MikeJordan23 0 Report post Posted August 5, 2005 I wasn't judging his ability. Just considering him overrated, full of hollow numbers, a stat monkey, and non-clutch. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Uh-oh. ...and what the fuck is a stat monkey? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Someone who just cares about statistics and not the team, I would guess?! Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2005 Hopefully Small takes out the Jay's tonight. If NY wants the wildcard or Division, then now is the time. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well he won again. If he can continue to be a solid consistent starter, that would be a great help. 3 games back of both the div and wc now. They need to stay within striking distance at least. winning series is key. whcih they have don e agood job of over the past month or so (save for the ones in anaheim and cleveland) Remember two important series vs Boston in sept, if they are still like 2 or 3 back then, it would be ok. Bout time the sox lost a game, then again they have been playing tampa bay, kansas city, and minnesota the past week (but then again the yankees have struggled against TB and KC) And coming up next for the Yanks, the white sox. YIKES Sweeping this toronto series would seem very important no?
Guest StylesMark Report post Posted August 6, 2005 I respect the White Sox. But I could see the Yanks steamrolling over them, fluke or not. Sweeping Toronto is a priority. It would be nice if they didn't fall any further back than this.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2005 In case no one noticed, the Brewers beat the Phillies in Philadelphia last night to put them at .500...this is the latest in a season the Brewers have been at .500 since 1998. These aren't your older brother's Milwaukee Brewers, folks. Not saying they're going to catch the Cardinals or even make a serious contention for the Wildcard, but maybe people will finally start paying them a little attention since they actually have a good team this year. Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2005 It's baseball. Over the course of 162 games, even amazing teams are going to drop some to terrible teams. Just how it works out. You seriously don't expect them to win every game, do you?

They were looking good for a while until they remembered they were the Milwaukee Brewers. I guess Bob Uecker deserves a .500 team after all these years. Hey speaking of Wrigley, Cubs drop their fourth in a row, seventh of last nine.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2005 No but losing to Toronto, Kansas City and now Seattle is worrying me... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Toronto doesn't deserve to be listed with those two. KC and Seattle were two of the six teams that were said to be out of it at the deadline; the Blue Jays are still clinging to a longshot at the wild card with Baltimore's freefall. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2005 Aaron Small's had some success, but he is FAR from a long term solution. He's struck out six and walked six in 20 innings. In addition, Small only struck out 21 batters in 49 AAA innings. You can not strike out so few hitters and remain successful. Something is going to give. Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2005 well at the very least NYY is only 3.5 game back in the east right now. so If Boston starts losing more frequently and Yanks can win some games, they may stay in it. It seems as If the WC is out of the question if oakland stays hot (unless the angels fall from first and drop below the yanks somehow), so Beating Boston may be their only option. Hell who knows how the pitching challenged Yanks would even fare in a postseason? But Ill hope for the best. As I have said before, if they somehow manage to actually make the postseason again, Ill be more than happy. The problem is that the offense can't win EVERY game. For once I agree with the ESPN guys. As said on Baseball Tonight this night, The starting lineup has to play every single game, as the bench is rail thin. No wonder the offense stops producing, hell Jorge Posada must feel 100 years old with all the games he has had to catch between regular season and playoffs. What happened to pitching in baseball anyway? There are so few dominant starters anymore. Must be the result of expansion.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2005 It's so true. For years, I watched little more than Cubs games and whatever was on ESPN. Getting the MLB Extra Innings package has opened a whole new world for me. Now I've got the option of seeing virtually every start by the likes of Johan Santana, Chris Carpenter, Jake Peavy, Roger Clemens, Ben Sheets, and essentially everyone Al listed. I watch my fair share of Yankees games and to be honest, they get a bit monotonous. If you stick soley to the Yanks, there's so much more that you're missing out on. It's also stupid to blame expansion, since only four new teams have emerged since the '80s.
Cuban Linx 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2005 Anaheim lose to Tampa Bay, giving the Oakland Athletics a share of the AL West division lead. If Oakland didn't start the season playing like a 100-loss team, they'd probably be running away with the division and well on their way to being a 100-win team at this point. Boon 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2005 I guess part of the problem is that there aren't any large markets for most teams in the MLB. Being in Boston, if you're not watching the Red Sox, you're not watching baseball. Unless you fork over the money for the nifty packages, you're limited to what you can watch. However- this is no excuse for ignorance of the rest of the league. There's the internet, and ESPN, and lots of other ways to figure out what else is going on.
