haVoc 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2005 Recap of The Game on Regis! Credit: Kenny Q. & PWInsider.com HHH appeared on Live With Regis and Kelly today. Here's a report. - H came out and Regis shook H's hand, but H said that Regis should have locked up with him instead. They lock up in the "referee position", but then Regis manages to get a few playful punches and a slap to H's face. Regis then taunts H, and they laugh. - Regis then talks about H and Steph being married, and H says they have been married for two years. Regis says that it had to be something in a business full of tough guys, for the boss's daughter to walk in and you be attracted to her. - H says that he and Steph got to know each other through the marriage storyline and when guys would ask him if he was dating Steph, he would say no he was not. - H said at first Vince did not approve of H and Steph dating because it was "bad for the business", but eventually he came around. Regis says he sees them now when they are all out eating and they look very happy. H says they are. - H says that him and Steph had sort of a "dry run" at married life with the storyline of marital problems and then the divorce, and how this showed both of them how not to handle situations in real life. - Regis ask what Steph was doing now and H said she was in charge of creative. Regis ask was she a wrestler and H said no, that her last match was when she wrestled Vince where he choked her out with a steel pipe. H says that in her first match at Armageddon, he was sitting backstage hoping she didn't get a black eye. - They talked about the tribute to the troops, and H says that they do the whole works (have ring set up, theme music, heels/faces) for the troops. H says that Iraq was too much of a "hot zone" with the elections, so WWE chose Afghanistan where the troops tend to be forgotten by the media. - H says that unlike other entertainers the WWE goes out on the front lines with the troops instead of staying nice and safe at a big base. He says it involves everything from eating in the mess halls with the troops to being under fire on a helicopter ride, like they were. - Regis asked about the special forces and H says that you can always tell who they are because they are always the quiet people, and you know they could take you out in a heartbeat. H says they are awesome. - Regis asked about WrestleMania, and H says this will be number 22. Regis ask who will be in WrestleMania, and H says they do not know yet. H says they are on the "road to WrestleMania" right now. - H did say, however, that he is going after the champ, and could possibly come out of WrestleMania the champ. Regis ask about the champ, John Cena; H says that Cena is popular with kids, women, and people who like rap. Regis mentions that H is a 10-time champion. - Regis then taunts H again, and pretends to poke H in the eye. They then talk about when Stone Cold broke Regis's nose, Regis also talks about when Freddie Blassie broke his (Regis) finger years ago. - H then talks about injuries and how the guys in the ring are responsible for each other's safety. H says that when he and HBK are in the ring with each other, however, they do actually hit each other just to show off and joke about who hits the hardest. - Regis wraps up the interview saying that the tribute to the troops comes on Friday (12/23/05), but H corrects him and says that it came on Monday but will re-air this Friday. - Overall funny interview with a very honest and cordial HHH. Astro7x 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2005 All of that is nothing new really... Steph and HHH said the same thing when they were on Stern.
The Mandarin 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2005 Except that Triple H's love of anal sex was not discussed on Regis.

SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2005 - H says that him and Steph had sort of a "dry run" at married life with the storyline of marital problems and then the divorce, and how this showed both of them how not to handle situations in real life. The next time my wife and I have problems, I'm going to compare her vagina to the Grand Canyon in front of 18,000 paid spectators.
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2005 - H said at first Vince did not approve of H and Steph dating because it was "bad for the business" Good thing his fears proved to be unfounded!
Guest Scuba Steve Report post Posted December 23, 2005 HHH seems like a genuine good guy and a guy that you wouldn't mind hanging around with. I wonder if he's really a jerk like everyone claims because he comes off good in interviews.
Mole 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2005 - Regis then taunts H again, and pretends to poke H in the eye. They then talk about when Stone Cold broke Regis's nose, Regis also talks about when Freddie Blassie broke his (Regis) finger years ago. If it weren't for Blassie, Regis wouldn't have a career. That is the only reason Regis has wrestlers on the show, more often than the other ones. He knows wrestling made his career and he wants to keep them on there. MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2005 I was trying to figure out why they would have HHH on this morning with the Tribute show being on Monday. HHH said its being re-aired but I can't find any info on that on my tivo. I have RAW set to auto record all and its not listed in my to do list. I think hes confusing the Smackdown special with the RAW show.

