was very talented.

Godspeed to Chris and his family.
