Epic Reine 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 What are some seriesof video games thatwent way too long and overstayed their welcome? Tomb Raider. I LOVED the first 3 Tomb Raider games, I just couldn't get enough of the puzzle solving, story, and great graphics. Then they had to come out with a 4th one with a terrible story and only one location and they had two more games after this and I hear ANOTHER one has just came out. Good god, let it die already. Mortal Kombat It was fun in the 90's, not now. Enough said.
devo 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 Romance of the Three Kingdoms comes to mind. Crash Bandicoot had way too many games. It got to the point where they had to add gimmicks to his platformers for them to have any redeeming value whatsoever. Same goes for Spyro.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted September 19, 2005 Tomb Raider is brutal now. Others? Mario Party. It sucked from game one. Romance of the 3 Kingdoms --- or however many kingdoms have their romance
{''({o..o})''} 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 Final Fantasy is a common answer. Crash Bandicoot and Spryo both went eh.
Eclipse 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 A game that alot of people said went too long is Mario Party. I loved EVERY SINGLE game since part 1! It does it's purpose! Entertains the hell out of people! Mortal Kombat is STILL going on too long. The last MK game that I liked was MK Trilogy.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted September 19, 2005 I'm not liking the Xenogears/Xenosaga games at all. Didn't much love Gears and both Saga games have been rather tedious. Add in Breath of Fire games, too.
{''({o..o})''} 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 Xenosaga 2 bombed to the point that they cancelled the proposed parts 4 & 5. The Chrono series was both too short and too long.
Guest T®ITEC Report post Posted September 19, 2005 What ROTK are they up to now? Like... 12? I've never played any of them, but they almost looked fun. I'm sure I've mislead myself on that, though.
Da Maintenance Man 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 Final fuckin' Fantasy. Damn I hate RPGs...
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 Prior to Deadly Alliance, I would've said Mortal Kombat as well. However, the previous two titles have really breathed life into the series and sales have sky-rocketed in response as well. They'll need to do something new with the fighting engine for the next MK fighting game (and there will be one), whether it be next-gen or not, as I don't think the current one is capable of carrying a third installment. Ripper 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 every Nintendo original character... Resident Evil has gone off on strange, uneeded tangents as well... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But the last resident evil was.... *looks around* .... THE BEST GODDAMNED ONE. Yeah....I said it. Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 I'll agree with you on that, but what about all the drivel between 2 and 4?
Guest Smues Report post Posted September 19, 2005 I'll agree with you on that, but what about all the drivel between 2 and 4? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I must be in the minority that liked Code Veronica. But I will agree that RE 3 wasn't that good, and all the wierd spin off games were junk.
Special K 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 Silent Hill's getting there. I really like the series, but it has to come up with something new in the next game, I didn't even have the interest to finish The Room. Gabriel Knight. What a stunning drop in quality between installments. Final Fantasy I would agree with, except for the notable quality of FFX. Also, FFX-2 while a pretty bad game in general, it had a great system. You want a series that's gone on too long? The SaGa series. It SUCKS. Metal Slug. I love the games, but come one, 6 of them? Agreed on Tomb Raider. I really liked the first one, didn't much like the second, and couldn't stand the series past that point.

Ripper 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 Resident Evil Zero and Remake were good. And I like Code Veronica too. But yeah. Resident Evil 3 does suck.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 I agree with Street Fighter II...the endless "special" versions got old pretty quick. The Alpha series was good though. Mega Man is one I've thought of for a long time. I mean, come on...they're all pretty much the same game... I'd say Mortal Kombat, but I've never really been a huge fan of that game. It's just completely fake looking. The whole fad in the mid '90s of those motion capture graphics really irked me, I guess.
Skywarp! 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 I actually liked the first RE: Outbreak (never tried the second) because knowing that there are other real people trapped with you and being picked off one at a time (then having to fight their corpses) kind of hightens the survival horror experience. The only problem is that I never beat that damned last level because it's too huge to be played using their stupid time limit style (the virus meter), which goes against everything the methodical gameplay has demanded of us. Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 They can stop making Mega Man games anytime now. They haven't been any good since the X games on the SNES.
Star Ocean 3 0 Report post Posted September 19, 2005 Breath of Fire has only gotten better, and Final Fantasy games are still quality RPGs..
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2005 Spyro and Crash became lame because Insomniac and Naughty Dog farmed them out to Vivendi Universal. That's not necessarily a reason, just a side effect. When the creators have decided that there's nowhere else to go with a series, despite the fact that they could cash in every year, then you know it's played out. Da Maintenance Man 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2005 Resident Evil Zero and Remake were good. And I like Code Veronica too. But yeah. Resident Evil 3 does suck. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wow, am I the only one here who enjoyed RE3? I loved those cutscene moments where the game slows down & you're in some life threatening situation & you have to pick between 2 things to do in said situation. IIRC, it changed & branched the gameplay up pretty nicely.
Anya 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2005 RE3 is great. It's my third favorite in the series, behind 1 and 2. The original trilogy are classics. The rest...not so much. MK post John Tobias is sort of lame. Honestly if the newer games weren't MK I wouldn't play them. If the series had ended at MK3 I wouldn't have complained. MK3 would have been a perfect end too, since it's the last 2D game and a very fitting climax to the story.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2005 Mario should stay away from sports games.
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2005 The Smackdown! series needs a mercy kill. They'll probably still be reusing the same engine once it hits the PS3, and that's pathetic.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2005 Mario should stay away from sports games. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Mario Tennis is addicting with a group of friends. Mario Golf I can live without. They should really stop making Metal Gear Solid. Metal Gear on PS1 was awesome, but two bombed (Raiden is not a good character) and three (more movie than game) was unplayable.
