TUF 3: The Thread

Recommended Posts

Hey did TUF 2 have stupid challenges with teams having to give up players? When is that coming out on DVD?

Yes it did but the "host" for the challenges was Randy Couture as opposed to Liddell's gf. You may want to skip the HW fights, as for the most part they're about as exciting as watching HW boxing...

Well I like the reality aspect of these shows too. I love to see the guys training and interacting with their coaches and I like to see how the fighters live. It's as much about that for me as it is about the fights because let's face it....there are way better fights out there and easier ways to watch them than a reality show.

UFC's store doesn't have TUF2 listed.

I'm really just getting in to the UFC and whatever, but I can honestly see Bisping being my favorite fighter. The guy is flat out hilarious.

When Ross was going over their previous fight... one of Bisping's lines to him was..."Ross, be a gentleman." In relation to lying. Still cracks me up. The fact that he's a pretty good fighter doesn't hurt either.

Bisping is awesome.

TUF 2 was crap. The challengers were awful and so were most of the challengers. The HWs were a joke. Half of them appeared to have absolutely zero skill, like we were back in UFC 1 and just being big was all some guys thought they needed.

I thought that what was the main problem with TUF 2, was that the majority of the HW's were actually blown up LHW's.

Jardine and Rashad were the best fighters in that divison, and they were actually LHW's. Which is fucking stupid considering that they desprately need star HW fighters. Brad Imes wont amount to shit in MMA, IMO.

Is it that hard to find legit HW fighters who are not tomato cans?

It was alright.

The best part of the season for me was the Rashad Evans Vs. Matt Hughes storyline, and Rashad making Matt look stupid when he beats his main man Mike Whitehead.

Yeah but was the reality aspect of the show and the interaction with the coaches and training segments any good?

I really liked the episode with the scarecrow challenge, but nothing else from that season strikes me as really memorable.

Interesting note: In this months issue of Grappling there's an article with Brandon Vera where they ask him about TUF 2. The UFC initially approached him about joining the show and he turned them down because he didn't like the contract. Most people would think that to be a mistake but the HW's in TUF 2 were so shite that they ended up asking Vera back for UFN.

Honestly even if Vera showed up it would still prove my point that UFC cannot find legit HW's who are talented.

I take nothing away from Vera, I think he's the next big thing for the UFC, but he's a LHW trying to be HW like most of the fighters in that season.

PRIDE is able to find talented legit heavyweight fighters, why can't the UFC do the same?

I think I agree with that assessment that most of the talented heavies just cut.

Like I weigh 260 right now and I'm 6'4". If I got my ass in gear I could probably walk around at 220 and cut to 205 for a fight.

If I was ultra talented I would probably want to do that to fight the bigger name competition in the LHW division rather than beating up on a bunch of fat men.

We're still at a point where the top athletes that are that size are going to have far better options. UFC wants to get athletes from the domestic front primarily. It'll take time.

Weird, given that in the future we could/will see.......

- A Canadian WW Champ

- A Canadian LW Champ

- Brazillian LHW Champ

- Brazillian MW Champ

- Bellarussian HW Champ

For a company that wants to build up domestic fighters they sure love to have foreigners as challengers.

The big payoff would be having one of the TUF kids win the belt from the forgein menace.

Bisping just looks like a tough guy.

My gf only watched the first episode of TUF and then the next episode she watched was Bisping vs. Kristian.

She saw Bisping getting into the ocatgon and said "This guy just looks like he's about to fuck someone up."

And he proceeded to do just that.

He does. He looks like a tough guy that will hurt you. I don't know what it is. He could be a soccer hooligan in another lifetime.

But if Haynes wins by some miracle I'll be very upset. I hate that guy.

Hell if Haynes get's past the 1st round it will be a miracle.

Him actually defeating Bisping is Jesus coming from the dead to help save the world.

Jesus does not approve of Josh naming his child after a pagan diety. You'd think Thor's hopsital stay would've shown him that.[/goingtohell]

I didn't like the whole "I'm fighting for my child thing!' then it makes you feel bad for rooting against him.....no wait it didn't make me feel bad.

Add British LHW Champion... Michael Bisping has all the makings to be a World Champion.

Bisping's cutting to MW afterwards. He and everybody else knows that he wouldn't stand a chance in the LHW division.

I think people are counting their chickens with Bisping a little early, though. In the two fights we've seen him in he's made enough mistakes that a veteran worth their salt would kill him. It's already been established that he can get rocked and taken down fairly easily so hopefully he's worked on the areas that need improving.

He did? Where do you guys go to read these things that the fighters say?

A middleweight though wouldn't he have a tougher time? I mean the MW division in the UFC is pretty competitive.

It hasn't been confirmed by Bisping or the UFC, just one of those assumption-type dealies. A lot of the TUF guys went up in weight to fight and most cut back to their natural class afterwards.

Diego- Cut to WW

Florian- Cut to WW then LW

Koscheck- Cut to WW

Stevenson- Cut to LW

Evans- Cut to LHW

Jardine- Cut to LHW

Considering the level of wrestling in England is pretty damn low... well, it's a good thing Bisping has a good bottom game. He has a lot of athleticism, though, so a good deal of improvement is possible. In a way, he's much like Forrest in that they're both suprisingly good considering that they come from rather unspectacular camps (I defy anyone to name another good fighter from either Straight Blast or Wolfslair).

Also, I don't think anyone is saying Bisping is ready to take on the world's best fighters, but he's already good enough to demolish many guys hanging around in the Top 25.

EDIT: Oh, and getting caught with Ross' haymaker and getting knocked off balance is hardly as bad as Robbie Lawler not checking legkicks or James Irvin having absolutely no ground game whatsoever.

Between Vera & now Bisping, I'm now convinced that the best prospects are the most likely to catch undue flack.

I mean, these two catch shit and yet Aleksander and Sam Stout are fucking world beaters? Common.

There won't be a Canadian LW champ. I think Sherk will wear that belt for years to come, except for maybe someone like Fisher taking him out. MAYBE.

WW yeah of course.

I don't see Anderson Silva being a MW champ, though he's a good matchup for Rich Franklin since Rich might not be smart enough to go for the takedown, might feel he's got to prove something.

The closest thing you'll get to a foreign champ at LHW is a Mexican-American. I hate to see it, but I don't see Babalu doing much differently than he did the last time he fought Chuck. I hope he can prove me wrong since he's a pretty sick fighter, but I don't know.

A foreign champ at HW will come to fruition in about two and a half weeks.
