Ultimate Fight Night V

Recommended Posts

Here's the full card, from what I heard.

-Stephan Bonnar vs. Rashad Evans

-Anderson Silva vs. Chris Leben

-Luke Cummo vs. Jonathan Goulet

-Josh Koscheck vs. Dave Menne

-Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves

-Jorge Gurgel vs. Mark Hominick

-Justin Levens vs. Jorge Santiago

This has potential to be the best UFN yet. I'm PUMPED for Silva and Leben, that could be an all out war. GO SILVA GO!

Leben gets knocked out or submitted or Silva gets the same..just anything but another decision in a Leben fight!

I don't think Leben get's KO'd but I could see him getting stopped by cuts.

I'm going with Anderson by dominating UD, by blooding and bruising Leben bad.

The main event definitely has that "wow" factor, but not because I'm expecting a good fight. It seems like they've almost given up on Rashad, and putting him in with Bonnar - who tries hard to have exciting fights - is a last ditch effort to get him over.

I don't get why people think Rashad isn't exciting.

I enjoyed his fights with Imes and Jardine. The Jardine fight was a war. I think Rashad has a great chance to upset Bonnar, just look at the Jardine fight. Even should he lose, I think it will only improve him and help him to become a better fighter. He's proven to have heart in the Jardine. And he's been fighting alot of fighters alot bigger then him. He's training the BJJ so he will improve.

The issue with Rashad, as I see it, is that he's a project with loads of potential. The best comparison the UFC has is probably Josh Koschek. In both cases (and I suppose in Matt Hamill's case as well), you have wrestlers trying to transition to MMA.

With Josh, the development has been pretty damn impressive. With Rashad... not as quick, but since he's got a guaranteed contract, they're probably expecting more out of him. Right now he's pretty much a LnP guy who's got some impressive takedown ability, and he could be so much more.

Yeah Rashad has loads of potential. His stand-up is pretty good also, he just lacks the one punch KO power and being able to finish off the opposite fighter. He could've easily finished Imes off the in the 1st round. But it's a learing experence.

I remember during the Hoger fight they mentioned Rashad was working with some BJJ expert since winning the contract, I forget who they mentioned. But your right with the Koschek comparsions.

What is everyone's predictions on the Leben/Silva fight? I'm putting my money on Silva.

I wasn't saying that's how it's going to end. I was just saying I want it to end in something besides a decision. I'd also like the fight to be something other than Leben's boring ground and pound. I mean G&P can be exciting...but Leben's isn't.

I don't really want to make a solid choice between Leben/Silva, because they're both good and yet so flawed as to make a number of things possible.

Anderson via Unanimous JD is the safest best.

Leben actually doesn't have the power many people think he does. As I've mentioned a few times now, it comes more from the fact that he's a southpaw who unleashes blind punches on guys too busy hitting his exposed chinned. Whenever someone doesn't actively engage him in such a manner (Koscheck, Florian, Luigi), he struggles. I think Anderson's too seasoned a striker to fall into that trap, though he'll struggle to dent Chris' chin before he can get a takedown (assuming he goes for it).

If you want to promote discussion, you have to answer the "why".

I think Silva is a smarter fighter, and I don't think Leben has the submission skills to catch him.

Anderson has just as strong of chin as Leben does, and Leben does not have one punch power(Like Lei Tong already explained) to KO Anderson.

Either way, as an Anderson Silva fan, even I am optimistic about this fight as Leben is a tough fighter. But I favor Anderson.

There's something about Leben's look that intimidates me. It did when I first saw him too. I can't put my finger on it.

I don't think it has to do with his look more of his personality. He has that "I don't give a fuck who it is, I'll fight who ever any time any place" type atittude.

What's funny about it is a guy that I'm friends with looks like Chris Leben(w/o the red hair) and has the excat same atittude.

Maybe its his big caveman style head.

It's still not as big as Tito's. His head is a virtual planetoid. Has it's own weather system.

It will go the full 3 rounds and bump the Cummo and Koscheck fights off the show.

I won't mind those fights aslong as we get to see Gurgel Vs. Hominick!

Silva by Cut Stoppage sounds most likely to me, though if Leben learns some whacky submission he could take it.

And Reshad has no aggression or killer instinct, period. He looks like he's doing a crossword puzzle (and not a hard one, something like PEOPLE's) rather than being in a fight (and not in the cool Fedor way).

Coupla weeks until MMAdness begins and this is one of the shows we'll be seeing.

When: June 28th

Where: Hard Rock Casino (Boo-erns)

Main Event: Chris Leben vs Anderson Silva

Stephan Bonnar vs Rashad Evans

Rumoured/Unconfirmed fights:

Jonathan Goulet vs Luke Cummo

Josh Koscheck vs Dave Menne

Mark Hominick vs Jorge Gurgel

Thiago Alves vs Jon Fitch

Justin Levens vs Jorge Santiago

With Leben/Silva, Bonnar/Rashad already on the card and assuming Hominick/Gurgel gets added this card is already miles ahead of the last UFN. UFC is testing Rashad hardcore and it's even to the point where I think they want to see him get his ass stomped in. Leben's getting a test too but this isn't an unwinnable fight for him either.

So how good is Bonnar? I was unimpressed with his last fight.

The last UFN wasn't too good but this one does look good.

I hope Kos makes it onto the show though.

Depends on who you talk to about Bonnar. I'd say he's solid all-around in terms of standup, ground and conditioning. Rashad is a very good wrestler but I don't see him hurting Bonnar with GNP or threatening with a submission. Rashad's boxing wasn't terrible against Sam but Bonnar's hands and feet are light-years beyond anything Rashad posseses.

In short this is Bonnars fight to lose.
