I did watch a little bit of the Cartoon Network marathon of the Clone Wars, and really I didn't care either way about it. I wasn't going to spend such a crazy amount of time on a bunch of cartoons, especially when the films themselves should cover the important stuff.

The Animatrix might be great but since the Matrix sequels sucked the fat one I am really not inclined to check it out. As I said, don't spend so much time making cartoons and all that extra crap so great...make the actual movies great.

There's a simple explanation for that.

The people who make the cartoons aren't the same people who make the movies.

And Clone Wars Vol.2 was WAAAAYY better than Volume 1. Vol. 2 had an actual story, whereas Vol. 1 was just a collection of cool battles...and an "Akira" rip-off featuring Obi-Wan.

I watched Phantom Menace recently for the first time in about two years, and it was a lot better than I remember. Jar Jar isn't that annoying in hindsight, just ignore him and its all fine. The battle scene between the droids and Gun-guns is actually really well done IMO and the three way saber duel is good fun. Most significantly I found that despite Jake Lloyd's terrible acting, all the Anakin scenes are really good, helping to build up the character's eventual downfall.

Still after the Original Trilogy, but lightyears ahead of Attack of Clones.

The main problem with AOTC was that Lucas told Hayden not to show any hint of Vader untill the scene with the Sand People. As a result, the acting was wooden, and the chemistry was almost non--existant.

I've got a theory that Lucas made the prequel characters boring on purpose so when future generation watch I-VI in order, the transition from one group of characters to the other will be easier for kids to handle. Remember, this is the guy who refused to kill off any of the main characters in "Return of the Jedi" because he thought it'd upset the kids in the audience.

Incidentally, I paid for the whole extended family to go see it, 10 adults, including myself, and one child; my nephew. Cost me about $70.

I think that theory gets shot to hell when Anakin turns to the Dark Side, though. There will be a lot of death and destruction.

The only good-guy characters who die in this movie are nameless Jedi and boring-ass Padme.

That's not exactly the same as Luke, Han, or Lando getting killed (ideas which were thrown around while the original trilogy was being written...vetoes by Lucas for the reason I already mentioned).

People are still hating on Salvatore for killing off Chewbacca. Even though the editors pretty much ordered him too, Salvatore was the only one who would do it, because none of the current generation of Star Wars EU authors would do it.

Also, the editors originally wanted Luke to be the one killed, but can you imagine the shitstorm from that one?

So any guesses on what the opening Box Office is gonna be for ROTS? If I'm not mistaken this is the first non-wednesday opening for the Star Wars franchise. Do you think this is good or bad?

AOTC was released on a Thursday, as well. I know, because when I went to go see it, I was working overnight, and saw it after my Wednesday-into-Thursday night shift was over.

This takes the cake for ticket stories I've heard thus far. I say that without ridiculing too. Crono's done something interesting.

I don't think I'll be able to sleep on Tuesday in anticipation of Wednesday night.

Leia could give Luke a blowjob (while Han watched) in the EU and I still wouldn't care.

Pitch that idea to Bantam, and I'd bet you 10-to-1, they'd run with it.

Or some psycho fan would write a disturbing XXX fanfic about it.

You're right, my mistake. AOTC opened with $30 million on a Thursday and ended up with $116 million on its first 4 days for a grand total of $310 mil when its run finished. I strongly believe ROTS will surpass it.

Maybe I should have posted this on the Box Office thread, but since this is the SW thread I figured it would be interesting.

Man, 11pm on friday can't come soon enough.

I went back and read the short conversation about what drugs people are using before the show, and all I could think of was, "Wanna buy some death sticks?"

I thought buying my ticket a month in advance would earn me a spot as one of the lamest kids I know, but strangely, people are coming to me trying to figure out how they, too, can get a midnight showing and accompany myself and my friends to the show. So I began to wonder- have any of the midnight showings been sold out? What kind of crowd are we looking at here?

Never mind sold out, I've read news storys that say people are all ready lining up for it at some theatres, and have been for about a week already.

Hell, I bought my midnight ticket yesterday. You can still get them if you go online.

This is where the old Showcase Cinemas closing down really sucks. I went to see ROTK at the Showcase at the midnight showing, though we made the foolish idea to sit in the 3rd row of a huge ass theater and that movie is enough to clear your sinuses. I got home with a pounding headache at about 4am.

Point is that it was a wild experience aside from that, what with people dressed up like Frodo and what not. And that is with LOTR. Imagine that place for a Star Wars movie. If I see a midnight showing it'd probably be at somewhere like Stonybrook and that place blows.

I think this film will make more than AOTC by far, over 100 million more. It didn't seem like AOTC had a lot of hype surrounding it really, just "Hey, here's the 2nd in this uninspired prequel trilogy." I saw it the first weekend but I can't say I rushed out to see it.

I think AOTC is vastly better than Phantom Menace, which is by far the worst film in the series. Not close. Phantom Menace is really embarrassing in some ways, namely Jar Jar, but also the Trade Federation guys are blatant Japanese stereotypes (why this isn't hated on more I don't know), the slave owning fly dude seems like a cheesy Mexican stereotype, there are fart jokes (in a Star Wars movie???), and Qui Gon is certainly the worst Jedi character in the series.

AOTC at least has a really killer last 40m or so and a good heel in Christopher Lee.

I thought I was watching an original trilogy movie or something when watching Volume 2 (all at once). Sucker moved through action, fun, and plot, with virtually little sitting around exposition. I probably already meantioned this before but the assault on Coruscant could easily have been the best onscreen battle of the whole series (and kicked the BUTT of matrix 3's attack on zion). "Why the fuck aren't we seeing this in the movies!?" was a common utterance from my mouth when watching it, especially Anakin's initiation from pupil to full jedi knight, that was badass. yet another aweosme moment that we didnt see in the movies.

It would have made a great prequel film #2 (with AOTC being Ep1, and phantom menace simply not exisitng).

Does anyone know if the Clone Wars series is going to be marathoned or anything similar in the UK before Thursday? I've seen some but would like to catch them all before I go see ROTS.

is Anakin's scar aquirred pre-ROTS or during?

It was pre-ROTS, exactly between episode 21 and 22 of the Clone Wars ( but they never sow how ) … I can’t wait until Wednesday ( The movie is opening the 18th in Europe ) , I never wanted to see a movie so badly :)
