Enigma 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2006 From Dave Meltzer's Sunday Update on WO.Com: Jim Ross will be lead announcer for tonight's Backlash PPV, in the place of Joey Styles. The internal decision has been finalized for Ross to take over as lead announcer on Raw, either tomorrow, or within a few weeks.

haws bah gawd 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2006 Christ. Dumbass WWE got rid of the guy because he started to suck as a commentator. So they hired Joey Styles. A guy that actually knows the names of some of the moves and doesn't call everything a "hard shot", "inovative move", or "knock down". Joey actually calls the match and explains what is going on in the ring, but Vince regrets hiring him because he DOES HIS JOB and doesn't spend the match hyping the main event for the next PPV, or how much of a bastard HHH is. So, he has him completely change his style of announcing, and as a result, his performance somewhat suffers. Through it all, Joey is still leaps and bounds above the other commentators. I guess they have to bring back JR because afterall, whats the point of doing shows in Oaklahoma if they cant do the traditional humiliation of the hometown guy in some way or another? Brilliant move Vince, oh and fuck you by the way.
RedJed 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2006 I dont see the big deal - Ross coming back to replace Styles is imminent anyway since its clear they are going full time with ECW. He'd need to get off Raw within the next month regardless. They need to get the angle going for ECW returning probably already this or next week and they might as well not waste anytime, so look at it more like that and more that Ross doesnt suck or not. Who's to say Styles still might not be announcing tonight with Lawler and Ross still? That might be alright, as they appear to be moving Coach (or considering it) over as a manager possibly. Then they can actually build a possible Styles "turning ECW" on commentary even by being pissed Ross is taking over head announcing and reverts to his "ECW style" of announcing, and hell, even openly play into reality and use the excuse of trying to be taught "WWE style" by Ross on his headsets drove him "back home." Enigma 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2006 I wonder how many times good old Jimmy will mix up Shawn Michaels and Shane McMahon tonight? Boy, what an announcer he is! That reminds me of the 2005 Royal Rumble, when he continuously kept getting Rene Dupree and Charlie Haas confused to the point where he belted out "AU REVOIR!" when Haas got eliminated. That was rather embarassing.

I actually liked the fact that Joey called the moves, told the story behind the match and not shill other matches on the card or the next ppv every other breath. They new his style before hiring him. Why make the man change?
RepoMan 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2006 I hope JR has a heart attack on the air at some point, so we don't have to listen to him ever again. It would be great if he was doing one of his psycho rants against what a bastard HHH is.

It would be great if he was doing one of his psycho rants against what a bastard HHH is. **HHH walking to the ring while his music is playing** JR: He's the Cerebral Assassin, he's the Game, he's the 10-time world champion, he's the King of King, and he's everything that people--like myself--have warned you about. He's not the greatest guy in the world, he would never be invited to my house for a cookout, but I can tell you this: the son-of-a-bitch can wrestle. He hits his opponents with sledgehammers, but he does it in a way that reminds you of the great Harley Race. I may never like him, and he may never like me, but-- **JR passes out and slumps over on the announcer's table** King: Well until JR wakes up, let me remind you that RAW is being brought to you tonight by Castrol GTX... Darth Vader 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2006 Are they going to make it Styles/Ross/Lawler? If that's the case they might want turn Jerry heel then somehow.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2006 I don't mind Ross coming back, but they just need to kill Coach. Also, the best thing to me about Ross being gone was the change in style of Lawler, he wasn't nearly annoying as he was playing the pedophile heelish announcer as a counter-part to Ross. I know Joey is leaving probably to do ECW, but still, instead of him just vanishing, why not make it a part of the ECW angle......

Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2006 Here's what I would do: Get rid of Coach, keep Joey, and make Lawler a heel again. Of course, this is the WWE, and I rarely get what I want out of them.
RepoMan 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2006 I like Coach as the heel announcer. I hope they keep him, at the very least his presence leaves less time for Lawler to talk about puppies and the like.

EricMM 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2006 This is another, huge strike against WWE in my eyes. Thats two announcers I have prefered, Heyman and Styles, that they've removed. They have their ideal formula, it doesn't work, they hire someone new, and they don't sound like the ideal forumla, so they fire them? Come on.

Only The Strong Survive 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2006 Thank God... J.R. seemed pretty okay tonight. I'm glad to have him back for good, especially for the summer so Raw isn't completely retarded while I'm watching it with my friends.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted May 1, 2006 Okay, I barely watch Raw, so based on what I've seen, my idea of Coach's commentary seems to be that he reiterates the fact that he is "the Coach" very often. Such as "I mean, come on. I'm the Coach." "You know why? Because I'm the Coach." "And that's why I'm the Coach."
BruiserKC 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2006 The conspiracy theories in my head run wild...I first wonder if Vince deliberately set up Styles to fail. After all, Styles never really fit the mold of a WWE announcer as his style was clearly the polar opposite of what JR's is. Most interesting, if JR is taking back over how will they explain it. After all, we were forced to be entertained by stuff being pulled out of "JR's" ass several months ago. Do they put him back in without a mention of what happened? Why would they bother mentioning it? You really think the casual fan even remembers this stuff? Fuck, I mean JR has been fired on-air about 10 times now. It's an annual booking pattern.
