kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2005 Why? When are you planning to see Saw II? That was original...
BX 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2005 I mean, the first one was hilarious, and this second one looks even better. Sort of a bizarre mix between Big Brother and a Geiger painting. If the acting is even half as bad as it was in the first movie (Cary Elwes specifically), then it'll be a winner. It's sad that movies like these are passed off as "horror" these days. RedJed 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2005 Well considering the bloodshed in the last movie, not to mention the dark dirty feel of it overall, why wouldnt it be considered horror? I think I know what you mean but it's still goofy to make a statement like that. Although I agree that the first Saw was (unintentionally) hilarious at spots, and no effort was made to apparently even do a second take on some scenes with the way the acting was. They just came out with an uncut version of Saw today on DVD, by the way. Free ticket to Saw 2 in the package.
dubq 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2005 Well, actually bad acting is quite a known quality of the horror genre. Some of the best horror movies ever made have the worst acting. As for Saw. I agree it isn't a horror movie. I'd loop it in with the suspense/thriller/serial killer quagmire.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2005 The first was one of the funniest, worst movies I've seen in theatrical release. Lacking Cary Elwes and Danny Glover's ridiculous histrionics will probably sting this one a bit.
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2005 I finally watched SAW for the first time last night. I picked up the uncut edition while I was out yesterday. I really enjoyed the movie. The deaths were pretty creative, and the ending was just out there. That reverse bear trap that the woman had to wear was pretty fucked. SInce the uncut version comes with a free movie ticket to see SAW 2, I think I'll be watching that as well.
Guest Reservoir_Kitty Report post Posted October 19, 2005 So, what's the difference between the uncut and regular version of Saw? Dammit, I already have one copy, I don't need two. =/ I need to stop being so hasty when movies I want come out on DVD and wait for the goodies. I'll be checking out Saw II for sure. I enjoyed the first and can't wait to see what they can do with a sequel.
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2005 Reservoir_Kitty from what I've read, there is 8 whole SECONDS of gore added to the uncut version of SAW. I've never seen the r-rated version, so I couldn't tell you what exactly is different.
Guest Reservoir_Kitty Report post Posted October 19, 2005 Ahh, okay. So it's probably something I can live without seeing. I don't think 8 seconds of added gore will really blow my mind or anything. Thanks for the info!
Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2005 I just want to comment on the Hollywood Reporter review. Like most reviews, it may contain small spoilers to be careful: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr/revie...t_id=1001349216 It actually sounds pretty positive, but this is what got me from the review: "The first victim, bloodily disposed of even before the opening credits roll, tries unsuccessfully to gouge out his own eye in order to retrieve a key that has been surgically implanted." Anything having to do with the eyes really makes my skin crawl, so I'm sure this scene is going to kick my ass. I can't wait for it! I loved the first movie, and I'd be willing to bet I'm going to love the second. Here is another review from Variety: http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117928622...egoryid=31&cs=1 I bought the new Saw DVD at Best Buy tonight (free ticket to see Saw 2), and I'm sitting here with the movie on in the background, and I still think it's a fine horror flick. Also, since when I first saw Saw I hadn't watched The Shield, seeing Benito Martinez (David Aceveda) shocked me, pretty cool.

You can actually watch a clip of the movie that is entitled 'Venus Fly Trap' which is what that spoiler sentence is talking about.
UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted October 23, 2005 I loved SAW as far as the story and plot went, but the acting was awful. If the acting in this one can be even halfway better than the original, I'm going to like this film.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 Well I went over to the SAW II Premiere Party at one of my favorite nightclubs last night, I didn't even know this was going on until I got there. They were handing out the soundtrack of the movie for free and I was able to get my hands on one. Its a pretty kick ass CD as it features some big rock performers such as Marilyn Manson, The Used, Sevendust, and Papa Roach. So later on during the party since they're playing all these new and old rock songs for the occasion, we get a free concert from Mudvayne, whose song "Forget To Remember" is the theme for the movie. Donnie Walherg, came out and introduced them. It was pretty awesome to see them live, very energetic guys they are. They performed 6 songs including "FTR" as well as "Happy." I had my digital camera so I was able to record to the whole thing! Then during the 5th or last song, some stupid girl came up and took my fedora hat and I couldn't do anything about it since my hands were tied with recording the performance so afterwards I went up to her to get my hat back and this girl was just all over it. First, she lied to me saying she was single (I got her number from her, but I already knew it was going to be a fake one) then going back on it and saying she was a lesbian and that her female friend was her girlfriend. Seeing how she was a liar, I didn't know what version to believe so that's strike one. Then she wanted to buy it off me. Well, the hat cost me like $40 so of course I'm not simple going to give it away no matter how much she begged me. Then she was like "Okay, I'm going to reach inside my purse and the first bill I pull it out, that's what I'm going to buy the hat for." And not to my surprise, she pulls out a $1 bill. And I'm like "You're kidding me, right?" Strike two. Seeing how she claims to be a lesbo, I told her she has to put on a good show for me since I like to be entertained and I, like other guys, want to document this action in progress. So here I am trying to take pictures of them making out and these girls are simply just toying with me, going really slow or too fast just so I couldn't get a good picture of it and they knew it! After 3 tries of trying to put up with this, she obviously doesn't like me playing hardball right back at her so she's like "Okay, your hat is mine!" and walks off with it like she won a damn contest or something. I'm sorry, but its my property and she didn't oblige to my terms so that was strike three! After waiting a few moments for her to let her guard down, I went up and snatched my hat back and got out of there as soon as I could before her and her girl could do anything about it. Its too bad she gave me the wrong number, I was going to call her and talk shit just to show I can take anybody for a sucker if they piss me off! Other than that BS, I had a great time. HollywoodSpikeJenkins 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 Thanks for letting us know how the movie went... Anyway...I saw the movie tonight. Totally kicked ass and the theater was PACKED. The acting was better than the first, Beverly Mitchelle was hot, and we actually got to know Jigsaw. Of course, the twist at the end made it more shocking. If you see the movie, you will know which scene I am talking about where everybody in the theater gasped and pretty much went into "Holy Shit" mode. It also got a standing ovation afterwards. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 I'm not going to be too hard on Elwes in the first film. Hell, how could anyone play the climax of the movie and not have it be really bizarre and/or unintentionally funny? I don't think it matters who was in the role, nobody could play that scene. I really liked the first one though, hopefully the 2nd is cool. I am probably going to see it due to it being near Halloween. This time of year what would anyone see...Saw 2 or Legend of Zorro?
