Styles Posted November 4, 2005 Author Report Posted November 4, 2005 HALF?? They wanted to cut his salary in HALF??! Damn, that's not lowballing, that's bending a guy over and preparing to anally rape him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Per Wade Keller of the Torch.
2GOLD Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 Look, Christian, Benoit and Bret Hart would never show up in TNA. It just won't and will never happen. WWE will resign Benoit, Christian will take a break and return to the Smackdown midcard next year and Hitman will go back to Canada.

CanadianChick Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 At least if he was in TNA he'd be allowed to be Canadian again. I don't think WWE will let him go, though. They need him to make the bodybuilder wrestlers look good. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Vince: "Okay Chris, we won't cut your salary in half. We'll keep it how it is now, and we'll give you another World Title run on top of that." Benoit: "I dunno..." Vince: "And any choice of feud you want." Benoit: "I'm not sure I'm convinced..." Vince: "FINE! We'll give you your damn hometown back. Jesus Christ!" Benoit: "Deal!" Awful parody aside, I doubt that is a main concern of Benoit's.

Two wrestling companies is better for everyone. Wrestlers and fans. I just don't believe it'll happen. I've learned not to get my hopes up at all.
Guest Coffey Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 I can see two things happening. Either they work it out and Benoit sticks around for awhile, or Benoit decides that he doesn't need to go back to Japan or the Indies with the condition that his body's in, and he hangs up his boots so that he doesn't end up in a wheelchair like Dynamite Kid. I mean, I'd love to dream about Benoit, Jericho & Christian all in TNA putting them on the map...but I don't even think TNA could afford to pay those three.
Styles Posted November 4, 2005 Author Report Posted November 4, 2005 Never said anything about Jericho. From what I hear he's content being a rockstar right now. Christian most certainly is coming in, the Benoit deal is speculation at the moment but his contract is up and he was lowballed, and as for Bret, I've heard from a very reliable source that he's going to TNA as soon as the promotion for his DVD is up.
Guest JMA Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 Awful parody aside, I doubt that is a main concern of Benoit's. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I never said it was. I was being facetious. Still, it would be something they could do to sweeten the deal (in addition to another World title run). Hell, they should do EVERYTHING and ANYTHING to get him to resign. Without wrestlers like Benoit the bodybuilder wrestler would get injured and/or have shitty matches. They need him badly.
Fökai Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 Are we still on Benoit's first contract? If so, we're talking about those high downside guarantees that he and Jericho got (he got paid higher than the other Radicalz). Christian most certainly is coming in He said his interests were outside of wrestling.
Enigma Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 I'm pretty sure this is a new deal. I don't see how WWE would have signed him to a near 6-year deal in 2000. Their standard contract length is 3 years.

Really, who even cares if Bret Hart goes to TNA? He'll be good for one shoot interview where he goes off on McMahon and Michaels -- as if we haven't heard enough of that for the past eight years -- and then his value is shot. He can't wrestle. He was never extraordinary on the mic. TNA would be silly to waste a truckload of money on him. WWE is going to resign Benoit -- they consider him too much of an important part of Smackdown to just let him go. If or when Jericho decides he wants to get back into wrestling, WWE is going to make a serious attempt to sign him as well. They're both upper midcarders with established credibility, and WWE considers them way too valuable to let them just jump ship to TNA. Christian, on the other hand, is a guy WWE has never quite looked at in the same light. He doesn't have the name value the other guys do. I wouldn't be surprised if he does join TNA at some point and time.

Styles Posted November 4, 2005 Author Report Posted November 4, 2005 Did you need to post that twice? It's not "empty" speculation. I never said anything about Jericho.
Sass Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Christian, and Rob Van Dam debuting in TNA by jumping JJ on a show, ala the Outsiders vs. WCW, could be special.

Rendclaw Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 My heart says he will jump, but my brain says he is going to resign. The fan in me would LOVE to see a Benoit/Joe matchup, but no... ::sigh::

In the business, anything truly can happen.
Sass Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 Okay, minus RVD then, the Canadian Mafia in TNA could be a hit.

Placebo Effect Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 Okay, minus RVD then, the Canadian Mafia in TNA could be a hit. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And Test. Bring in Test too. He can reign freely on top, as he's about three feet taller than everyone else in TNA.
Fro Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 The whole TNA/Japan thing would be perfect for Benoit... Orlando is a very short plane ride away from Atlanta. Plus he could work less dates and be with his kids. People who think TNA can't pay him are forgetting TNA had enough money to sign Nash, Savage, and other expensive folks to deals (and have gotten far with Foley and Hogan).

I don't think the TNA fanbase could handle the awesomeness of two Tests in one promotion! [/sarcasm]
Guest karlitoapple Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 I think people are getting way ahead of themsleves thinking that Chris Jericho will go to TNA. I Emailed Meltzer asking about Jericho and he said that him and Chrisitan are not as close as people might think. He said Jericho didn't even know about Christian leaving or why until word broke out about it. Basically his only plans are to work for WWE or not be in wrestling at all.

He's happy with Fozzy and only wants to go to the E.
Mr. S£im Citrus Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 Is Jericho really a "rock star?" Or is this more like a "Roddy Pipper as movie star" circumstance?
haVoc Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 Bret Hart shows up on one of these live TNA specials, calls Team Canada a joke, then brings out Benoit, Jericho, Christian and Lance Storm. Never happen, but it would be huge for me and I don't have too many "huge mark out moments" left.
A Happy Medium Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 Well, I would love to see Benoit face Brian Danielson, mainly for the fact that it would be close to a Dynamite/Benoit match, well the idea of it at least. He'll re-sign.