Enigma 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2005 Austin broke Regis's nose? Details please. Austin appeared on the show at some point during 1998. Regis wanted him to do a "demonstrative" Stunner on him. Austin did, and ended up breaking Regis' nose.
Guest clockworkraven Report post Posted December 23, 2005 H then talks about injuries and how the guys in the ring are responsible for each other's safety. H says that when he and HBK are in the ring with each other, however, they do actually hit each other just to show off and joke about who hits the hardest. So if he was actually going to hit someone with a sledgehammer, that's how hard he'd do it?
Slickster 0 Report post Posted December 24, 2005 Why is it OK for HHH to expose the business by saying "only HBK and I really hit each other"?

Slickster 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2005 Because people have figured out that wrestling is fake I'm pretty sure people stopped believing it was real c. 1940s when results stopped being printed in newspapers. However, I don't remember Flair talking about "Steamboat and I, we REALLY hit each other, though." Perhaps you could refresh my memory.

However, I don't remember Flair talking about "Steamboat and I, we REALLY hit each other, though." Perhaps you could refresh my memory. Shut up. The WWE reguarly recognizes that their program is 'booked' when out of the context of their actual shows. Back in the day, when a wrestler appeared on a show, he'd be appearing as his character. Nowadays, it's the actual person, and breaking kayfabe comes with that territory. On the Eddie Guerrero MSNBC show JBL happily recognized that he was booked to loose to Chavo that night. OMG IT'S OKAY FOR JBL TO EXPOSE THE BUSINESS!!!!

OMG IT'S OKAY FOR JBL TO EXPOSE THE BUSINESS!!!! No, it really isn't OK for anyone to expose the business. Kayfabe is necessary to maintain suspension of disbelief. Without suspension of disbelief, who would watch? We know it's predetermined and we've been fans for years, yes, but what about all the young people who are just starting to become WWE fans? Without kayfabe, you kill the mystique of professional wrestling and make it into just another TV show.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2005 Kayfabe is dead. It's the year 2005. If Triple H tried to act like Triple H the wrestler he would be looked at as a joke. On the Eddy Tribute Show on MSNBC should JBL talked about how he hated him because he hates Mexicans?
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2005 Because people have figured out that wrestling is fake However, I don't remember Flair talking about "Steamboat and I, we REALLY hit each other, though." Perhaps you could refresh my memory. This has nothing to do with anything. People accept that wrestling is fake, and to pretend otherwise is nonsense. Slickster 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2005 On the Eddy Tribute Show on MSNBC should JBL talked about how he hated him because he hates Mexicans? That's a straw man argument, Bob, and you know it is. I had hoped you were above using that garbage. Yes, people accept wrestling is predetermined and have done so for decades. However, you don't need to rub it in people's faces the way WWE does. You need to maintain that suspension of disbelief or why would people cheer for characters or care about them? This isn't a TV show where we know it's actors just playing roles. Wrestlers can't just completely drop their gimmicks outside of the ring. This is one of the basic tenets of the business and I'm sad to see it fall by the wayside.
SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2005 The only time I give a shit about kayfabe is during pro-wrestling shows. The rest of the time I expect wrestlers to act like regular people.

Having the wrestlers be themselves away from Raw, smackdown and the pay per views hopefully can expand the audience. The most unrealistic characters they have, the Boogeyman, Undertaker, Kane, would you want them in character unless it was some sort of skit like on a Saturday Night Live? bob_barron 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2005 That's a straw man argument, Bob, and you know it is. I had hoped you were above using that garbage. No it's not. The Eddy tribute is an extreme example, but the point remains about kayfabe. It's dead and acting like wrestling is real is stupid. However, you don't need to rub it in people's faces the way WWE does. You need to maintain that suspension of disbelief or why would people cheer for characters or care about them? Because it's wrestling and you get wrapped up in the show and have fun booing and cheering and rooting for your favourites. This isn't a TV show where we know it's actors just playing roles. Wrestlers can't just completely drop their gimmicks outside of the ring. This is one of the basic tenets of the business and I'm sad to see it fall by the wayside. Yes they can, because if they don't, it just makes wrestling look stupid. Kayfabe is dead.
Angle-plex 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2005 (edited) On the Eddy Tribute Show on MSNBC should JBL talked about how he hated him because he hates Mexicans? Yes. The reaction on this board would have been incredibly entertaining. The Undertaker on Regis and Kelly would be great. The lights going out and the fog in the studio would be excellent. Hoff 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2005 If you can't suspend belief on your own, without the WWE telling you "it's real, honest!", that's a pretty sad state of affairs. As Bob put it, assuming the wrestlers are entertaining, one should be able to get wrapped up in the moment easily enough. That's how every other fictional TV show in existence functions.
