You know, it just goes to show you that these days you have to take all of these big time stats with a grain of salt....they're all inflated and I can't even respect the statistics as much anymore.

It's like, for the most part, everything after 1993 is straight up bullshit and inflated.

It's too bad he isn't in the NL, can you imagine all the ECW fans in Philly going to the game and chanting

YOU !@#$'ED UP

YOU !@#$'ED UP

YOU !@#$'ED UP

at him?

I would die a happy man if I saw that

Aparently, according to the NYTimes, the substance found was stanozolol (brand name Winstrol) which is what Olympic Athlete Ben Johnson got caught with, although its a completely legal steroid.

So we have a drug that is not illegal, and was not banned by Major League Baseball until mid-2002. If this was all Palmeiro took, does it change his career outlook?

Stop making excuses Al.

You'll go to bat for anyone just to make sure your favorite game isn't tarnished.

Motherfucker had 3 years to stop taking it.

I dont think there will be much boos when he comes back (Os vs D-Rays in Baltimore next week) just because I figure there might be about 5,000 people that actually show up for the game at the rate they are going.

I honestly figure this improves the chances of him retiring at the end of the year, although he'll be getting booed instead of cheered on his going away tour. Other than that, I dont know.

Here's a story for everyone in a thread:

There's this guy, you see. He owns a team. He's kind of a moron, but everybody thinks he's a nice guy even when he's in over his head. He looks in the other direction while Palmiero shoots up and suddently becomes a star player and some seats are filled.

The dimwit from before goes on to ramble about how the MLB needs to do more about steroid testing in State of the Union addresses. His former employee goes to Congress to lie about his steroid use. The MLB actually does something by testing him positive.

I know that this borderline political rant but since Washington's hammering on the league to clean up is an important issue in this whole thing, I have to point out the irony.

Stanozolol? There's no way that could be an accident. It's only legally available by prescription. You can't find it in any supplements where it could be consumed by mistake.

Either Palmeiro lied -- repeatedly -- or someone's trying to make him look bad.

They said on Sportscenter today that Palmeiro tested positive for steroids months ago, and that he was going through his "appeal process." So quite possibly he was on roids during the chase for his 3000th hit.

The positive test was in May. I am trying hard not to believe that MLB has covered it up in order to not have steroids again be the focus during the bulk of the season, including the whole All Star festivities. It's just getting harder and harder to give a shit. The thing is, I really, really don't care if everyone is using steroids, but if they ban it, then don't use it. Period. It's called cheating.

But I mean seriously, has anyone ever seen those books of banned substances in the NFL and the MLB. BOOKS. Literally. There is a large book with just a list of stuff that they can't use. I mean, he used it, suspend him, but its not exactly the same as sticking a needle in your ass. They hire trainers and nutritionist, and if they don't stay on top of it, a player could very well take something that they didn't know was on the list.

I heard this on Cold Pizza from one of their baseball analysts.

They said in 1998 or 1999, Palmiero made a plea to Clinton to get his brother out of Cuba as a favor. Clinton made it happen.

Then, when Palmiero was in front of Congress in March, he goes and straight lies to them.

How about that? You go and ask the government for a favor and it obliges and then you go and lie your ass off to them later when the heat comes down.

I'm not saying I totally agree, just thought I'd throw that out there.

Just think, if Palmeiro tested positive in May, and we just found out about it, how many other roiders are playing today? And if the reports are right that it was Stenozolol, then there's no way Palmeiro didn't know it was banned.

Palmerio was allowed to play until they all decided he needed to be suspended. One of the medical guys thought that his story(the reason it was in his system) was plausible

While alot of the out of controll nature of steriods can be blamed on the owners and MLB's hierarchy, its quite unfair to suggest Bush "looked in the other direction" when his players were juicing.

You want to say he didn't do anything, fine. You can't say however if he suspected and chose not to know something that he should know.

Also in light of how much crap hands on owners like George Steinbrenner and Marge Schott get/got and how much a Fred Wilpon here in New York gets lambasted because he wanted to get "safe" players on his roster it wouldn't surprise me if an owner, especially one with a famous family name, would be a hands off owner.

Am I the only one curious to see the consequences of baseball letting the information be leaked? If I am a player, the next time they come around with a test they get a nice "fuck you" from me, since their confidentiality agreement is apparently garbage.
