Guest SP-1 Report post Posted June 2, 2005 Why isn't the bible there? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Because when properly studied the Bible isn't harmful. Those books are the same way, though. In the wrong hands, any idea can be twisted into something either terrible, or more terrible. Intelligence is required when reading and studying.

Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2005 (edited) #10 made me laugh. On the other hand, check the links at the original page and read their Amazon URLs. If you decide to by Mein Kampf (or, for that matter, these other books you shouldn't even so much as come into contact with), then the conservative group gets a cut. Lastly, the Communist Manifesto is listed as almost TWICE as evil as Hitler (score of 74 to 41.) I refuse to believe that. St. Gabe 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2005 This list is pathetic. It's typical of conservative oppresion of information. It makes me sick that this is even getting press it's like a Liberal condemning Adam Smith's work, which wouldn't happen, at least not directly.

There's going to be someone who sees this list and goes, "They hate it? Damn, it MUST be good!" I don't agree with the whole list ("Democracy and Education"? Eh, not that harmful) but the application of some of these books ("Mein Kampf", "The Communist Manifesto") did have dramatic, long lasting, and oftentimes fatal results. Guest gameplayer Report post Posted June 2, 2005 Dr Timothy Leary once said,"There are some books that should not allow themselves to be read", I believe that, as Protocols of The Learned Elders Of Zion being one of those books. It has absolutely no creative value or redemption, and exposing the mind to such hate is nothing but damaging. There are numerous books on the dark arts such as this, which, reguardless if you believe their words or not, they plant the equivalent of a psychic germ deep within your neurological recesses that will grow and affect you in ways you will not be able to comprehend. Certainly it is a minute percentage, but some books can be very dangerous.
CheesalaIsGood 0 Report post Posted June 2, 2005 I guess books can be dangerous in the spread of IDEAS. Depends on what you are threatend by. The comment about the bible is a good one considering it history but the real danger there has always been its readership.

Guest Ding Chavez Report post Posted June 2, 2005 7.) Betty Friedan-"The Feminine Mystique" 4.) Alfred Kinsey-"The Kinsey Report" <{POST_SNAPBACK}> WTF is wrong with a study on women and their happiness, and a thorough, scientifically done approach to one of the most basic facets of life? This really does fit the stereotype of conservatives being grunting, knuckle-dragging cavemen.

"Books on the dark arts"? Dude, I've read two supposed versions of the Necronominicon, dozens of books on magick, and the complete works of Anton Lavey, and there's really not anything that dangerous within any of them. Guest DonVito Report post Posted June 2, 2005 (edited) They wouldn't put the bible on this list because they wouldn't want to group it with all of the other philosophical books they had on the list. An honorable mention was, Introduction to Psychoanalysis by Sigmund Freud Psychology is sooo dangerous. I find it funny also that they basically shit all over FDR in the summary for 10. General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money by Keynes. The conservatives just hate the expansion of the government economically. How that makes this a top 10 most harmful book I'll never know. The most harmful book I've seen is the Book of Thoth and the Book of Lies by Crowley. The rampant nonsense is just too much to handle. This list is a joke for the most part.
