The Man in Blak Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Oh yeah, I'll definitely end up pulling for Seattle in this one, becoming increasingly anti-Steeler as the hype continues. I hate these years when the only reason I have to root for either team is being sick of hearing about one of them. One other factor in this: the Steelers are an old NFL team with a lot of history and playoff appearances in their time. The media is going to focus on them as much as possible, since they're the most recognizable team from the two by a longshot. The media is dumb.
Hawk 34 Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 In order, A). Bettis playing final game in home-town C). Cower's "SBXXX" redemption D). Holmgreen winning it without Favre E). How many different ways to spell Big Ben's last name wrong F). How cold Detroit is B). Hasselbeck's hot sister-in-law (It's not on ABC, right?) ABC airs the game this time around. So you be assured that Hasselbeck's sister-in-law will be mentioned a few times in a cross effort to show a hot chick with cause and promote one ABC's popular shows.
Special K Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 God, I thought you guys were exaggerating. The beginning from an ESPN.com article. SEATTLE -- I'm not sure how I feel about a Super Bowl being named after a shirt size (XL), but nobody can argue about the two finalists. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks belong in the championship game, though nobody really belongs in Detroit during the first week of February But that's where we're all headed, even though it was only five degrees colder in Torino, Italy -- site of the upcoming Winter Olympics -- than it was in Detroit on Sunday night. In a pinch, Detroit now can handle the Super Bowl, the luge heats, and the Punt, Pass, and Ice Sculpt competition. Jerome Bettis doesn't care. The Steelers' mass transit system is going home to Motown, courtesy of a 34-17 win at Mile Low. And the Seahawks don't care. They're going to their first-ever Super Bowl. Tell them the game is in Fargo, N.D., and they'd arrive with smiles as wide as Mike Holmgrem's bald spot (not that there's anything wrong with bald spots). Just terrible. Of course he goes on to mention espresso and Bill Gates. Ugh.
2GOLD Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 You know what, you could send me to the middle of nowhere in 25 degree weather if it means covering the Super Bowl. Bunch of spoiled babies.
Slayer Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 Dear Sports Media, *ahem* ...fuck you Sincerely, Drew
Lil' Bitch Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 The Steeler's Superbowl loss from 10 years ago will be avenged!
Lt. Al Giardello Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 I hope Bettis gets the superbowl, hall of fame runningback even if he doesn't win. GO STEELERS GO!!!!!!!

The media is going to focus on them as much as possible, since they're the most recognizable team from the two by a longshot. The media is dumb. Well no shit they're going to focus on the Steelers. You know how if you try to name all the teams in the NFL from memory, you always go "there. got 'em all. no wait, one short. Shit, what is it? AGH THERE'S ONE MORE WHICH FUCKING TEAM DID I FORGET"? That team is the Seahawks
Slayer Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Right. That's why I've always said that they're just a "they're there" team. Obviously they're not a historically great team like Dallas, GB, or SF, but they're not one of those historically bad teams that stick out in your mind, like the Cardinals, Bengals or orange creamsicle Bucs Really, if you look back at their team history, you'll see a lot of 9-7, 8-8 and 7-9 seasons. Hooray for mediocrity
Red Baron Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Seattle is known for fucking up people's pools with the spread.

Black Lushus Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 does Michelle Tafoya still work the ABC sidelines? I like her in a MILF kinda way.
Robert Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 This reminds me of the Cowboys/Steelers SB's of the 70's. The Cowboys had the finese offense with Pearson, Roger Staubach, with the Flex defense. I still think Pittsburgh will win, but it'll be a nail-biter.
