Now that I've got some more free time on my hands, it's time for this years fighting game character tournament. Same as every year you put down 3 characters that you want to be in the tourney and I'll have them all in for next week. Just some guidelines:

-Don't waste your nomination for obvious characters since they will already be in there.

-The character must be of fighting game origin. The only exceptions to this are some of the snk characters since they didn't really star in many games before kof. So basically no nominations for wolverine, megaman, Cloud and the like.

Previous winners:

Ryu

Ken Masters

Iori Yagami

and also suggest Ibuki from SF3, though she won't make it past the first round.

I don't think you need to second any votes. I'd give Ibuki one, though. Cute kunoichis =

:headbang:

My nominations:

Geese Howard - Might be an obvious choice, but sometimes bosses are forgotten. Awesome character design, very menacing presence, awesome moves (and often cheap as hell), and one of the greatest stage themes in a fighting game ever.

Lord Raptor/Zabel - if Darkstalkers had sucked, it's character designs would still be worth mentioning. First time I played the arcade game, I was drawn to this crazy-looking mofo. A heavy-metal shredding zombie mofo who can stab you with his own ribs, kick your ass and dance on your body, turn his limbs into chainsaw blades, and roll you up into a ball and slam dunk you. (Plus he's representing the Aussies, UYI.)

My nominations:

Earthworm Jim (just about the only reason anyone would play Clayfighter 64. And since it's for the character, not the game, he squeezes by on a technicality)

Man, I forgot Earthworm Jim was in that game! That was a game that kinda sucked, but it was still decent enough as a time waster.

I don't play many fighting games so no nominations :(

Didn't see that "fighting game origin" provision. In that case, instead of EWJ may I nominate Mike Haggar? Beat 'em ups are close to fighting games, and I seem to recall Guy in one of the previous ones. Plus he's in the Slam Master games, which were fighters of sorts and take place chronologically before FF.

It's funny how he's the mayor of the town and he just walks around and beats people up. He has the nice pants and that weird belt across his chest. I've always wondered what was up with that.

That's deep. I hope that replaces 'in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king' in our lexicon.

That's 80's Beat 'Em Rule #45, with the provision that sometimes you might run across an enemy with a dinky pistol, in which case the boss will have a really friggin' huge gun.

Punisher sort of threw that one for a loop. A ton of enemies had guns, flamethrowers, etc, and you blew them away. Then the Kingpin comes along and kicks your ass with cigar smoke rings and bitchslaps.

Zangief

I'm making it my mission to get Zangief way up there this year. I can't be the only guy who loves him.

If you vote Hugo, I'll vote Zangief.

Aside from those two, Mr. Karate. Massive noses are teh best.

See... I was going to nominate him, but I didn't think Final Fight would count.

The genres are closely related, FFi is from the creator of SF2, and originally FFi was going to be titled "Street Fighter II," so I think it should count.
