The C Man 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2005 From tnawrestling.com: At Sunday's "No Surrender" Pay-Per-View, "The Original Playa From The Himalaya" Sonjay Dutt won the Super X Qualifying match to earn the final slot in the upcoming tournament. TNAwrestling.com has received the final list of competitors for the Super X Cup Tournament, with the finals set to take place at August 14's "Sacrifice" Pay-Per-View! The following eight X Division Stars will compete to not only win the Super X Cup trophy, but earn a shot at Christopher Daniels' X Division Championship! AJ Styles Alex Shelley Chris Sabin Petey Williams Samoa Joe Shane Shocker Sonjay Dutt -- That list leaves me pretty underwhelmed, especially compared to the first Super X Cup. This time they're all TNA wrestlers as opposed to last time when they brought in outsiders like Teddy Hart and NOSAWA. By going down that route there's also no chance of seeing anything new - everyone in TNA has seen these guys wrestle, they know most of their spots - and I think it lacks the surprise factor of the first one when someone like Hart would come in and hit a spot that you didn't know was about to happen
Placebo Effect 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2005 Bringing in outsiders doesn't make sense for a company attempting to be national. Marks don't care about guys who aren't permanent workers. I'm sure these guys will bust out plenty of great matches.
HollywoodSpikeJenkins 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2005 I predict Shane, Shelly, Shocker, and Dutt all job in the first round. Joe and AJ go over Sabin and Petey and Joe over AJ in the Finals.
Astro101 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2005 Right now TNA is gonna cater to the internet fans with no television and all. I would've liked some international flavor, but this is fine by me. Can't wait for it to start.

Whats the point of fucking over one of your own, just to get an extremely short-term pop. And then after that, what have you got? Your left with a person on your roster who looks weak. I like the line-up. AJ, Joe and Petey have been getting decent pushes (and yes, they made Petey look strong versus Daniels). Sabin and Michael Shane are there or thereabouts when it comes to the X Division. Sonjay Dutt is good for a spot fest, and both Shocker and Shelly can go. Im a bit surprised that Lynn didnt lean either way at No Surrender, and that either him or Sean are not in this tourney.
Michrome 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2005 Alright, picks: Joe over Sonjay AJ over Shelley Petey over Shocker Sabin over Shane Joe over Sabin AJ over Petey Joe over AJ Joe/AJ in the finals on PPV could be amazing. As far as outside talent, I think this list is fine, but it wouldn't have hurt to replace guys like Shane and Sonjay with some outside talent, whether it be someone like Austin Aries or someone from overseas. RedJed 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2005 I like that lineup, makes sense to keep everyone from the company and not try to overstep themselves and sign up more names right now unless they were going to turn this into something like a 32 man tournament or something - which would actually have been a fun idea in theory, maybe next year. Looking forward to the brackets....its gotta be Samoa Joe winning this all, just gotta be. This is kind of how I would do it...alot of first round hot matches, thats for sure. Styles-Sabin Shocker-Dutt Shelley-Shane Joe-Williams From there, you do Styles-Shocker and Joe/Shelley/Shane (Shelley and Shane do some elaborate work to keep both of them in the running for the second round) and then of course AJ-Joe. The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2005 They should call this thing the Samoa Joe coming out party. I predict Joe beats Styles in the finals, Sabin in the semis and I don't know who in the opener. I'd like to see Petey vs. Styles be the other semi.
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2005 Oh...and about the list... The only guy on there that I'm kind of tired of seeing is Shane. Styles, Joe, Sabin and Petey are musts. Shelley hasn't gotten a chance to show much yet, and Dutt's been gone for so long that those two are fine. Someone has a hard on for Shocker...so he was obvious. Shane's just boring. Guest Coffey Report post Posted July 18, 2005 If the final three names from the original list weren't there, I think I'd care more. Only way it could be worse is if they slopped in Amazing Red. AJ Styles, Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, Petey Williams & Samoa Joe are all fine with me.
zyn081 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 Am I the only one here who things that Daniels is doing a good enough job as X Division Champion and shouldnt drop the belt to Joe within the next 2 months. Daniels should at least be X Div Champ till Bound for Glory IMHO.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted July 19, 2005 Gotta be honest: Don't see the appeal of Shocker. At all. He has yet to wow me. Everybody is at least decent, but Shocker is nothing special. Should be a good show, though.

I'd even go beyond Bound for Glory - Joe doesnt have to get the X division title. In due time it will turn him into an over babyface, or maybe already kind of has. When Daniels ultimately loses the belt, I agree it should be to Joe. And Daniels should go straight into the hunt for NWA WHC. No build-up necessary. The same should also apply to Joe when he loses the X Div title. This is the way your secondary title should be used. This is why Im going for an outside shot and Shelly will win the tourney for the simple reason that Daniels has beaten AJ, Sabin, Shane, Shocker and Petey. Id leave Joe for now and that only leave Dutt (apart from Shelly). Who will Daniels face at No Surrender? Shark Boy? Id have the semis and the final on the No Surrender card. That 3 matches. No need for Daniels to work the show. He can be given the night off and do commentary for the 3 matches.
RedJed 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 They're trying to find an international star to work Daniels at the next ppv. So far Liger and Ultimo Dragon deals fell through or couldnt be worked out apparently due to schedule conflicts.
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 Gotta be honest: Don't see the appeal of Shocker. At all. He has yet to wow me. Everybody is at least decent, but Shocker is nothing special. Should be a good show, though. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He's sort of out of his element in TNA and can't go balls to the wall like he could when he was working CMLL (now he's in AAA). I thought his work would in the X Division would be close to his Lucha work, but he has been somewhat of a disappointment. Another thing not helping him is he's a better heel than face and right now, he's a face. I know he's a world class in ring worker, but his work in TNA is much to be desired. I do think his work is more solid and less spotty than guys in the X Division like Dutt, Red, and Elix.

Why they dont try and get Tiger Mask IV (NJPW), Kaz Hayashi (AJPW)or Wataru Sakata (Zero-One) in is beyond me. Them, plus Jushin Thunder Liger (NOAH), would have been my Team Japan for the World X Cup. Ultimo Dragon or TAKA Michinoku could have been the Manager of the side, or even NWA legend Antonio Inoko. Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2005 I think Joe will go over Shocker in the first round, as they can hype it up that the newcomer beat the "established, international star". First Round: Joe over Shocker AJ over Shelley Sabin over Shane Williams over Dutt Second Round: AJ over Sabin Joe over Williams Finals: Joe over AJ

It's probably not a bad idea since, I agree, he's way better than this in Mexico - I just saw a match a few weeks ago with Dr. Wagner Jr in CMLL that was tremendous. And when you can work some serious magic with Vampiro, you're a pretty decent worker if you can carry him around.

But even if they dont, Daniels play it up saying that he has to wait another month before he gets a serious challange and thus is taking the night (Sacrifice) off. I think they should open the show with the semis (after having 1 quarter-final a week on iMPACT) and close it with the final. Or, the quaters in the 1st 2 weeks and then like 2 tag team matches in the next 2 weeks, but the wrestlers dont team with they are facing in the semis.
