Annabelle 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2005 Eh...I still say Nelly is the greatest party rapper. he says even less than Ghostface, yet his singles are beaten to death at any club/party you might go to. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i wasn't talking about 12 year old girl birthday parties... Ripper 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2005 Niether am I. Nelly gets 1000% times more spin than Ghostface ever has in the clubs. outside of the obvious answers like Luke or Puffy, Nelly is pretty much party MC as you will never hear anyone riding by bumping Nelly. His music is for the club and the club only. Some of the southern guys like the Ying Yang Twinz or Pastor Troy are getting bigger, but still, nowhere the level that Nelly has reached. Annabelle 0 Report post Posted September 1, 2005 i am talking real parties. where people with discernable musical tastes play music. i'm not talking about radio station sponsered closing time slow jams with tim mcgraw. i understand where you are coming from, but i think we have a difference of opinion in what party music is. you're talking about being in a club. sure, nelly will get played more. when at a home, or with a dj with a brain who'll mash shit up & want a FUN jam - ghostface will be used far more than nelly. as far as being the BEST at what they are doing, it can't be nelly. he isn't even real rap. its pop rap. its watered down shit for the listeners who can't handle the real thing. he's long since sold his soul to the commerical devil without any form of credibile return. no integrity. no style. nothing. he's never been apart of anything thats listenable...heck i'd give the guy points if he's ever worn anything cool. i can't even do that. he's the antithesis of cool. fred durst is miles davis in comparison to nelly. understand? ill give you an example of ghostface being a party mc. theres this french house group named cassius. ok, in france dance music is americas rap. its unbelievably popular there. who is the only mc they had on their album? ghostface. thats a party album. not forcefed shit that is meant to hype the underage girls at a dance club in nebraska. Ripper 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2005 Oh, Okay. Well if that is how you are looking at it, Dj Kool is the greatest party MC of all time. Let me Clear My Throat will forever be used in mixes, played by good DJs, and will get the party moving always. Hell, I almost started dancing thinking about it right now. Perfxion 0 Report post Posted September 2, 2005 DipSet are more party bangers than Ghostface. Ghostface gets a hell of alot of play here in the greater NYC area. But DipSet kill him in airtime. Nelly is the second biggest party rapper ever. EI, Tip Drill, NaNa NaNa, Flap Your Wings, and Where the Party At? are played almost nightly around here. Number 1 goes to Jay-Z. Big Pimpin, Hey Papi, ect. ect. ect. still get play like its 98 again. As for Kanye, his first album is great if you take away the skits. The second almost so far is great, as long as you take away the skits. The only two skits on the first album I liked are the ones surounding We Don't Care. Speaking of ROC, is it me or is it just a tad annoying how all but Jay-Z and Kanye seem to rap about the same fucking things? And then those two rap about the same things. CBright7831 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 Oh good, chev the Hip Hop Constable is here to remind us that any rapper who doesn't rhyme 83 syllables per bar isn't a true MC. 2pac was excellent in a billion ways besides wordplay from his naturally strong voice, thought provoking subject matter, insane mic presence and charisma, and pop appeal. Why the grouchiness chev? Is it because Japanese businessmen sing "How Do You Want It" karaoke while MF Doom bags groceries to supplement his royalty checks? Is it because he speaks to millions without rapping a backwards backpacker riddle with "secret" metaphors? What's really the issue here chev? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 Back to the lecture at hand: I've listened to Late Registration many times over the past few days, and have determined that it is at least very, very good, and remarkable for two reasons in particular: 1) Making Adam Levine not only tolerable, but great as used on "Heard Em Say," and 2) Getting a fantastic verse out of Paul Wall, which I didn't think was possible. "Heard Em Say," "Drive Slow," "Gold Digger," "Hey Mama," and "Gone" are the peaks, I think. Real fine album with superior beats as compared to the debut--less repetition, more thump, more experimentation. The beat (or lack thereof) on "Roses" is a bit dizzying. Good times. Fökai 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 I'm in love with that weird beat at 2:43 of 'Gold Digger'. His beats are out of this world.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2005 Not that it really matters, but Rolling Stone gave this 5 stars. Its good to see their paint-by-mubers rating scale can color an accurate picture sometimes. And just as a reminder, Kanye is also a really good live mc. Not really pertinent to the new cd but its another thing that sets him apart from alot of other top-name hip hop/rap stars.

