World Wrestling Entertainment has signed former WCW Hardcore champion Big Vito to a deal and he'll be debuting this Monday at the Smackdown house show in Portland, Maine. The belief is that Vito will be put with Nunzio as a tag team.

Vito, who worked enhancement for WWF when he was first breaking in under his original ring name Skull Von Krush, had a brief run in Extreme Championship Wrestling as one of the Baldies. He was brought into WCW as one of the Mamalukes by longtime friend Vince Russo. He also had a brief run in TNA, feuding with Irish Pat Kenney.

Vito, a Staten Island, New York native, was originally trained by Johnny Rodz.

Waste of time. Give me the Cruiserweight division over the tag any day.

Maybe this will lead to the tag team I saw in a Smackdown dark match of Vito and Nunzio.

Course, that also leads me to wonder...where's Kazarian (one of the other two in that dark tag team match)?

Kazarian is in OVW right now. He hasn't appeared on TV except for a match against Kid Kash.

Meh. He ain't that great. Rather average, I think, but he at least won't embarass himself. I think there are just better choices for this potential role out there through re-signing Stambolli (though he seems to be doing good for himself in Japan) and Tony Mamaluke.

Vito is solid. I'm for this.

Also, while I love the cruiserweight work, since WWE will NEVER know how to properly promote smaller guys, I figure they can at least attempt to bring back good tag team work with some cruisers peppered in.

Yeah, I'd rather have Stamboli or Palumbo back. Stamboli/Nunzio were starting to get over when Johnny was let go.

The WWE tag division/formula are just so bland that I can't get excited about this. I'm not sure when, if ever, that will change.

This is great news, I love Big Vito. Now bring Johnny back Vince, please!

I know this doesn't say anything goo for Vito, but one of the things I remember him for in WCW was a botched spot. He had someone, I forget who, and was trying to DDT him through a table (both he and the other guy were standing on it), and when he started the move on the table, the legs on the table just went out. He looked so pissed off, then went ahead and did the DDT anyway. :)

I want this in WWE.

Well shit, they need to hire back Johnny Stamboli!

*wants to see a Mamalukes reunion

Big Vito and Nunzio would be a cool team, fuck Palumbo and Stamboli's no-talented asses.

Palumbo needs to come back more than O'Haire. The right hand was over big-time. Way back when, they had a Smackdown only PPV in the UK and I swear Palumbo was a top 5 face for some reason.

I still remember him wrestling the opening of the six man tag at Judgement Day '03 with a cigar in his mouth. That alone makes Palumbo > O'Haire

For a second, I misread Big Vito as Big Sal and was about to break my monitor.

Signing Big Vito isn't exactly lighting my world on fire, but he's an acceptable pickup.

Vito's fine and teaming him with Numzio should make for a decent tag team, and god knows the WWE needs more actual teams, but i don't really expect much to come out of this. They already had this team with Nunzio and Stamboli/Palumbo, and adding Vito will be marginally better at best so i wonder what exactly will be different this time. Probably nothing, and we'll be reading a WWE Releases Big Vito topic some time in the not-that-distant future.

That must have been in the legendary Rev D-Von/Ron Simmons vs Big Valbowski/Gay Chuck match from Rebellion 02- Valbowski was a last second replacement for Billy Gunn who seperated his shoulder earlier in the week.....

How about signing Reno of WCW sorta fame (member of the natural born thrillers) remember he was vitos storyline brother.

this all reminds me of a nitro in early 2000 where the mamalukes had to attend a relatives wedding, and the reception was apparantly taking place backstage at the wrestling arena. I had an online column at the time and mentioned "why were they holding a reception at a sports arena?"
