I can't say I like the Gerut/DuBois trade for the Cubs.  DuBois can not field at all, but he is a legitimate power threat.  Gerut is just a league average corner outfielder.

Hey is Tom Gordon hurt? otherwise I dont understand why Torre sent Wayne Franklin (who?) out for the 8th.....UNLESS he was planning on using Gordon in the 9th cuz Rivera had saved three straight games.

 

 

 

Eh what can you do? That's the worst kind of loss though , cuz Moose gave 6 solid innings.

Mets cruise to a fairly easy 7-3 victory. Pitching and fielding were both solid, and the hitting was much better than usual; Piazza's taken to the six spot very well so far.

Value Over Replacement Player. The number of runs contributed beyond what a replacement-level player at the same position would contribute if given the same percentage of team plate appearances. VORP scores do not consider the quality of a player's defense.

 

My understanding of the stat is this - there are an unlimited number of interchangeable players available who offer essentially equal offensive skills. The VORP measures how much more an individual player contributes over one of these numerous no-name players. Hence, Derrick Lee has added more runs to his team than any other player in the league this year.

How do you figure that? He has the lowest number out of all 6 of those names. Damon is the most productive, that is, if 23 is still a higher number than 6.
