Damnit why does this happen to shows I don't watch? The Critic supposedly drew great ratings for years when Comedy Central aired it, why not bring that back?

I'm pretty sure The Critic is still in reruns on Comedy Central, all 25 or so episodes. They're on at like 3 a.m., though.

Guys, Futurama wasn't that good.

Really excited about this. I can only hope Futurama's return is handled better than Family Guy's was. I honestly believe that Futarama was regularly more entertaining than the Simpsons at its peak.

Seconded.

I've already said it in like every Futurama thread, so what's one more

It's one of those shows that no matter how hard I try, I cannot set aside time to watch it. The only time I ever watched Futurama was when I had to watch Family Guy on Adult Swim before I got the DVDs, and they spent like a year dicking around with the schedule flip-flopping Family Guy and Futurama in the 10 and 10.30 spots, and if it was a Futurama-then-Family Guy month and I didn't feel like changing the channel, whatever, I'd watch. I never found it hysterical or consistently great; it's just kinda there.

I'd put it in a distant 4th among Fox cartoons behind the best years of The Simpsons, the original run of Family Guy, and The Critic. I think a lot of the love or nostalgia for it seems to be because Matt Groening was involved with it during that first big Simpsons nosedive, so it just seemed that much better by comparison. It's too gimmicky to really be in the same league as the others.

EDIT: It's 5th. King of the Hill was funny for a few years too.

King of the Hill? I have never onced laughed at the show. For a show like that to have lasted this long has got to be a sign of the coming apocalypse.

I guess you have to know those kinds of people, Texas or elsewhere, for it to resonate

I wasn't much a fan of the series when it was on or even when it came to DVD. The praise it got from people about being better than The Simpsons just amplified my feelings. I've watched a few episodes on Adult Swim and it's better than I remember, but it's still not a show I'm gonna dance a jig to in celebration of its revival.

Yeah, this is true. King of the Hill did have a few "laugh out loud moment" but it was more of an intellectual/situation comedy as opposed to something like family guy (not taking away from it, just saying its different).

Alot of the comedy came from Hanks dealing with family life and the world around him. And thats not overlooking his friends and family who had many humourous moments too.

I think its a show I enjoyed as I got older. When I first watched it years ago when it started, I didn't think it was that funny as I was just looking for those "laugh" moments. That and as it was from Mike Judge, I was expecting something more along the lines of Beavis and Butthead.

I havent watched it regulary since the first season but it desereves another shot so good news I guess

I wish The Critic would come back, I dont even think there have been any reruns on lately. (should get the dvd)

But what network would "The Critic" have been put on?

Comedy Central cancelled it, ABC cancelled it, FOX cancelled it and UPN dropped it before it aired a new episode. I love the show and I own the DVD set, but it became obvious it just wasn't going to make it. Unless Cartoon Network decides to sweep up the remains from Comedy Central and it becomes a new huge hit, I think it's safe to say "The Critic" is dead and buried.

Which sucks, because we need more of Jay's dad Franklin NOW!

It's Official: Futurama Returns!

Fry and the gang will be back for at least 13 new episodes on Comedy Central.

by Eric Goldman

June 23, 2006 - Futurama fans can finally celebrate, as a long rumored revival of the series is going forward. For several months now there had been word that the show -- which ran on FOX from 1999 to 2003 -- could be coming back, particularly after the return of animated favorite Family Guy and a last minute renewal/return of King of the Hill seemed to prove there was an increasing confidence in the overall fandom and long term prospects for series of this type. Earlier this year, Futurama voice actor Billy West actually stated on his website that the show's return was a done deal, only to recant the statement. However, he did continue to say something was in the works, whether it be more episodes or direct-to-DVD movies.

Now we have official and definite word the show itself will be returning, with 13 brand new episodes set to air on Comedy Central. Like Family Guy, Futurama proved its popularity and earned its return thanks both to DVDs and also to repeats on Cartoon Network. Apparently there had been some negotiations needed in order to secure the return of the cast, but that is now resolved and all of the major voice over talent, including West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio will return to tell new tales about Fry, a pizza delivery boy who ends up 1000 years in the future.

The deal to produce new episodes of Futurama goes in tandem with Comedy Central's acquisition of the 72 previously produced Futurama episodes, after Cartoon Network's current deal ends. Fans shouldn't exactly hold their breath in anticipation, since Comedy Central will not be airing either the old or any of the new episodes until 2008.
