iliketurtles 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2005 Benoit's DVD is a must. The story itself is just as good as the matches. Rise and Fall of ECW, Wrestlemania 17 and 20, Ric Flair's...all must have. Summerslam 2002 was pretty good as well. From there it's all about what you like and prefer. Most of the Wrestlemanias are worth having on DVD, and particular events you have a enjoyment for. Not everyone would say Wrestlemania 19 is worth having, but I fucking love that show and is one of my favorite DVDs I own. Some people will probably say Vengeance 2003, and while it was a solid show and probably worth having on DVD (I don't), but I guess for me it never stood up well overtime. If you have a hard on for Hulk Hogan, go buy his DVD. It's really good, but I don't watch it much just because it's hard to sit and watch total non-stop Hogan. Again, that's just preference. A lot of DVDs I have I bought cheap off EBay, or on sale. If you can pay between 10-15 bucks for any WWE DVD of a regular PPV that you moderately enjoy brand new, buy it. I would never pay 24.95 for any DVD, let alone an average show. A couple days ago I bought Royal Rumble and Backlash 2004 for like 30 bucks overall. I bought Backlash 2005 for 13 bucks. pochorenella 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2005 There are quite a few releases that I think are must-buy: From The Vault: Shawn Michaels. No main feature, just full of matches but pretty much his best work like WMX and HIAC. Essential. Hard Knocks: Chris Benoit. A very good main feature and terrific matches all around, even japanese stuff. Ultimate Ric Flair Collection. If you like Flair and mostly 80s stuff then this is for you. Almost nothing boring on the whole set. Rise and Fall of ECW. Terrific overview of the promotion and pretty good matches, too. I'd also recommend to a lesser extent the Monday Night Wars (somewhat biased account but good extras), Bloodbath: Greatest Cage Matches, and Cheating Death, Stealing Life: Eddie Guerrero (excellent main feature but a little lacking in the matches.) For WWE/F PPVs there are a few, too: WMX-7, WMXX, WM21, SSlam 2001, 2002, Rumble 2000, 2001, 2004. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

res37618 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2005 I'm a completist, so I've got all the WWE(F) DVD's except for the Diva stuff (and I may even collect those over time) . . . but, if I had to list 5 of the WWE DVD's that would be essential to a collection, it would be: Wrestlemania XX The Ultimate Ric Flair Collection Bloodbath: Wrestling's Greatest Steel Cage Matches SummerSlam 2002 (to this day, I feel it's the best SummerSlam ever, at least work-rate wise) The Rise and Fall of ECW I think these all epitomize what a WWE DVD has been all about over the last couple of years, both from a "feature/documentary" perspective, and from a "great PPV/great workrate" angle. But honestly, if I sat here and thought for another half-hour, I could come up with valid arguments for at least ten more DVD's to be essentials. You can complain all you want about the current TV product, but the DVD crew has been hot, producing some top-notch stuff, and there's so much more left to come, I hope. I'd say the Hardy Boyz' Leap of Faith DVD is Essential, considering they (negatively, if could be argued) influenced wrestling so much in 1999 and 2000. Maybe an extra half a star because the crowd was at least 30% Jericho fans, if not more. Actually, that makes the finish more depressing. Fuck that half a star. Non-stop action from both, and though Jericho lost, him and HBK still arguably had the best match on the card. And BTW, for the record HBK has lost so many matches on PPV since he has come back its not even funny. The guy has to win sometimes. Anyway, back to DVD discussion........ DVD (which is also pretty good IMO) Rock vs Angle is on The Rock: Just Bring It DVD (also terrific, specially the collector's Edition with an extra disc of promos and the Vengeance 3-way) But you guys are right, NWO2001 is an awesome show. I didnt find any of the matches to be outright boring and hhh not losing is actually the only thing that bothers me, and this is coming from an obvious Jericho mark. Shawn won, but he didnt go over big or anything it comes across as a fluke roll up to me. NWO 01 is an awesome show that gets not enough mention IMO. Guest Ransome Report post Posted June 18, 2005 The only two DVDs I see as essential for any smark is the Chris Benoit DVD and the Eddie Guerrero DVD. They both come with several excellent matches, a great main feature and a lot of variety. The fact that the producers went out of their way to include matches from NJPW, AAA, and fan-cam makes these the two best DVDs they've ever done, as far as I'm concerned. I like the Ric Flair DVD as well, it contains all the obvious matches, but even at three-discs, there's some pretty notable omissions. Also, the Rise and Fall of ECW's feature is worth the purchase alone. Personally, I wouldn't recommend buying any non-Wrestlemania pay-per-view DVD. Worth a rental, sure, but most don't really have the special features to justify forking over $20+ to pay for it as far as I can see, unless you *really* like every match on the card.
