CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2005 This question hardly warrants a thread, and we didnt seem to have a CTDWAT like we do on every other board? Who the hell did Atlanta beat in the 92 LCS? I can picture Cabrera's slide into home, and I'll be more than happy to rundown the Jays lineup in the Fall Classic, but this has been bugging the piss out of me. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted October 18, 2005 Jim Rome used to joke about that all the time on his show, how Bonds couldn't beat a 78-year-old man (Bream) home on a throw from deep short.

And since there were two outs, Bream was going on contact. But I'm sure Jim Rome has never let facts get in the way of a good bashing.

And his knees were shot. Him scoring on that play would be comparable to John Olerud scoring on that play. I read an interview with Cabrera himself where he joked that it usually took a triple for Bream to score from second.

mike546 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2005 Torre said in his big interview with Mike and the Mad Dogg that Lazzone was one of the names disccused between him and George when they met in Tampa Tuesday. He also said that the Tampa people are annoying and disrespectful, and implyed Joe West made the two controversal calls in the ALDS in hatred of Cano. BruiserKC 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2005 The NBA players are crying about how they don't want a dress code and that it's "racist." I tell them to suck it up, put on that Armani suit and shut up. Most of us have to adhere to dress codes at work, whether we're working next to Donald Trump or cleaning out the grease pit at McDonalds. If they feel it's such a racist deal, then they need to leave the NBA and go back to hustling at the playground where they can wear their Bose headphones and retro-jerseys. Although they may not be able to afford those again if they do.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2005 Bruiser, they have a dress code while at work ... the uniforms they wear during games. The league is trying to tell them how to dress before and after work. Using your analogies, it'd be like McDonald's telling the grease pit guy how to dress while driving to work, or Trump telling his employees what to wear over their suit while taking the subway to work. Personally, I wear a pretty scummy hooded sweatshirt over my shirt & tie to work almost every day ... and I'm sure my bosses don't love it, but they really can't do anything about it. Having said all that though, Camby can go suck a dick for saying that they should get a clothing allowance. How about using part of that multi, multi-million dollar salary to buy a few nice suits? the max 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2005 I partly agree with you, nl5. The only place I disagree is that NBA players are different from guys wearing suits everyday in that they are recognizable to regular people and are representing a company even when they are not working. What Stern and Co. are doing may not seem right, but they're trying to get out from under the PR disasters like the Brawl in Detroit and players getting arrested for drugs, guns, etc. I agree that a company shouldn't have the right to tell someone what to wear outside of work, but it's a different situation with NBA players. Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2005 if they're at NBA related functions they should have a dress code if the NBA sees fit...are they trying to force it OUTSIDE of NBA related functions?
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2005 I've heard it only applies when they're conducting "league business." I've heard nothing about it applying to their time away from the team and/or team functions. So what's the complaint?
Black Lushus 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2005 exactly...if the league wants to project a certain image, then they have every right to make these whinebags dress a certain way...i will never feel sympathy for multi-millionaires when it comes to something so trivial...wear the suit to the press conference, wear the bling and baggy clothes to the clubs, plain and simple...
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2005 How the hell is it racist? Yeah I've never seen a white guy in baggy clothes and bling. That Stern, always trying to hold the black man down.
nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2005 People deem it racist because it effects one race more than the other, and thus the implication is that when black players dressed "whiter" it was Ok ... but now that they dress in a more 'urban' fashion it's unacceptable. Kismet 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2005 The gods of Basketball in Jordan and Magic etc, had no problem with it before there was ever a rule. Billy Hunter didn't think it was so bad when it was put in the CBA. The NHL has had a policy in place for a while now, no outrage or cries for the poor Canucks and Europe heavy player base. The players can still wear cornrows or long hair and such, and plain stud earrings are still allowed I assume(correct me if I'm wrong on that). The hair and earrings are more than I get at most jobs anymore. I don't know how many times I've been shot down for a job due to long hair not being allowed by the company rules. This is much ado about nothing.
