Guest Redhawk Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Every sport has their media-overhyped busts, but who did you personally think was going to be a great one and never panned out? (either they never made it at all, or they never became the Hall of Famer you thought they'd be.) My list includes... John Wallace, Syracuse b-ball Rey Ordonez, Mets shortstop Drew Gooden, Kansas b-ball Ron Mercer, Kentucky b-ball Rocket Ismail, Notre Dame football Anthony "A-Train" Thomas, WR Tim Biakabutuka, Michigan RB Ki-Jana Carter, Penn State RB Shaheen Holloway, Seton Hall PG Dion Glover, Georgia Tech SG/SF Corliss Williamson, Arkansas PF
ISportsFan Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Anthony "A-Train" Thomas, WR As a Bears fan, I know all too well that he's a RB. And he wasn't a total bust; he had a lot of yards his rookie year during the fluke 13-3 season. Unless, of course, I am having a brainfart. Jason
Mik Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 "Barfight" Brien Taylor Danny Tartabull Kevin Maas Anybody notice a trend?

The funny thing about A-Train is that on Madden 2004 (for me, at least) he sometimes ran like the next Jim Brown, but he doesn't do shit in real life.
JoeDirt Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Jerome Walton. Great rookie of the year season for the Cubs in 1989, and then dropped off the map.
CanadianChris Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Pitcher for the Mariners. Don't you have to have played for more than 3 years (unless you flamed out of the league) before being considered a total bust?
Guest Redhawk Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Speaking of great rookie seasons, there were two guys who I remember winning MLB Rookie of the Year that I never heard of afterwards: Pat Listach (Brewers) and Bob Hamelin (Royals). Anyone know what happened to them?
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Cade McNown Ryan Leaf Tee Martin Jarious Jackson Shaun King Just to name a few QBs....
Spaceman Spiff Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Jarious Jackson? From Notre Dame? They haven't produced a good QB since Joe Montana graduated.
Guest Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Jose Offerman Todd Hollandsworth Pedro Astacio Ramon Martinez Those are a few Dodgers that never turned out the way I expected.
Guest Redhawk Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Didn't Hollandsworth win Rookie of the Year, too? Is the MLB ROY like a kiss of death or something?
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Jarious Jackson? From Notre Dame? They haven't produced a good QB since Joe Montana graduated. Yes him. I thought he'd be a decent passer but a great scrambler in the NFL. Another ND player I thought would do well- Tony Rice. HBs: Travis Prentice J.R. Redmond Ron Dayne WRs: David Terrell Peter Warrick Jacquez Green
Guest Rrrsh Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Pitcher for the Mariners. Don't you have to have played for more than 3 years (unless you flamed out of the league) before being considered a total bust? The question was Guys you thought would be great but didn't live up too MY expectations. With his arm problem, I think he fits.

Lindros and Daigle immediatly spring to mind.
Guest Rrrsh Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Cade McNown Ryan Leaf Tee Martin Jarious Jackson Shaun King Just to name a few QBs.... Jarius Jackson is currenty fighting for the 3rd string QB of the BC Lions of the CFL. Yah, I'd say he busted.
UZI Suicide Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Ryan Anderson - SP, Mariners Steve Emtman - DL, Colts Peter Warrick - WR, Bengals Derrick Mayes - WR, Packers R. Jay Soward - WR, Jaguars Kenny Anderson - PG, Many Teams
therealworldschampion Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Herschel Walker He was a decent NFL player, but he had a ton of hype coming out of Georgia and with the Dallas/Minnesota trade...
Guest Brian Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 I remember the hype around Jim Fleming when he was coming out of the M's farm league.
Red Baron Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Doug Wickenheiser (over Denis Savard...wow) Alexandre Daigle Patrik Stefan Jamal Anderson Tim Biakabutuka, Michigan RB...didn't tore his ACL or some serious leg injury in his second season> Shaun King got shafted by the Bucs...he was the future, but I guess Brad Johnson is better.
NoCalMike Posted May 11, 2005 Report Posted May 11, 2005 Tod Van Poppel Steve Karsay Michael Westbrook.
