spman 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2006 Why does WWE continue to waste valuable television time by giving five minutes to make two non-workers attempt to put on a match? Seriously, maybe it's just some sort of inside joke between the boys backstage and the writers, but even that's not funny anymore, it's time to retire the womens belt. That Ashley vs Torrie match last night was so bad it was astonishing. Trish Stratus and VIctoria are the only women with even an ounce of wrestling ability on the roster, and one is stuck in a rediculous lesbian angle, and Victoria is hardly even seen anymore. Even Alexis Laree who was pretty good in OVW seems to have had her ability greatly diminish as her boob size increase. Just give up on the women, it kills the live crowds, and it serves no useful purpose whatsoever. Yes, I understand that there are so many problems with WWE right now, that this kind of stuff is totally off the radar, but it's also one of the most glaring problems every week. Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted February 17, 2006 I agree with this. Either have the women just be eye candy, and in some stupid storylines... or, have them be "serious" wrestlers. Trying to be both doesn't work, and never will.

The women aren't the only ones who waste valuable TV time. I see it this way...if there weren't women's matches, there'd only be more bad sketches and bad acting to watch instead. I'd rather see a wrestling ring with idiots in it than a locker room with said idiots attempting to act.

They continue to put on the women's matches because they are a change of pace from the men's matches and they are eye candy for the male and female audience. If you're interested in watching women wrestle get your hands on some joshi puroresu. And that as they say my friends is that.
Promoter 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2006 They won't retire the women's belt right now. Trish is the HHH of the women's division and no one seems to complain or care about her long run as champ. I think she's going for Moolah's record quite frankly

A serious answer for a serious question: The reason the WWE continues to put on women's matches is because the segments get good ratings. The same reason the Al Wilson storyline went on for 4 months, and the Eddie/Rey feud over Dominic was a big part of Smackdown. In the WWE, quality constantly takes a backseat to what is considered to draw. I've seen no evidence that women's matches kill the crowd, and there's no evidence it causes viewers at home to tune out, either.

The women seem to be a ratings draw, and make money for the WWE, not to mention publicity from things like Stacy doing Dancing with the Stars. And if the women were just interviewers or valets, their visibility would be limited. So, the WWE gives the people that make them money larger roles, which ultimately include angles & actual matches. I'm more confused as to why Vince even bothers with the Cruiserweight division C-Bacon asks the million dollar question.

CanadianChick 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2006 Because girls are more likely to fall out of their top wrestling than just standing there. To be perfectly honest, it's better now than it was even 6 months ago, before Mickie debuted.
buffybeast 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2006 I watched RAW last night with a dude who is not a wrestling fan and was drunk while we watched the show. He noted the complete lack of ability the ladies had during their match. However, he kept harping on "titties and ass" the entire match. That's why WWE continues to put on women's matches, for the titties and ass.

I really think that if Vince could find a way to pull it off, he'd have the diva search go on all year. Girls falling out of their tops aplenty and more blatant sexual glorification than you can shake a stick at.

Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted February 17, 2006 And if the women were just interviewers or valets, their visibility would be limited. I disagree with that. For example, go back to the Essa Rios/Lita days. Lita got more than enough camera time, and got extremely... just standing around the ring, and occasionally hitting her shittysault on an already defeated opponent. That's all that needs to be done. I've long been a supporter of doing this nowadays. Stick random dull cruiserweights with "divas". You please the workrate lovers with the matches, and please the usual idiot fans with titties and ass. Everyone is happy. It's filler with a purpose, unlike most of the stuff today. randomguy 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2006 Jillian didn't look too bad in the one match she had on Velocity (?). Victoria is far and away the best wrestler. I can stand a Victoria match. She's 3 or 4 times better than the next best woman. Trish really doesn't look very good in the ring. The biggest problem they have is trying to make real matches that involve people like Ashley. If you want to throw her in some lame pillowfight or something that's ok, but she kills any supposedly real wrestling.
Guest Gary Busey Report post Posted February 17, 2006 Mickie James/Trish fued has been suprising entertaining. I think it's currently my favorite feud on Raw right now. CanadianChick 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2006 Ahhhh, I actually don't really think Mickie's that attractive (though really, in this case, my opinion on the matter doesn't matter much since it's not a reason why I watch girls wrestle), but she's a good actress. Granted, the character she plays doesn't make that all to hard, but still, it's refreshing to see a decent actress in WWE compared to the rest of them like Lita, Torrie, Candace, etc who couldn't act sad if their puppy got ran over. Her segment with that dude (who, by the way, is the ugliest model in the world if he is one) got more than one giggle out of me.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2006 Mickie James is not as psycho as say a Luna Vachon or a great wrestler like say Jazz but she is one of the three watchable women wrestlers of the division.
