Phoenix Fury Legdrop Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Edit: Tegan And Sara are a band I'll play for my kids, and for some ODD reason, I'm digging the shit out of KT Tunstall. Tegan & Sara are so damn fun, and a good live band to boot.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 The Libertines are totally unimportant and pretty bad to boot. How can you conceive that they're in any way relevant. And Sons and Daughters, too. You're not batting 1000. They're miserable live.
Giuseppe Zangara Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 BabyShambles, but ONLY if Pete dies. Then, people will consider him a prophet like Cobain or some shit like that. If he lives on, he'll continue to be a punch-line and lifelong junkie like Lou Reed and Patti Smith. The band that I want to see be remembered in 20 years is Brian Jonestown Massacre. While Anton isn't exactly a musical genius, he sure is a great songwriter. I really don't see what's so great about Death Cab, but that's mainly because everyone I know that likes them is Little Miss. Pre-Teen Son of a Bitch that calls Paris Hilton her hero. So, obviously, I'll have my reservations. I would love to see Sons And Daughters and Arctic Monkeys live on, but I highly doubt they will. AM have been hyped SO fucking much that if their next album is a slight notch below their freshman, they'll be fucked. Sons and Daughters are just too weird. Ryan Adams could live on if he goes back to making albums like "Heartbreaker"...that album made me consider him this generation's Bob Dylan, but everything else after is a letdown. Edit: Tegan And Sara are a band I'll play for my kids, and for some ODD reason, I'm digging the shit out of KT Tunstall. Yeeeeeeah, flame away. This whole post reads as if you spend a lot of time browsing Pitchfork and flipping through NME, memorizing the names you pick up but without knowing what any of it means.

That's weird, because i've never even been to Pitchfork, and while I read NME, I don't let it decide what bands I like. I'll take a quick listen to what they say is good, and if I don't like it, I don't listen to it anymore. If what you said were the case, I would be listing Arctic Monkeys as the band that will outsell The Beatles, The Cribs as the new saviors of rock, and Kaiser Chiefs as gods. However, I enjoy AM, but wouldn't call them the best British band ever, couldn't give two shits about The Cribs, and don't really consider Kaiser Chiefs to be all that good. The BJM, on another note, I discovered by watching "Dig!" at film school when Ondi Timoner came and screened it. It had nothing to do with Pitchfork OR NME. And while we're talking about it, I first heard Ryan Adams on a mix CD my friend made me. Once again, not Pitchfork. Not NME. Soooo...there's THAT.

I didn't see "infectious hooks" or "shimmering power-pop production" nearly enough in there. Patti Smith, though, yeah.

I don't think so - they're probably quite important to British pop in the past 10 years. Saying much?? Not a fan but they were quite a decent group and will be remembered.
Ravenbomb Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 The Yeah Yeah Yeah's and the Magic Numbers. Modest Mouse, too, if they count as recently popular

I thought they got their deal in 2001, released two shitty albums, and have a Liam Gallagher-wannabe lead singer who somehow continues to get press despite being a deeply uninteresting musician beyond his addictions. I guess their absolutely nonexistent impact in the U.S. colors my impression of them significantly.
Murmuring Beast Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Of the past 10 years I should have said. I think you're being overly harsh. And just because they haven't made an impression in the US doesn't mean they are bad. Again, I'm not a fan but they/he don't deserve such harsh critique.

Why? anyone who truly respects bob dylan, or understands his musical relevence would be a little more articulate than to call him the "unfuckwithable" or whatever ridiculous phrase you've concocted. that, and you're embarrassing yourself by displaying such an assinine phrase. but its bob dylan, y'know, the most influential lyricist in rock n'roll. there's a level of intelligence to his work. that phrase displays the complere opposite of what he's about.

Dr. Zoidberg Posted February 15, 2006 Report Posted February 15, 2006 Exactly. Calm Down. It's an internet message board. EDIT: There. Changed it.
Annabelle Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 i guess an internet message board is an appropriate medium to display your unintelligence & musical ignorance by putting pictures of your heros with witty catchphrases as though they will somehow place some relevence on your pitiful existance.

The Czech Republic Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 Okay, Banky's being a pretentious ass right now with the old "you're not fit to share my musical tastes" act, but 'Hey. JK-47. Fuck you. I ain't changing shit." is way too petulant. For the record, "unfuckwithable" vaguely has something to do with Dames. Like, he banned someone, or something. I dunno. I thought it fell out of use, myself. I probably wouldn't refer to Bob Dylan as such, though. I also won't call him Zimmy. I WILL NOT REFER TO HIM AS ZIMMY.

Red Baron Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 I don't think this is Banky though.
The Czech Republic Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 Yeah it is, he changed his username
Corey_Lazarus Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 "Unfuckwithable" is a running gag at TSM used to mean, as I interpret it, "the man." So by calling Dylan "unfuckwithable," it's saying he's "the man," ie. great.
The Czech Republic Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 But, it's...so....no, I can't deal with this, it's just...GOD!
The Czech Republic Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 But, it's...so....no, I can't deal with this, it's just...GOD! I'll change my sig to "Blonde on Blonde: Yeah, and it rocked, IIRC."
Giuseppe Zangara Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 Banky's right and Czech is acting as if he never trolled any of the hip hop threads here. I'm not even talking about the asinine bullshit ones about "beefs." Hell, he also pops into the occasional metal thread just to make fun of something he doesn't understand.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 Kibagami/Wander the Wind was the first guy to use Unfuckwithable. Dames dug it too, I think. I forget what the rest of this thread was like. Has anyone mentioned pro or con on Radiohead? I was just checking, and they're only in their late 30s. They can keep working at the kind of music they've been making since 2000 pretty easily, and probably doing a decent job of it too. Even a merely decent-good album like Hail to the Thief had a healthy share of great and/or unexpected songs. When they get really old they can turn into crusty prog-rockers.
Vyce Posted February 16, 2006 Report Posted February 16, 2006 dating lohan ain't gonna help matters No, that's Bryan Adams. What's up with that? He's seriously got to have like 25 years on her, at LEAST. That's just gross.

Yeah they're in there, I would think. I have a feeling this album is their last, though. The fact that they only did 7 albums over 13 years is kind of a negative, as well as the fact that Thom Yorke is an ass, whether he's doing his Bono-lite "we hv to sve the envirnmnt" crap, or bitching about how UTTERLY OVERWHELMING it was for him to be asked what his influences for OK Computer were.
Corey_Lazarus Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Robby Roadsteamer, having recently been signed to a major label, is going to own ALL of your fucking souls. I'd just like to say that now.
