V for Vendetta

Recommended Posts

Never have, never will. That's why I cringe whenever there's talk of making a Watchmen movie.

LXG was so unforgivably bad in so many ways. I don't understand why moviemakers take an existing property and then change EVERYTHING that made it so good in the firstg place.

Constantine was better than it had any right to be, true, but it still doesn't come near what the comic was in its prime.

They took maybe Hellblazer's best storyline, Dangerous Habits and did pretty well by it.

They took Keanu fucking Reeves, and he did a pretty good job, even though he's not Blonde, English, or a total bastard. That movie really surprised me. It didn't do the character justice, but it was really good, IMO. Not saying much, but it's some of the best acting Keanu has done.

LXG was so unforgivably horrible. I dread a Watchmen adaptation too.

If they had the littlest of balls, Miracleman could be an incredibe movie. They don't, and it's hard enough to find it to read.

V for Vendetta is honestly one of my least favorite Alan Moore stories. It's GOOD, don't get me wrong, but I think it's overrated. I'll take TOP 10 over it any day.

Promethea and Tom Strong were the only Moore books I never got into; other than that, he's guaranteed good times.

I pretty much agree with you on Constantine, but I do wonder what it might've been like if it had been set in London with, say, Jude Law playing the character.

I caught this one this afternoon, it was pretty good. The first maybe 45 minutes or so are pretty fast paced, but then it slows down a lot. The ending had be a bit puzzled due to my lack of familiarity witht he comics, but I'm sure someone will explain it eventually. Overall it was a great film, it would be worth your money to see.

I didn't quite understand what happened when he walked down the train tracks and meet up with the party members who had captured the Chancellor and bought him so V could kill him. What caused that to happen?

Watched it today and enjoyed it. I haven't read the comic in YEARS. Anyone care to fill me in as to what they added in just for the movie?

Guest Vitamin X

Also came back and highly enjoyed it. I was drinking Jager Bombs throughout the whole time though, so seeing explosions and death with some cool, somewhat cheesy rhetoric being spitted out throughout plus gawking at Natalie Portman made up for a pretty decent experience overall.

Was the V speech intact? By which I mean the corny allitteration?

As in: V, A vestibule of veal, Verily, Vermouth. Venkman. Va Vunchback of Votre Vlame. Vash the stampede. Verily . V V V ! I just thought of violin! Voila! Venison. I valso came up with some words. Veracty. Volatile.

Let's go fuck some shit up.

Yeah, there's a scene at the beginning of the movie where he gives a speech like that.

I thought the movie was great. Somewhat suprised that Warner hasn't caught more flack from right wing types over it.

But if you're like the rest of mainstream America--you support our troops, believe in firmly responding to terrorists on our own shores, and/or respect Christianity--then

I am curious how much of the graphic novel was kept in the film though.

Honestly, there was nothing inherently "right-wing" about the government in V for Vendetta, other than that it was controlled by the Conservative Party (an actual British party, and the one that was in power when the graphic novel was written). That type of stuff could happen under a left-wing government, too. If the movie wanted to be left-wing it would have made some reference to economic inequality. As it stands, I would say that V is more of a libertarian or an anarchist (or even a conservative--he wants to go back to the way things were before) than a liberal or a left-winger.

People just look for something to get upset at. This week, it's V. Who knows what it'll be next week. Hell, they had lots of people upset at X-Men 2 when it came out. People just need something to get mad about.

Wikipedia can tell a great deal of the differences between the movie and graphic novel. They include

V being killed by the Detective Finch, V's extreme anarchist views being downplayed in the movie, and a change in the order of many events

I saw this movie today and liked it a lot. I was in a state of confusion until the middle of the movie when they explained a lot.

I don't like what eventually happened to America or the world for that matter. But the movie was cool.

I think people are mixing up the concepts of what WILL happen, with what CAN happen.

There HAS to be a fascist UK for this story to happen.

So the makers of this movie could have it be TOTALLY disconnected from reality, or they could offer slight nods to current world affairs. It's called drawing the viewer in.

You'd think that post-apocalyptic, dystopic futures with tyrannical governments was such a novel concept that it just had to be about bashing the USA the way some people have responded to this movie (that one link that got posted was a good example).

I thought about seeing this but the reviews for it that I've read have just been brutal. This could wind up just being a rental for me.

If you liked the Matrix movies, you will probably like this. If you didn't, you probably won't. It's got the Wachowski Bros. fingerprints all over it.

What's funny is that from what I've seen, this movie has been getting good reviews in the USA and HORRIBLE reviews in the UK.
