WWE .VS. ECW.

Three matches for the WWE .VS. ECW Head to Head special have been confirmed. The matches, which can be seen live tonight on USA Network at 9/8 CT, are as follows:

WWE champion John Cena .VS. Sabu

In a battle of brawling specialists, Raw's John Cena will get a taste of the extreme atmosphere when he takes on ECW legend Sabu in one-on-one action.

World champion Rey Mysterio .VS. Rob Van Dam

Smackdown's Rey Mysterio will engage in high-risk combat with "Mr. Money in the Bank" Rob Van Dam as both men attempt to build momentum heading into One Night Stand.

20-Man Battle Royal - WWE .VS. ECW

Edge, Big Show, Mark Henry, Bobby Lashley, Carlito Carribean Cool and WWE Intercontinental champion, Shelton Benjamin are just some of the superstars that will represent WWE in the 20-Man Battle Royal. Team ECW will be represented by Kurt Angle, Terry Funk, Tommy Dreamer, Balls Mahoney, Al Snow and more as WWE and ECW battle for the first time in this type of environment.

Momentum and bragging rights will be on the line as WWE and ECW go head to head just four days before One Night Stand. Don't miss WWE .VS. ECW Head to Head tonight on USA Network at 9/8 CT.

I think I'm looking forward to Sabu/Cena the most, in hopes that it'll be an "extreme" clusterfuck of styles. I hope they have random WWE .VS. ECW matches like Balls .VS. Umaga, or CW Anderson .VS. Finlay, etc.

I just want Al Snow to be using his "Head" gimmick and I want the crowd to have those white heads as well and I want them to throw them all in. I say Al Snow goes over in the battle royal so this can happen.

Looks like kind of interesting. I've always been a Sabu mark so I'd really like to see that match and I'd really like to see how Rey vs RVD turns out. Plus Funk's in the house.

Is this going to be available for Canadians?

Will any results from this show be ruined if I read the Smackdown spoilers?

results, no. Storylines leading to Smackdown and the ppv, yes

Is it two hours or just one?

Only three matches and all.

two hours

Wonder how many wins ECW will get in the three matches for the night.

And I have high expectations for the two matches listed to be clusterfucks of epic levels.

I really think the smart thing to do tonight would be for ECW to just dominate the WWE. At least in the battle royal they should. Maybe have a few guys come out and turn on the WWE to join ECW or something. Cause right now for a brand about to start up, all of the momentum they had is dying fast.

How do you mean clusterfucks? As in the matches will be horribly bad or that they will be huge clusters with run ins galore. I think in terms of actual quality the Cena/Sabu match will likely be crappy, but RVD/Rey should be a really good match.

The problem I have is this: How the hell do you book any of it? It's easy enough to pick a guy to win a battle royale, but the two major matches are tough. Yet again they book themselves into a corner. Of the guys in those matches Sabu is really the only one who can afford to lose tonight, and even in his case they need to establish him somewhat with the WWE fans.

Either of the Champs could lose, IMO. Make them look weak before going into ONS to retain their titles, because face-it, ECW isn't taking either of those titles and they'll probably want to bring back their own anyway.

Run-ins. Lots of run-ins. I imagine the non-battle royal matches will end as no contests.

And the battle royal will be won by Kurt Angle. He's the new face of ECW, but he's still perceived as WW_ talent. It's win/win. Except for the ECW fans. What would be worse would be Orton winning by ousting Angle at the end. So expect that to happen instead.

RVD/Rey will start the show... so, yeah, non-finish coming.

Lots and lots of run-ins to the point of annoyance.

And yeah, I don't understand how they can come out good in any of the matches. If Rey loses to RVD, he'll need a big win on Smackdown which odds are he won't get. If RVD loses, no one is going to believe he can beat Cena. Sabu can lose to Cena as long as he gets some kind of impact on Smackdown, course he may not even show up on Smackdown so I have no clue. And Cena can't lose to Sabu, since that would be the E putting their boy down.

They just need to establish Sabu as suicidal and they'll be fine.

That RVD vs Rey match is a nightmare since no one can come out of it looking good with a loss.

I would book Sabu to go over Cena after the odds become far too great for the guy, and for RVD/Mysterio I'd let it go to a no-contest or something, with both looking really strong.

Vivisectvi, I disagree on this. Heyman has flat out gone out and said that should RVD and/or Sabu win his respective match and belt then they are going to make it the ECW title. I mean good grief, how many advantages do they need? They have the fans, the arena, the rules all on their side. So one of the two needs to win.

It would be horrible beyond words to job BOTH RVD and Sabu at that PPV. I mean plane crash into the mountain level bad. It wouldn't hurt Sabu that much to lose to Rey if he wipes himself out after attempting some insane move.

If they dare job out RVD at that show they can forget anyone watching the new ECW. Or doing the PPV again. I'm expecting some slightly dubious finish where RVD wins, but then leaves room enough for a Dusty Finish where Vince will in the end give the WWE belt back to Cena and RVD will go to ECW as their world champ.

I think RVD wins the title... then loses it at Vengeance in probably some type of 3-way. Remember that Edge is already guaranteed a shot at whoever the champion is. Even if it's changed to the ECW title.

Only three matches and all.

45 minutes of SEE NO EVIL commercials, RAW Rewind, Smackdown Rebound, and recaps of Vince crying over Shane...

This will be the first time I'll watch an entire wrestling show since the night after the Invasion ppv in July 01, if it sucks then thats it. I'm giving WWE one chance to make ECW real again, if they fail just one time, they're dead to me. Dead.

It'll be a double-pin. Both guys pin each other at the same time, the ECW ref gives the belt to RVD, and Vince is all "ties go to the champion!" so the belt essentially splits.

No, the double pin is always a really shitty idea and I'm telling you...this crowd will not accept anything but a (seeming) RVD win. Someone else hit on the idea that there will be a WWE ref for that match, he'll get bumped, and then an ECW ref will end up making the 3 count for RVD.

From what I'm seeing here RVD isn't scheduled for Vengeance or any Raw shows after ONS. This is it for him. That scenario above keeps the sanctity of the WWE title (Vince would simply say that an ECW ref counting 3 wasn't a valid title change, but that RVD would be recognized as the ECW champ).

If they DO go with the lame double pin idea then I think they have to have RVD be the initiator of the finishing move. As in he catches Cena with a belly to back suplex, both men's shoulders are down, etc. That'd be kind of anticlimactic though after a barrage of Van Daminators, F-Us, Van Terminators, etc.

Seeing as how ONS is probably going to be over-booked in the title matches, maybe it would have been better to have the WWE vs. ECW show AFTER the PPV, like, in order to tie-up loose ends, and screw jobs, FROM THE PPV. As we have it now, there will probably be screwjobs in tonights matches, and then again on Sunday, so it accomplishes nothing. Well I guess it makes an opening for the ECW ressurgence, but I mean really, Vince should have either Sabu or RVD take a title to ECW, because to me that makes for a better startup for ECW, then "Man I got screwed, so I am leaving for ECW"

PWInsider is reporting that more WWE vs. ECW matches are scheduled for tonight's show than have been announced.

They can do both.

Ref bump, ECW ref runs in, double-pin, he counts Cena's shoulders as down, RVD is presented the belt and everyone goes home happy.

The next night on RAW the dispute comes in, with Vince saying that HIS ref counted RVD down, so the belt is still Cena's.

I'm not saying it's a good idea, I just think that's what they'll do, since they want an ECW champ, but they prolly don't want to turn the ACTUAL WWE title into the ECW belt, and leave RAW with no title.