Guest Crazy Dan Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 Ahh, it is great to finally have a little free time to finally post here... that is what student teaching will do to a guy. Well, first off, who had these two teams playing in the Super Bowl in the beginning of the season. I think the answer would be very miniscule. However, I think this Super Bowl could be very good, since both teams are peaking at the right time and there are so many interesting story lines which will keep every football junkie going until 2/05/06. Another plus is that the Patriots will not get a chance to defend their crown, so we finally will get a new champion, which IMO is a good thing. I don't think this game will be a blowout, because both defenses are solid, which will keep both teams in throughout the game. Big Ben has redeemed himself from his awful playoff performance last season and Hasselbeck has removed the "We are going to take the ball and we are going to score" demons as well. Bettis gets to end his career playing in the Super Bowl, which is a fitting end for a future HOF and Alexander proved that he is not a soft player, but turning the most impressive RB performance of the playoffs. Both teams caught breaks to get here, whether it was a season saving tackle by Big Ben and a shanked field goal, or being able to face a Skins team which had a very mediocre offense and being able to win without playing the best football. Both the Steelers and Seahawks earned the right to play in front of the world. I am not sure who will win, you can make a strong case for either. The AFC is the better conference and beating the top three seeds is very impressive. The Steelers proved during this run that they are not just a run-first, pass little team. Big Ben has shown remarkable passing skills, which helps open up the running game. If the Steelers take a lead, they are very hard to come back on, because their running game eats the clock up. The defense has been all over the place, led by the mane of Troy P. (I am not going to even attempt to spell his name) who appears to be in on every tackle and play. Also, it was very impressive that the Steelers won three on the road in the playoffs. Definately a Road Warrior team, which might have been very beneficial for this team, since they did have 6-2 road record. The Steelers are favorites for a reason. Seattle, despite being knocked for playing a weak schedule in a weak division, still was the cream of the NFC. They have a very underrated defense, which has shut down their last two playoff opponents. They shut down Steve Smith, who I felt was the most dominant player of the playoffs up to the Conference Championships and they made Delhome, who had the highest QB rating in the playoffs, look like one of the first year QB's did. Hasselback has been very good. He carried the Seahawks to a win over the Skins, despite the turnovers, and he is making every pass count when the Hawks need a play from him, he has delivered. He is the heart and soul of the Seahawks. Also, the Seahawks might not have the greatest recieving corps, but they are not dropping the passes, like last season. Finally, I think Alexander finally managed to have a great playoff game, after disappointing playoff games of years past. He looked like the MVP, juking Panthers left and right, and finding the end zone two times, against a very good Panther D. Can the Steelers stop him, well I think they will slow him down, but I do think Alexander will rush for 80+ yards and find the endzone at least one time. So with that, I think this could go either way. The Steelers look tough and the Seahawks have played tough. Both defenses are good and both offenses are clicking. I am pulling for the Seahawks, since my good friend is living close to Seattle and they are in the same division as my Niners, but if Pitt wins, I will not be shedding too many tears, if non at all. I really just want a close, hard fought game and that is what I think it will be. The Seahawks I think got their one bad game out of their system and still won the game. So my prediction will be: Seahawks 27 Pitt 24 in a very hard fought game, with football fans being the real winners. May both teams have a great game.
Red Baron Posted January 24, 2006 Report Posted January 24, 2006 The biggest disappointment that can happen at the SB is if its a blowout. On paper it shows this could be a classic game.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 Well, the media has found their first meaningless issue to focus on, as they are currently in the process of beating this "Cowher picks the white jerseys for the Steelers" non-story into the ground.
Gert T Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 The Steelers haven't lost in the whites, the Seahawks haven't lost in the blues, something's gotta give. Uneventful story my ass........
MrRant Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 Seahawks have lost in blue the two times they took them on the road this season.
Hawk 34 Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 Well, the media has found their first meaningless issue to focus on, as they are currently in the process of beating this "Cowher picks the white jerseys for the Steelers" non-story into the ground. It's playing off the "road warrior" mentality the Steelers have adopted. ESPN is just waiting for some idiot on the Seahawks to say something stupid and that'll get the ball rolling.
Guest Vitamin X Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 I like the black jerseys better, but hey it'll still be a nice looking super bowl. Why the fuck would the Steelers have gotten the choice of having home jerseys, anyways? I thought the team with the better record going into the game got to pick.
