Dark Age 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2005 For too long have the B-shows been ignored. So, we shall discuss them. Best matches of 05? Best matches in their history? Wrestlers who have surprised you? Guys who have "let it all out" on Heat and/or Velocity?!? Anyway, everyone should see the Doug Basham/Mark Jindrak match this year. Damn that's hot shit. It's not even 5 minutes long, but they just totally own the joint. Doug brings the NASTY KNEE KILLING BODYSLAMS INTO THE RING ROPES~! and Jindrak sells like he's been shot in said knee. Jindrak's all kinds of awesome with the fake in to the DREADED LEFT HOOK which kills Basham dead. Basham is good, all should know, but Jindrak can really shock. He, like, can be pretty good. I just don't understand. We all know about the London/Akio series. That's good stuff. Track it down if you haven't. Haven't watched enough Heat this year but, by all accounts, Val Venis has been owning it. Need to see his match vs. Punk. There was a Tajiri/Richards match on international Heat at the start of the year which was fun. It was 6 or 7 minutes long, but it seemed like they were going long. Val's dragged some very watchable stuff out of Vis and Tomko. Trish/Victoria had a way fun match at the start of the year, with some stuff you don't normally see out of them. I have MUCH love for Spanky/Noble sometime in 03. I seem to recall it being a MOTYC, but maybe not. Haven't seen it since it aired. Spanky was awesome on Velocity, and his awesomeness passed on to some awesome London Velocity matches. Orton's matches with Val last year are on a different fucking planet to anything Trips has done with Randy. Benoit is the only one to take Orton to anything as good. Book/Matt last year was very nice. The Dudz/Storm, Venis tag last year was great. It's on the XX DVD, so watch it. I seem to remember Haas/Eddie being boss, but I need to WATCH AGAIN!!! It's cool when a big name comes on the B-show, like when Benoit was on Heat last year, dragging guys like Tomko to pretty good matches. Also Chuck, but I like Chuck, so he doesn't count. I once enjoyed a Triple H/Maven match on Heat. It was a remarkable event. D-Lo was the man. We should compile some sort of list, with all the great Velocity/Heat matches. I'll make a DVD of it, and people can feast on marvelous HEAT! Maybe not, but I'll do it for myself anyway. Also, maybe some sort of "matches under 5 minutes that rule" list, like at that other place, but we'll limit it to Heat/Velocity. Or squashes. Squashes rule, when you think about it. Like, when Regal beat the crap out of that guy on Heat. You know. Oh, WGTT used to own on Velocity. I'll get some matches that I recall being good later. This thread can be used for other purposes regarding Heat and Velocity, but my main aim was to get people to bring up some matches that I may have forgotten about. 2002, for example, is a blank. And 03 to an extent. That is all.
Brocklock 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2005 Noble/Rey from the 5/1/04 Velocity was great. The two London/Noble matches were good too, the first one specifically. I remember Tajiri/Kidman on the very first Velocity being good and Angle had a couple of good matches with Hardcore Holly on Velocity. RVD and Lance Storm had a good match on the 3/3/02 Heat. I remember digging D'lo vs Eddie on the 4/28/02 Heat.
Dark Age 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2005 Yes, Noble/Rey and Noble/London was the shit. I'm not too fond of the second Noble/London match. It is pretty good and all, but it's just kinda my cock is tiny. Rey had some sweet matches with, I think, Kanyon and Nunzio on Velocity. They're worth checking out. And the 6 man with Rey, Kidman and Ultimo vs. FBI from the same time is good too.
Guest Jimmy Report post Posted July 3, 2005 they always put some really good wrestlers on here - the mind boggles?!?! put them on the bigger ones some of these matches are better then raw and smackdown ones
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2005 Noble/Rey from the 5/1/04 Velocity was great. The two London/Noble matches were good too, These are the ones I usually pimp. A favorite moment of mine happened in an FBI match. Palumbo/Stamboli vs. 2 indy jobbers. The FBI get the legal jobber in their corner, and the legal FBI throws a punch, tags out, the new legal guy steps around the ringpost to the right side of the corner, comes in, throws 1 punch, then immediatley tags out. The new legal FBI again steps around the ringpost to the right side of the corner, comes in, & throws 1 punch, & tags out, repeating the sequence again. I think they went through at least 4 or 5 rotations in the sequence.
SamoaRowe 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2005 The London/Akio series from earlier this year was tremendous and fun to watch. A few years ago, Triple H had a really good match with Perry Saturn on heat.
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2005 The London/Akio series from earlier this year was tremendous and fun to watch. A few years ago, Triple H had a really good match with Perry Saturn on heat. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That was just post No Mercy so It was Octoberish 2000 and yea it was a good match in a rare Heat appearance by HHH in the post Smackdown world when Heat became just a lame c show. I have the 5-1-04 episdoe of velocity on tape and the rey/noble match was indded very cool IIRC
Guest jm29195 Report post Posted July 3, 2005 HHH/Saturn from September 00 was pretty good Lynn/RVD July 01 on Heat Awesome/Hardcore Holly Kaientai/Brothers of Destruction.....
