What would the Texans do with the #1 pick?

Recommended Posts

If the Texans keep this up, they will easily have the #1 pick in next year's draft. What would you do? I mean, it's not David Carr's fault that he has about 2 seconds to pass on each play. He's shown, in my opinion, the ability to get it done if he has proper protection.

If I ran the Texans, I wouldn't draft Matt Leinart. I'd do everything I could to build a solid respectable offense line and most likely trade down the pick.

Two questions:

1) What would you do if you ran the Texans?

2) What will they do?

I don't follow college well enough to know the hot prospects hitting the next draft, but I will say that the Texans would be stupid to get rid of Carr...the guy has skills, he just needs time to show them...would it be absurd to draft an OL at #1, lord knows that's what they REALLY need...

If Vick comes out for the draft, the Texans would be real fucking stupid to draft him with the #1 pick.. hell they'd be stupid to draft him with their 7th round pick.

Well, if they don't draft a line then they'll need a quarterback whose main idea in the pocket is "RUN!!!!"

Draft D'Brickshaw to be the cornerstone of their OL, though if some other team gets a huge hardon for Leinart or whoever and throws a big package of picks/OL help at them feel free to take it. Whatever they do i doubt they'll fix their mess in one offseason, take Furgeson now and trade what'll probably a top 3 pick in the following years draft for more help, unless someone better than D'Brickshaw will be available then.

Personally i'd rather they draft another QB to take Carr's place on death row and give Tennessee two easy wins a season, and hell i wouldn't be surprised if they did, if David Carr getting murdered every game for about 3 years hasn't taught them by now that they should probably look into getting an Offensive Line that doesn't suck, then maybe they'll never learn.

The Texans could turn it around and win a game or two more than San Francisco and end up with the 2nd or 3rd pick.

I agree with all who said they need to draft Ferguson. If he's there and they don't take him, they deserve to suck forever. If he goes before they pick, they can trade down and get an extra middle rounder, because there's about 4 or 5 first round tackles this year.

The Texans should use every one of their picks on O-linemen. I'm not kidding either. They've got a good QB, a durable RB, and decent WR's but no linemen worth speaking of.

Either draft a gang of fat fucks for the O-line or else draft some defensive playmakers, which they could just get through FA deals really.

They should not draft a QB or RB. They need fat fuck help and defensive ballers more than anything.

And a good coach.

Hmm, what's kind of funny is that there's a pretty decent QB class coming in this year, but noone needs one. Not even the shitty teams.

Brady Quinn is not a pro-caliber quarterback, at least maybe not yet. He needs development, he's had approximately one good half-season. Leinart isn't much either, for that matter, but his lack of arm strength will be ignored.

So yeah I could see the Cowboys because of Drew Bledsoe, and I'd assume the Titans might also be going for a QB of the future if they're not totally sold on Billy Volek (who is?). Maybe we'll see Tennessee end up with Vince Young?

Yeah, the Cowboys could *really* use one of this year's top QB prospects. So could the Chiefs.

I'd like to say the Raiders...but Walter Jones got picked up last year and I want to see what he can do before the Raiders throw him underneath the bus.

I dunno, Bledsoe has been doing great this year, and I'd be willing to give him the benefit of a doubt and say he'll still be effective next year. Thus, any quarterback we draft in '06 would spend about a year as the backup, being groomed for the spot after Bledsoe retired.

Problem is, we have Drew Henson, who supposedly is our QB of the future. I'm about 70% sure he isn't, but we could use that first rounder in '06 on a FS , RT or an inside LB.

Bingo. Henson is a bust but Romo isn't. Dallas has their future qb in Romo, they don't need to waste that pick on another one. They will need to draft another corner to replace Aaron Glenn since he only has one more year in him and a FS. Adding a few offensive linemen wouldn't hurt either.

What the hell makes you think Tony Romo is the future at QB?

They definitely need to draft a QB. Romo is a decent player but he's a career backup, IMO. I sat through enough years of shitty QB's since Aikman left. I don't want another year of Quincy Carter/Clint Stoerner/Chad Hutchinson/Ryan Leaf type guys. They need a real damn QB.

And you honestly think one of THESE guys coming out is the future? There really isn't one good quarterback coming out except maybe Young, and even that's a stretch. If they can find one later, it's a good pick. Wasting a first round pick is just what it is, wasting a first round pick. Fourth or fifth round, sure it's worth looking. First three rounds, the Cowboys would have to be stupid.

They don't need to draft one this year. Bledsoe is good for another year or two, plus 2006 will be a better QB year. Guys like Chad Henne, Brian Brohm and Brady Quinn will probably be coming out. The only QB worth getting this year is Leinart and we won't pick high enough to get him.

BUT.. I would like to get Jay Cutler from Vanderbilt in the middle rounds, I think he can be a Matt Schaub-type of middle round steal.

Hell, maybe Schaub could be the QB of the future. He's gonna get out of Atlanta as soon as he can. I also wouldn't rule out Jerry Jones trying to swing a trade for Phillip Rivers. I'm not a big fan of him though.

I agree with that one. Cutler could be a late round steal. But I think Romo deserves a shot before he gets written off. Has the guy been allowed to try yet?

Next year, I'm not sure what the class will look like. It'll be an up in the air next year with Mr. Vick probably getting all the attention cause I highly doubt he comes this season.

If Cutler is there, I'd take him. And cut Henson.
