Got the Pillman disc and I love it, the main feature was real good, especially seeing footage of Pillman's lone year with the Bengals- did he ever have a football card made?

In what should be a good sign, I went to Circuit City, having read here about the price discount. I went in @ 2 and there were only 2 copies left of this DVD, while the SummerSlam/Cena package was spilling over. I asked the guy how many of the Pillman DVD’s they had in stock and he said “About the same as the other ones sitting there” (Summerslam, McMahon, and Great American Bash). Those dvd’s were largely untouched. That has to be a good sign for DVD sales. Then again, Pillman was somewhat of a local celebrity around here so that might explain it.

Yeah, this set might have the best selection of matches in relation to the subject- could've used more Hollywood Blondes matches though, I mean the one match is the subpar cage match from Slamboree (which doesn't even really involved Douglas, it was Zenk under the mask), could've put the Jan COTC match or the title switch instead. But overall a fine selection.

 

A personal fav Pillman match for me was his loss to Alex Wright at GAB 95, if only because a) I was there live and b) Pillman was the overwhelming face (the show was in Dayton, OH), I don't think ANYONE cheered for 'Das Wunderkind'.

 

And I was surprised there was zero mention of the Pillman Memorial Shows.

I'm surprised the Circuit City you went to had all that. The one I went to had nothing, I barely found the Pillman dvd. The one I went to had this small little "new release" display that had little of this week's new dvd releases's. I went over to their little section that had some wrestling dvd's and I seriously had to search for the Pillman dvd. I only found two and they were just thrown into their "special interset" section.

 

I've only gone through the main feature and I'm enjoying it. I can't wait to go through the extras.

There were only 2 Pillman DVD's left at my CC this afternoon. I picked mine up around 1, so 3 hours after opening, along with the SS/Cena 2 pack. Got all three for $30.09 with tax. What a deal!

 

I think they were so low everywhere because it's so damn cheap. 14.99? 12.99 for the SS/Cena pack? Wow.

 

I'm going to watch the Pillman feature now.

I try not to pick on customer service people because I've been there, but I seriously never have any luck at my Circuit City. The people never know what's going on and never really help, so I just got the price match at Best Buy on the Pillman disc. I already had Summerslam on Pre-order with DeepDiscountDVD.com, because I had a 5% off code that worked on pre-orders, so I just ordered the whole year's PPVs when I had that. I'm going to stick the Pillman disc in now.

Pillman's entire post-Blondes run is pretty much ignored, we don't see him til a brief clip of his attack on Flair at Fall Brawl 95. Austin just kinda says the feud of the Blondes sucked and then you get to the Horsemen.

I got mine from Amazon yesterday (it shipped Friday). Today I received an e-mail stating they will credit me $3.xx or something due to the price changing from $18-ish to $14-ish - I forget the exact numbers. That's pretty cool.

 

Watched all of disc 1, good match there with Luger. Documentary was pretty good as well. Yeah, Angle really should watch the final chapter on this one.

I was at GAB95 as well (3rd row seats), had my Hollywood Blonds sign autographed by Pillman before the show. He acknowledged me twice. Once on the way to the ring he pointed to my sign and then when he got in the ring he gave me the old Blonds movie camera move.

I was thinking the same when I was looking at the Canadian Stampede 10 man. In 1997, it was considered one of the top matches of the year and not even 10 years later, 4 of the 10 have passed (Owen, Bulldog, Pillman, Hawk).

I too can't recall much of anything Pillman did from the Hollywood Blondes until the Loose Cannon gimmick.

 

Watching this made me wonder what could have been if Pillman had lived and got himself healthy. The guy was just a madman, this stuff is still crazy and shocking to watch, especially given it was somewhat Pre Attitude Era (kind of the cusp of it). Imagine the money that could have been made off of Austin/Pillman once Austin had the title. Or maybe Pillman being courted by the Corporation, but being such a crazy loose cannon that Vince can't control him. Maybe a "reunion" of sorts with Austin once Vince gets fed up with his antics and orders a Corporation beatdown, Austin makes the save for his old partner...but can he trust him?

Like I said before, a 100% healthy "Loose Cannon" Brian Pillman feuding with Triple H & Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley in 2000, during the McMahon/Helmsley Era would've kicked all forms of ass.

I don't recall any of his matches or feuds, but I vaguely remember him being a midcard babyface called "California Brian" around 1994ish, before he turned heel again.

I was also thinking of this when the showed the 10-bell salute for Pillman. They pan by so many guys who're gone now: Hawk, Owen, Bulldog, Rude. It's really just surreal to think about it.
