Campaign 2008

Recommended Posts

Q: Are you offended by the phrase "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?

PALIN: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance.

Somebody might want to give her a history lesson

People don't vote for the veep though, so I don't think McCain will drop her. This is the problem with picking an unknown- no one knows any skeletons, so when they are all announced at once, it just makes her look bad.

Once she survives the next two weeks, I think she'll be fine. The Republicans won with Quayle, why not with this woman?

The thing is, Mccain is 72, has fought cancer, and spent five years in a POW camp (which has to take a decade off your life). Yeah, people don't vote for a veep, but one so obviously incompetent, and more likely to end up president than any other vp in recent memory, is going to put people off.

I read a piece by a conservative who despised Obama/Biden but said she couldn't in good conscience vote for that ticket knowing that woman was so close to the presidency and having no confidence in her abilities to deal with Russia, Iran, Iraq...etc.

I don't know why, but I think the phrases "GIT ER DONE!", "Not guilty your honor", "Career? The only career you'll be having is being in der cookin my dinner!" and "I didn't hit her, the bitch slipped and fell into my hand" are all in the future of this fine young man.

I'm close to feeling pity for McCain.

edited: Actually, while I'm on this theme:

I don't feel bad for him-I feel bad for this girl and her family. Her personal life is being shredded up, and instead of discussing the issues, we are talking about shit that should be kept out of the public eye. Then again, I do have a conscience. In short:

It's like porn for rednecks with mental issues, isn't it?

Not feeling a slight bit of pity for McCain.

Well, the campaign is playing nice. The media is free to tear them to shreds. Which they always do, anywhere. I mean, how much has been written about the House of Windsor, hm? It's really funny they're pulling this "respect our privacy on this matter" shit when this is the exact matter where they want to invade the privacy of women all across the country.

And of course, Republicans only mind when it's their own candidates. People on the missing green board were bitching about how the Times weren't investigating Edwards' affair, when he didn't do anything illegal.

McCain needs a diaper change as he just pulled out of an interview with Larry King because Campbell Brown slapped around that Tucker Bounds clown last night.

It wasn't enough that his goddamn surreal stupidity was making us feel dizzy, so he had to spin himself around on camera too. Thanks, Diddy!

Since the right has made it clear that for this election cycle, anything said by a minister at a church attended by one of the candidates must also be the viewpoint of said candidate, the following seems relevant:

But Pastor Kalnins has also preached that critics of President Bush will be banished to hell; questioned whether people who voted for Sen. John Kerry in 2004 would be accepted to heaven; charged that the 9/11 terrorist attacks and war in Iraq were part of a war "contending for your faith;" and said that Jesus "operated from that position of war mode."

It is impossible to determine how much Wasilla Assembly of God has shaped Palin's thinking. She was baptized there at the age of 12 and attended the church for most of her adult life. When Palin was inaugurated as governor, the founding pastor of the church delivered the invocation

She's almost certain to be dropped anytime in the next 72 hours. I wouldn't be shocked if they kill her convention speech to figure out what the fuck to do.

Expect her to be kicked and replaced with Joe Lieberman, who has nothing else to do since the Dems are going to pick up more seats and then ignore the fuck out of Lieberman for the next two years, as payback for his role as kingmaker for the past two years.

Lieberman is outta gas in the Senate, so he'll jump in and try to save this campaign. Jeezus lovers are going to hit the fucking fan.

Your mom discerns that very prominent feature of said picture.

Aides to Mr. McCain said they had a team on the ground in Alaska now to look more thoroughly into Ms. Palin’s background. A Republican with ties to the campaign said the team assigned to vet Ms. Palin in Alaska had not arrived there until Thursday, a day before Mr. McCain stunned the political world with his vice-presidential choice....

Up until midweek last week, some 48 to 72 hours before Mr. McCain introduced Ms. Palin at a Friday rally in Dayton, Ohio, Mr. McCain was still holding out the hope that he could name as his running mate a good friend, Senator Joseph I. Lieberman, independent of Connecticut, a Republican close to the campaign said. Mr. McCain had also been interested in another favorite, former Gov. Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania....

...Mr. McCain was getting advice that if he did not do something to shake up the race, his campaign would be stuck on a potentially losing trajectory.

With time running out — and as Mr. McCain discarded two safer choices, Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota and former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, as too predictable — he turned to Ms. Palin. He had his first face-to-face interview with her on Thursday and offered her the job moments later...

It all kind of makes sense now...sort of.

Wouldn't be a surprise at all if they bring in Joe Lieberman as damage control. He's been bailing McCain's ass out of jam after jam already, why stop now? I know he's technically a Democrat, but it might take one for the Republicans to win, and his party has pretty much done everything but call him the wrong kind of Jew.
