EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2005 Hey Al. Whatever happend with that All-Time league you where going to simulate? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I ran into a brick wall mentally simulating the league. I will try to run the conclusion of the season in the very near future.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2005 I can't say I like the Gerut/DuBois trade for the Cubs. DuBois can not field at all, but he is a legitimate power threat. Gerut is just a league average corner outfielder. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> B-b-b-but he's from Elmhurst! Yeah I think this trade blows too
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2005 Hey is Tom Gordon hurt? otherwise I dont understand why Torre sent Wayne Franklin (who?) out for the 8th.....UNLESS he was planning on using Gordon in the 9th cuz Rivera had saved three straight games. Eh what can you do? That's the worst kind of loss though , cuz Moose gave 6 solid innings. How bizzare for a pitcher's duel to break out a day after a slugfest. I guess they scored themselves out last night I have a feeling that there is going to be a lot of jockeying for position for first in the coming weeks. Yea the Os are still there too and I didnt forget them. Yanks need to come back and take the game tommorrow to take the series. ESPN is going to show the game tomorrow so at least I'll get to see it. How much did you pay for the extra innings package dude? cuz here Adelphia is still charging the same price as the start of the season. Maybe next year I'll finally order it as I have gone 1 and a half seasons without getting it. I sure hope Cashman has some secret deals planned.

Guest Fishyswa Report post Posted July 20, 2005 I wasn't too disappointed with the loss aside from how close it was. I mean what did it come down to really, them making a few really good defensive plays and one of our pitchers making A bad pitch. If we're gonna lose, I'd rather it be like that. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2005 Look for a dude in a blue Cubs throwback jersey in the rightfield stands tonight at the Reds/Cubs game. That'll be me. Gonna catch the last two games of the series; hopefully the keep up what they've been doing the last two nights.

The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2005 I'm gonna shield my eyes from Baseball Tonight and Sportscenter because he might win and then every fucking person will say "a big win for Aaron Small" and think he's hot shit for coming up with such a witty phrase. devo 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2005 Mets cruise to a fairly easy 7-3 victory. Pitching and fielding were both solid, and the hitting was much better than usual; Piazza's taken to the six spot very well so far. Go Rockies!
Zetterberg is God 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2005 Damn it. Another Nationals loss. Still in first but they really need to pull their shit together.
KingPK 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2005 Man, I should steal HTQ's idea and make a blog post of all the idiotic things I read on the Yankee and Red Sox boards on ESPN.com. Tino Martinez hits two home runs and people think he's "back" and that Bubba freakin' Crosby should take over for Bernie in center. Meanwhile, the Sox board has turned into "Idiotic Trade Proposal/Rumor Central". I think we've found the sports version of the GameFAQ forums.
Mik 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2005 Baseball Prospectus publishes its VORP rankings (Value Over Replacement Player) here: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statisti...index.php?cid=1 VORP measures the number of runs contributed beyond what a replacement-level player at the same position would contribute if given the same percentage of team plate appearances. VORP scores do not consider the quality of a player's defense -- so this list is based on offense only. Here are the starting lineups, with the player's overal VORP MLB ranking in parentheses: AL: C Jason Varitek-BOS (35) 1B Mark Teixeira-TEX (31) 2B Brian Roberts-BAL (3) SS Miguel Tejada-BAL (4) 3B Alex Rodriguez-NYY (5) OF Gary Sheffield-NYY (9) OF Hideki Matsui-NYY (18) OF Johnny Damon-BOS (23) DH David Ortiz-BOS (7) NL C Paul Lo Duca-FLA (86) 1B Derrek Lee-CHC (1) 2B Chase Utley-PHI (20) SS Felipe Lopez-CIN (22) 3B Morgan Ensberg-HOU (11) OF Miguel Cabrera-FLA (6) OF Bobby Abreu-PHI (10) OF Jason Bay-PIT (13) DH Albert Pujols-STL (2) The AL starting lineup is pretty close to the actual lineup. The NL lineup is pretty different. My favorite part, of course, is Miguel Cabrera being ranked the most productive outfielder in all of baseball. Thanks Baseball Prospectus. Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2005 I never understood VORP. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> From Baseball Propsecus: VORP Value Over Replacement Player. The number of runs contributed beyond what a replacement-level player at the same position would contribute if given the same percentage of team plate appearances. VORP scores do not consider the quality of a player's defense. My understanding of the stat is this - there are an unlimited number of interchangeable players available who offer essentially equal offensive skills. The VORP measures how much more an individual player contributes over one of these numerous no-name players. Hence, Derrick Lee has added more runs to his team than any other player in the league this year. Hope that satisfies.
Mik 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2005 Wonder what this is all about? "I'm not happy for three years. After the season, I'm going to tell you" why, said Hernandez, 12-4 with a 3.44 ERA and the unquestioned staff ace. "It's 99.9 percent I'm not going to pitch no more" this season, he said. "I'm done, I think, so let's see what happens. ... I'll go to sleep and I'm going to make a decision tonight." His right knee has been a nagging problem all year, and it was drained May 16. But Hernandez said it's not bothering him enough to affect his pitching -- nor was he told to have the knee worked on. "It's not the doctors. It's me. I'm the doctor. I don't need it, but I'm going to" have an operation, he said. Pressed to explain why, Hernandez said: "I'm tired of something. ... I'll tell you when the season's over. I'm mad." Trouble a-brewin' in Washington.