Dr. Tyler; Captain America 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2005 I bought Late Registration this weekend and I listened to it about six times in the car on my way back up to college. I have to say, you're right about it getting progressively better every time you listen to it. My favorite songs the first few listens were the singles (both "Diamonds" versions and "Gold Digger"), but now, I adore "Drive Slow" and "Roses". There's so much good in this album that it's hard to really quantify it all. Great effort.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2005 On "Roses" I just look forward to Kanye finishing his pretty much garbage rap in that song for the great production and singing. I love Gone for Consequence's incredible verse, and Really Doe's hook on We Major. The whole album is incredibly strong though.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2005 Forgive me if this is obvious and I'm totally missing the connection, but is the beat for Drive Slow a Tupac beat? I can't find any of my old Tupac CDs to check myself, but it definitely reminds me of or is one. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You're thinking of the horn or flute sample, right? Yeah, it's definitely used in a 2Pac song. I'm racking my brain right now, but I don't have any of his records handy to listen through. I think it's off Me Against the World, but I'm not sure. I know like 5 seconds after I post this I'll think of it..... Ok, after racking my brain I've ID'd the song, it's "Shorty Wanna Be a Thug" off MATW. The sample comes from a Hank Crawford song called "Wildflower" which with any luck I can find and post..... ...... But the reason I even came to this thread in the first place (and ironic) is because the basic part of the Drive Slow beat, the steady background, I KNOW I've heard that verbatim in songs before. In fact, I just deleted a bunch of tracks off my harddrive a couple weeks ago and now I'm kicking myself because that was one of the songs. I think it was Das EFX or Freddie Foxxx, but I'm not sure. I think the chorus went "I can't take the pressure on my brain and I'm buggin". Anyone help me out? I'm trying to trace it back to the original track it's sampled off.... EDIT* nevermind, it's all sampled off the same song, but it's still pissing me off not knowing who else flipped it.... EDIT* I think the song is called "Project Mice" by Freddie Foxxx, but now I can only find the remix on P2P
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2005 Oh yeah, I forgot about Kanye. Well, I thought College Dropout was pretty overrated, so I didn't come into this one with high expectations, and the usual Kanye on the boards > Kanye on the mic attitude. Well, I've been pleasantly surprised here, I like the beats and samples a lot more than those on College Dropout (love the Motor Booty Affair sample on Crack Music, shows Kanye is showing some thought and not just digging the usual P-Funk crates), Kanye is much better on the mic here, and the whole thing just flows better and feels more complete. I've only given it one spin, and Kanye is NOT the second coming of anything, and reading some of Kanye's reviews and fans still makes me want to choke people, but anyway.... CBright7831 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2005 2. Fiddy talks smack about Dre and Kanye. 50 Cent is pointing the finger at super-producer Dr. Dre and Aftermath for The Game's rebellion against G-Unit. In a recent interview with King Magazine, the Queens rapper revealed that Dre could have prevented the escalating feud between G-Unit and Chuck Taylor. "I think a big portion of the problem comes from Dr. Dre and Aftermath. I don't think it was handled properly," 50 told King in regards to the feud that lead to a shooting in front of Hot 97 last March. "If Game felt saying something about me was saying something about Dre, he wouldn't have said what he said. They made him have that comfort." Meanwhile, in a recent interview with MTV, 50 takes credit for Kanye's success by saying "I feel like Kanye West is successful because of me. After 50 Cent, [hip-hop fans] was looking for something non-confrontational, and they went after first thing that came along. That was Kanye West, and his record took off."
