From PWInsider:

"WWE developmental talent Ken Doane debuted his gimmick over the weekend at the Raw house shows in Florida, as the leader of The Spirit Squad, a group of male cheerleaders. Doane, who is only 19 or 20 years old, is a really good worker and has been one of the focal points of Ohio Valley Wrestling over the last year. Florida indy worker Lex Lovett worked in Doane's corner at the house shows, although I don't know if he's been signed to a deal."

If this is a gimmick from OVW, could you guys please explain this to me? I know it would more than likely be better if I didn't know, but still. It sounds like it could be something along the lines of the cheerleaders skit from SNL meets WWE "creative".

2006 seems like a very timely year to base a character off of a SNL skit that began in 1996. Maybe they can give someone a Steve Urkel gimmick while their copying TV character gimmicks at the height of their popularity.

Shelton Benjamin is going through a change right now.

Make it happen Vince.

WHEN was it they decided that every new worker was going to have a flamboyant, 2-dimensional gimmick? Was it when Goldust got over in 2002? Or was it Eugene? Because neither one of those guys is exactly on TV every week anymore. Somebody let me know, please.

Meh.

I pictured that he'd have cgi ghosts that help him cheat during his matches.

Or 3-4 guys who happened to love their alcohol and were each named after one:

Gin Russell

Vodka Sipinski

Benjamin Schnapps

And of course, a valet named Brandy.

In all seriousness, given the Undertaker/Orton stuff we've seen recently, I can actually imagine WWE doing this.

Like most gimmicks these days, I'm gonna take a wait and see on this. Some guy on the indys was named "The World's Greatest Heterosexual Male Cheerleader" Pepper Parks. He was in the Super 8 Tourney, so he must've done something right. Don't know if the gimmick was a hit though.

That is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. There is nothing wrong with Ken Doane's character in OVW. He's got a good deal of charisma and he's a very good wrestler. He, along with CM Punk and Brent Albright, are the main reasons I started watching OVW again.

This is one of the dumbest fucking things I've heard in a long time. Doane is a great asshole heel on OVW and should simply translate that character to WWE. He'd need to drop the RKO as his finisher and get something else of course, but otherwise he's fine as is.

Jesus. I'm with all of the OVW fans that are highly disturbed by this. Doane is ridiculously good for a 19 year old. This side of the Briscoe Brothers, I can't recall ever being blown away by someone's age when I first heard it as much as I was with Doane. He has the look, and more talent than most. I would like to see him get another year in OVW, as he's very good now, but I'm sick of seeing guys developed on WWE TV.

Anyway, the guy's "cocky heel" is great. I never expected WWE to ruin one of "their own" with something this lame.

I want to hear Doane's first OVW promo after he debuts on Raw, though. Let's see how he goes from "the guy who will break Randy Orton's World Title record" to "male cheerleader"...

Oh, and no, Pepper Parks was not any good.

Nick Nemeth as Chavo's caddy was no big deal. He is completely unrecognisable in OVW by comparison. Shave his head again, take off his shirt and call him something different and no one will even remember the caddy stint. Hell, I bet no one remembers it now. Besides, I haven't seen anything except very solid basics from Nemeth. Doane, on the other hand, could be wearing the IC title tomorrow and not look out of place or outclassed.

It's not. Isn't his gimmick that he is the next Randy Orton in OVW and that he uses the RKO?

Well, at least he's setting his sights low.

Ken Doane is hella cool in OVW.

The bonus in, I can see his current OVW persona fitting in with being a male cheerleader. If he continues being cocky, gets a manager and continues on the mike, he'll be good.

Man, they better bring Sosay with him.

^ That's a positive thought. Thanks for bringing oh-so-much to the table.

I thought that was pretty clearly the point of my post. My name is TFP/Placebo Effect.

I should leave this stuff to the professionals.

Let's just pretend that this never happened.

I don't really see them bringing Sosay up with him. She's decent enough looking for some chick on OVW, but I dunno if she's hot enough (or has fake enough tits) for Vince. Still, I remember Jillian when she was on OVW and it's like seeing a totally different person now due to the plastic surgery.

Jillian Hall's breasts literally scare me.

Sosay plays the valet so well, it's a shame they'll fuck it up.