Bored Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 No it switches conferences every year. Odd number Super Bowls NFC is home, even number Super Bowls AFC is home.

Ced Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 I don't know who to cheer for now. Pittsburgh is getting all the media hype, and seems like everyone around me is hopping on the Seattle bandwagon with the "They're the West Coast team. Close enough!" mentality. I've been giving everybody crap for that except this one guy at work, who I've seen wear his Alexander jersey frequently since the season started. I think I'm just going to root for both teams to keep it close so I don't tune out by the third quarter like most of the other playoff games this year.
Special K Posted January 25, 2006 Report Posted January 25, 2006 You know what? Know matter what happens, I'm going to be happy at the end of the SB. For years the 'Hawks were a mediocre team. They always had exciting games, but it seemed they lost EVERY close game. Tatupu has really solidified what has been a good offense for a while. Shaun is running harder than he ever has. I can't tell you how many plays this season he got met at the line of scrimmage, and inexplicably squirted forward for 5 yds. Jurevicius's great hands have given Hass the confidence he needed to be a great QB. Right now. I'm happier as a sports fan than I've ever been. I don't care how many lame Seattle cliches ESPN focuses on, I don't care if they lose, and everyone goes back to saying they're chokers. I don't even care that 50% of my workplace can't name a Seahawks player and watched last week's game. And truth be told, besides the Bengals, if the 'Hawks were going to lose to anyone, I'm glad it would be the Steelers. Go Seahawks.
Urban Warfare Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) -- New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, who has guided his team to Super Bowl titles in three of the past four seasons, will be a guest analyst during ABC's Super Bowl XL pre-game coverage. Belichick will join co-host Mike Tirico on the field in Detroit before the Seattle Seahawks play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, the network announced Monday. Host Chris Berman and analysts Michael Irvin, Tom Jackson and Steve Young will appear from the main set inside the stadium during the 31/2-hour program leading up to the game. "Bill Belichick is the perfect addition to ABC's Super Bowl XL pre-game show because he understands better than anyone the pressure and the magnitude of coaching in -- and winning -- the Super Bowl," said Norby Williamson, an executive vice president at ESPN and ABC Sports. Known for his drab, gray sweat shirts and less-than-effusive press conferences, Belichick said he accepted the invitation "as an interesting opportunity to gain a different perspective on the Super Bowl." Belichick coached the Patriots to Super Bowl titles in 2002, 2004 and 2005. His current team's season ended with a 27-13 loss against the host Denver Broncos in a divisional playoff on Jan. 13. Guest Vitamin X Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 That could either be very boring or very interesting. It'll be interesting to see what Belichick will have to offer as an analyst, given his GENIUS~ label. Oh, and they lost on Jan 14th, not the 13th. LIARS
Damaramu Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 So I just found out that I'm going to miss the Super Bowl b/c I'll be driving back from Lawrence. I have to go cover the OU/KU game.
nl5xsk1 Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 I think that Belichick doing the ABC/ESPN gig is only exciting for one reason: Belichick will join co-host Mike Tirico on the field in Detroit before the Seattle Seahawks play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, the network announced Monday. Host Chris Berman and analysts Michael Irvin, Tom Jackson and Steve Young will appear from the main set inside the stadium during the 31/2-hour program leading up to the game. Belichick allegedly still despises Jackson for his "the Patriots hate Bill Belichick" assertion after Milloy was cut & the Bills creamed the Pats. From what I've heard, the last time TJ asked Belichick for a quote/interview, Belichick just said "Fuck you" and walked away. Should be interesting to see if they interact at all.
Guest Posted January 31, 2006 Report Posted January 31, 2006 They will, but I don't think Belichick will like it.
CanadianChris Posted February 1, 2006 Author Report Posted February 1, 2006 So I just found out that I'm going to miss the Super Bowl b/c I'll be driving back from Lawrence. I have to go cover the OU/KU game. There you go...you don't have to watch Seattle after all!