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2005 aha also have RVD-Lynn taped.
tekcop 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2005 I still haven't seen Basham/Jindrak. I need that match so much. As for stuff I have seen. The Jordan/Kanyon series was pretty damned good. As was Jordan/Jindrak. Another one of those shockingly good Jindrak matches. I also remember enjoying Venis/Cade quite a bit but I don't really remember anything about it. Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2005 Randy Orton had a shockingly decent-good match against Tyson Tomko on Heat late last year. I have it taped somewhere.
Dark Age 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2005 I know the match you're talking about, but I can't really remember it. However, theor match in Japan was really solid, and got shit on for no real reason at all. Good, focused offense from Tomko and some darn good selling from Orton, plus a nice finish that made sense. Enjoyable match. I enjoyed the Kanyon/OJ stuff. Someone else was pimping OJ/Jindrak recently, so I need to see that. The Cade/Venis stuff was cool. I think they had a match on international Heat that very few saw, so you would probably enjoy that tekcop. Didn't they clip the hell out of RVD/Lynn? Oh, and I think I have the Basham/Jindrak match here, so I'll have a look.
The C Man 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2005 I remember Triple H made Hardcore Holly look like a star once on Heat. 2000 I think it was.
tekcop 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2005 Holly and Gunn were a very nice little team before they fired Holly. Most of their good matches happened on Velocity. Nunzio/London was fun both times. Especially the one with Nunzio doing all the arm work. One-armed suplexes are cool. Thinking of arm work made me remember another really good match. Doug Basham/London. The finish was spectacular. Guest Fook_Theta Report post Posted July 3, 2005 Speaking of Heat, Legion of Doom vs IRS and Dibiase(Money INC) is on right now from Summerslam '92. Dibiase fucking rules. Someone needs to steal the outfit he has on.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted July 3, 2005 Whoa, I feel like I went back in time. It's hot outside, it's Sunday, an old SummerSlam PPV match is on TV. That was great.
Guest Ransome Report post Posted July 4, 2005 I remember a great 2001 Metal match that was certainly better than any other matches WWF pulled out that week: Perry Saturn vs Paul London. First time I'd ever seen London, amd I was impressed.
Kardo 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2005 I remember when I saw Essa Rios vs. K-Kwik on Metal. I was like, why aren't these guys feuding over a title.
tekcop 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2005 Doug Basham Vs. Mark Jindrak That SHOULD work. I encourage everyone to check it out. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I love you, man. That match was pretty damned good and lived up to the hype. I loved the Randy Savage-style rope-to-throat spot and it becoming the central point of the rest of the match. Jindrak's selling striking was awesome. I don't think I've seen anything like that in a WWE match for quite a while. The knockout shot finish was great, too. LoRisk 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2005 Crash Holly vs. Nunzio...I wanna say it was the 01/11/03 Velocity. I completely marked out for the psychology they did with Nunzio working over Crash's arm. Randy Orton had some good matches on Velocity with Shannon Moore and Billy Kidman right before he jumped to Raw at the end of 2002. All of Spanky's matches on Velocity when he wrestled under a mask...Funaki, Moore, and Palumbo were his opponents, I believe.
Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2005 Doug Basham Vs. Mark Jindrak That SHOULD work. I encourage everyone to check it out. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That was actually pretty good. The fans popped big when Jindrak won.
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2005 I have very fond memories of Akio's debut WWE match (still wrestling as Jimmy Yang) on Sunday Night Heat against Tommy Dreamer. The match was only about 5 minutes long, but they really tore the house down. The finish was Akio taking a DDT which he sold by standing on his head for about 5 seconds. GREAT match. tekcop 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2005 I never saw that match, but I do remember reading the spoilers and wanting to watch it. Which reminds me; Dreamer vs. Matt Hardy with the top-turnbuckle Twist of Fate was damned fine, too.
natey2k4 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2005 I recall a VERY good Funaki/Chavo Guerrero match sometime on Velocity. Can't remember when from though.

Lord of The Curry 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2005 Rudo hasn't gotten to this yet so I'll go out and pimp some Saturn/Funaki Jakked/Metal matches as being the shit. American Dragon and Noble did some good shit back in the day.
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2005 I was at a Raw/Jakked taping in Greenville, SC in January 2002. The main event of Jakked was Hurricane vs a very young (with hardly any muscle-tone) AJ Styles. AJ sold the Hurricane's offense like it was death itself, and even got in a good bit of his own offense. The finish was also pretty intense because I though I was about to see one of the old WCW cruiserweights pick up a win over the Hurricane. Hurricane went for his (current, at the time) finisher, The Eye of the Hurricane, which AJ countered then drilled him with a sweet superkick that would make HBK blush. AJ goes up top and attempts one of the best Shooting Star Presses I have seen, even to this day, but misses. Hurricane seemingly says fuck this, and nails the Vertebreaker for the pin. This match is a hair over 5 minutes long and is nothing short of fantastic. It is floating around all over the torrent and file sharing networks. I highly recommend tracking it down. tekcop 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2005 I remember downloading that match quite a while ago. It was alright but I don't think I'd call it anything great.

And that Basham/Jindrak match was surprisingly good. Bodyslamming a guy's legs onto the ropes is a new one to me.