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 I just got back from the flick. Enjoyed it a lot. I have never gotten the hate or just sarcastic negativity directed towards the first one, which I enjoyed a lot too. And yes, the twist in this was pretty good. It is nice to see a straight-forward horror movie, considering all these horror flicks I have seen in the theaters over the past year or so, where it was either all a dream, a multiple personality, or something of that nature......... Saw II was good.
Guest nWoCHRISnWo Report post Posted October 29, 2005 Alright, but way overhyped movie. You had to know there was gonna be a twist in the movie, so it wasn't that shocking. Not sure how to do spoiler tags, so get ready... **SPOILERS** Why didn't the cops check out Jigsaw's old crime place from the first movie? I know it didn't matter because it was the wrong place anyway, but you'd think they would have checked it out... And it's kind of hard to believe that someone could replicate a house/dungeon to the exact detail he did, but, yeah it's a movie.[/color] **SPOILERS**
HollywoodSpikeJenkins 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 They never found it. The body of the photographer and Cary's foot were still down there.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 But the question that needs to be answered is how hard did BX laugh at this movie?...
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 I dunno about him but it had a couple of unintentional laughs in it. There's a lot more graphic sick shit in this one compared to the first, which mostly had the notorious Elwes "hacking the foot off" scene and maybe a couple other things. But this? Dear God, people dying in really sick ways all through it. As far as the big twist at the end, I actually guessed that about 20 mins. into the movie.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 I was kind of wondering why the one chick who was in on it, wasn't getting sick like everyone else, but I didn't give enough concern to that to put 2 +2 together that she was in on it
Just John 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 Hmm, I liked this movie. It's a lot like the first, but with more violence, and less plot holes. I didn't have high expectations going in, but it was still very enjoyable. I felt this was much more well thought-out than the first, which relied way too much on shock value. Although there definitely were some scenes here just for that... *SPOILERS* Like the guy throwing one of the girls into that pit of used heroin needles. That was just sick. Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted October 30, 2005 over 12 mil on opening nite. I'm pretty happy.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2005 Oh God, that heroin needles scene is something that will stay in my mind for a long time. It's even sicker once you end up realizing that... The chick, Amanda, is in on it with Jigsaw and yet was willing to take that crazy shit, being tossed in a vat of hypodermic needles. That said, I thought from the time she was onscreen that she was in on it. It didn't make any sense for him to just pick her again, and besides I remembered her in the original being almost grateful for being alive. Like Jigsaw taught her a lesson, you know? Epic Reine 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2005 On par with the first film IMO (Which wasn't very good in the first place) I definatley think the best part was the scene where the girl gets thrown in the syringe pit. That was really hard to look at.
haVoc 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2005 It's the #1 movie this weekend making $30.5 million.
haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2005 Far and away the best horror film I've seen in a long time. The hardest scene for me to watch was the man being burned alive inside of the oven in the basement of the house. I just have this thing about watching people die like that. Holy shit the ending took me by surprise. I got so wrapped up in the movie, I didn't see it coming.
RedJed 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2005 Pretty much in the consensus here that this was a damn good follow up to the original, maybe even better than the original itself. Interesting plot turns and such and I'll be interested to see where they go with a likely third one. SPOILERS (kind of) At the end there, what I thought would have been a nice addition, since they still had the dead bodies in the same room as in the original film, they should have shown/explained what happened to the Elwes character from the first one since they did bring him up a few times in the film. The assumption is that Jigsaw got to him after the end of the first movie... Other than that, they covered alot of backstory of sorts in the movie, playing into the original film, which is good to see from a movie I didnt expect that much out of in terms of that. Writing was exceptional for a horror film, in that sense.
