One Night Stand

Recommended Posts

I thought the show was great from a mark standpoint, from a smark's, i saw most of it coming, but still.

I did shed a manly tear over the ECW bit, even if most of it was nothing more than a Vince ego trip.

Thoughts?

Sorry, it's probably been discussed on the Official Raw Thread. But I don't want to sift through those while as drunk as i am now.

Vince giving ECW the seal of approval really killed a lot of the excitement I had for the show. How can ECW be anti-establishment when Vince already gave it a public gold star?

I'd sell my genitals to see Cyrus there.

But Paul E will cell phone Bischoff instead of Cyrus, because of the shitty terms on which he left WWF.

Raw army? that worries me.

If it is influenced by say watching hours of puro tapes and say somebody like Christian wears a Captian uniform and Tomko wears camo or if Heindrich becomes an Army Ranger then it could be entertaining.

Bischoff is way more hated than Vince by both WWE and ECW fans.

It was the right call for who the vilian should be.

Umm hello, they didn't break any new ground with that, it was all covered on the ECW DVD. Really though, no one expects to see ECW reborn at one night only, just some good nostalgia that if financially successful, could make it a re-occuring thing in the future.

I'm well aware of the dvd but as you know, that's far different from what gets presented on Raw. We didn't have to see Vince's on-air character praise ECW to no end and encourage the chants.

I agree, but there had to be *some* prominent member of WWE that praised ECW if they're going to attract people who weren't fans of ECW to take a chance and order the pay-per-view. I realise it's not in keeping with ECW's underdog anti-establishment attitude, but if everyone in WWE keeps slamming ECW just to remain in character (Jerry Lawler, most of all) it'll just end up damaging their image. When they keep repeating 'Extremely Crappy Wrestling' and present watered-down garbagey 'ECW Rules' matches, soon enough people are gonna believe it.

Also, I gotta say it was nice to hear Vince finally praise ECW on-air, especially given that all of WWF's success in the late 1990s can be attributed to marketing ECW's hardcore philosophy into the more user-friendly 'Attitude'. On the other hand, it was selfish to hear Vince act like he was ECW's knight in shining armour by secretly financing them when taking Taz & the Dudleys in 1999 was a far more crushing blow to ECW than WCW ever did. In hindsight, Vince's financing just prolonged ECW's inevitable demise so that he could have a greater pool of talent to pick and choose from.

That RAW army will have the ECW marks going crazy OR will have them hating it. Hell, I can see the entire ECW roster DESTROYING Bischoff's army, and Bischoff himself. It would be nice markout moment.

Honestly, I think Lawler should be apart of the "Raw Army". It would make complete sense if he did, if he didn't I would say the "Raw Army" will be nothing more than Heat jobbers with a few added bigger names from Raw....and I sware to God if Nova is apart of the "Raw Army" he better turn on them or I will shit all over the ppv.

Last time I checked, the only three people ripping on ECW on RAW are:

1) Eric Bischoff

2) Jerry Lawler

3) The guy in the crowd this Monday night with the sign that said "ECW SUCKS...GET OVER IT"

Well if Cyrus can't be at the PPV than they need to get Joel "The Quintinsensitional Studmuffin" Gertner!

Styles, above all.

Gertner and Cyrus are fantastic, but Styles, above all, is ECW.

And I'd like to see HC Loch, Jim Molineuax and John Finegan as refs.

Lawler has a history of attacking ECW guys. That said, Bischoff and his guys absolutely have to get their asses kicked at the ECW PPV. Nothing else will be tolerated.

For this ppv to work for me, they have to have Styles and from all accounts as of right now, that isn't happening. That could just be a negotiating tactic on his part to wait until the eleventh hour to get max money (and I don't blame him). However, a WWE guy announcing an ECW ppv even if this is just a one time thing is just wrong to me. I might have to watch this show muted if they give us Cole or Lawler announcing because that would be sickening on many levels. Tazz I'll tolerate since he is actually an ECW alum and a halfway decent commentator. JR, eh, still bugs me but that wouldn't kill me like Cole or Lawler.

Lawler is a deal-breaker simply because we would most likely have to hear "See JR, Extremely Crappy Wrestling, like I said all along" while Tajiri and Super Crazy are working a superb match in the ring.

I can't see how anyone who considered themselves an ECW fan could actually like this crap. ECW, to me, was the exact opposite of what the WWE is doing with it. It looks like the WWE is trying to pull another InVasion number by putting three groups in there. Thing is, that was 4 years ago. The only thing the WWE got right was the name of the show, and really, the WWE never had a problem with play-on-words. Here's an idea, rather than selling it as "Smackdown Guyz vs. Raw Guyz. vs. ECW guysz" how about announcing some matches and then put on examples of the kind of wrestling that will be seen at the show (other than the shitty hardcore stuff Benoit and Tajiri did - hey, how about airing ECW matches on Raw and Smackdown leading up to the PPV?). As is, this ECW PPV is just a WWE PPV, with WWE wrestlers, in WWE matches. I don't buy WWE PPV's, so why the fuck would I buy this one?

How the PPV actually turns out depends on who wins out between Kevin Dunn and Paul Heyman. According to Meltzer, Dunn is making the same pitch that he did to kill the Invasion angle, that being that "These aren't our guys, so why should we make them look good ?"

 The only way Dunn's idea wins is if Vince truly wants ECW buried. If he ever hopes to do another PPV or keep the brand alive, he needs "ECW" to go over big initially.

My problem with the build up is that NO MATCHES have been announced yet. Heck, we don't even officially know ANY of the wrestlers that will actually be appearing yet. I hope they correct that very quickly.

Um, because they can make MONEY off of them?

I don't actually think SMDN will really send any guys to the ECW PPV. Why would Teddy Long care? I'm figuring Angle will get traded to Raw anyway so he can just be part of that group.

Look, this whole group is going to just be a bunch of jobbers that is led by Bischoff and maybe Angle. In other words no one's heat will be destroyed that actually MATTERS. Hell, Angle has been a would be rapist lately, I doubt getting his ass kicked by the whole ECW crew would kill him.

I think that when Bischoff calls out his 'Raw army', they'll hang him out to dry and let some ECW guys kick the shit out of him. Vince hasn't embarrassed Eric for a while now, and it's about time for his semi-annual humiliation.
