SuperJerk Posted July 24, 2005 Author Report Posted July 24, 2005 I saw a matinee yesterday for $3.50 (Cheapest movie ticket I've bought in years). It was well worth the money. An entertaining little flick, I had my doubts but I enjoyed it. I thought Tim Burton was going to do another shitty remake but he proved me wrong thankfully. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Was it worth $3.50? You bet!
CBright7831 Posted July 24, 2005 Report Posted July 24, 2005 Looks like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory may stay in the number one spot this week. The Island only made five million on Friday.
Guest fanofcoils Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 Bump. Does anyone have any thoughts on my comments?
Cheech Tremendous Posted July 25, 2005 Report Posted July 25, 2005 I thought it was a good movie, but utterly forgettable. There's no way that it becomes the classic that Wonka is. That said, the general consensus amongst people I know is that they HATED the movie. Seriously, I have not heard a positive review from any of my friends or co-workers. I don't if anyone else is hearing the same, but I thought it was interesting,
SuperJerk Posted July 25, 2005 Author Report Posted July 25, 2005 We saw Charlie and Batman at a drive-in double feature. Even my wife, an elementary school teacher, preferred Batman.
Guest El Satanico Posted July 26, 2005 Report Posted July 26, 2005 Liking Batman Begins more doesn't really prove anything. It would be different if she liked a shitty movie more, but she liked what most are calling the best movie this Summer.
LaParkaYourCar Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 Okay so when are they ever going to make a movie of "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator"? They've made Charlie and the Chocolate Factory twice now.
bob_barron Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 Hopefully never. That book is just awful.
cabbageboy Posted July 30, 2005 Report Posted July 30, 2005 I enjoyed Charlie quite a bit, not sure what I thought of Depp's bizarre performance in it though. I assume Y2Jerk meant that Charlie was something his wife would be more inclined to like than Batman Begins. And if Begins is the best movie of the summer this summer is a bit...underwhelming. I liked it well enough but didn't find it jaw dropping or anything.
spiny norman Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 And if Begins is the best movie of the summer this summer is a bit...underwhelming.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> The year thus far has been pretty shithouse.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted July 31, 2005 Report Posted July 31, 2005 I watched this for free the other day and was thoroughly satisfied. I like the fact that they updated the kids a little bit. The parodies of an overachiever and beastly child of technology were very entertaining, I thought. The fuckin' squirrells were fantastic.
DCMaximo Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 Dahl didn't write the Phantom Tollbooth, and no, there is no BFG movie. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm afraid there is, an animated version from 1989, with David Jason doing the voice of the BFG. It's IMDB listing
bob_barron Posted August 15, 2005 Report Posted August 15, 2005 Okay- a real movie, not a straight to video cartoon.
Lil' Bitch Posted November 18, 2005 Report Posted November 18, 2005 Everything in this room is eatable. Even I'm eatable. But that, my dear children, is called cannibalism, and is frowned upon in most societies. That was one of the best parts of the movie.
The Czech Republic Posted November 18, 2005 Report Posted November 18, 2005 No, that movie wasn't very good.
Nighthawk Posted November 19, 2005 Report Posted November 19, 2005 Yeah, I saw this movie on dvd recently and was fairly dissapointed. I got more Pee Wee Herman than Michael Jackson out of Depp's performance.
