I can't think of a single contending team that didn't whip those guys around during the season. Tampa owned the Yankees this year. That team can hit. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My point exactly. TheDon speaks as if the D-Rays are some push-over team. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah I must be the big idiot on the board. That is why Tampa Bay for the season was 27-54 on the road playing in Cleveland. That is why Tampa Bay has 93 loses already. That is why the pitching has given 926 runs already. Tampa Bay has some good young offensive players in Crawford, Lugo and Gomes but their pitching sucks and they suck away from home. If Cleveland doesn't make the playoffs they blew it because they couldn't win one run ball games against the Devil Rays.

Precious Roy Posted October 1, 2005 Report Posted October 1, 2005 Johnny Gomes is the truth, Crawford is a stud, Cantu had an incredible year in terms of run production from a middle infielder, Lugo is solid, obviously Baldelli when healthy, and then you've got guys like Upton, Gathright and Delmon Young. They have the Cleveland vibe on offense of being young and deep with power and speed, and they have the luxery of so many talented young guys that they pretty much have to move an outfielder or two for some pitching. And that's not even mentioning Aubrey Huff. Plus, Scott Kazmir could be a legit ace, Mets fans are going to bitch about that trade for decades....definitely a team to look out for in the future. And I've always been kind of a closet Brewers fan, I'm not sure if it's the association with beer, or the desire to see them suceed in spite of Bud Selig

If those damn Indians can't be bothered to beat a hungover minor league version of the White Sox (Friday) or put up a measly run or two against Tampa Bay (Wednesday), then they don't deserve a playoff spot. And the Indians' front office was wondering why attendance hasn't picked up until this weekend . . . because deep down, every Cleveland fan knew they'd fuck it up as soon as the city got excited.

I'm probably being overly optimistic here, but Mike Jacobs has shown amazing potential in the 28 games he's been with the Mets. His line was .298/.371/.681 with 10 HR over about 100 AB, which admittedly isn't enough to make a concrete decision on the guy, but I think the Mets should try and make him their starting first baseman regardless. So long as he makes decent progress over the winter, Jacobs could be a great part of a really young, really talented infield.

Naturally, both of them have been mentioned as targets for the Cubbies this winter, especially Furcal. I doubt they land both of them, but it'd seem like a given that they wind up with one since Sammy and Nomar will both be off the books in 2006. Moreover, both would be great fits in Chicago and fill several of their needs. As much of an upgrade on all fronts as Burnitz has been over Sosa, I doubt he's brought back. It's seem like a natural fit for Giles to come in to fill that void, since the Cubs would be lacking any sort of power from the left side. Furcal is going to be one of the more touted FA SS's this winter, but I like the Cubs' chance of getting him. They'd likely over him a good multi-year deal and he'd fill the gap at short, be that proven leadoff hitter they still need and provide some speed on the basepaths. I've soured a bit on the value of speed and stolen bases in recent months, but it's still not a bad thing to have a guy who gets on base regularly that can put the pressure on the pitcher because he may swipe a bag. Of course, the Cubs are no strangers to shattering what seem to be the most logical of moves.

Thanks Dan! As much as I like Furcal, the Braves have Betemit and Orr so if they have more payroll constraints, he's expendable.
