OAO ECW TV Week 3 Thread - June/27th/2006.

If WWE hadn't burned so many bridges with talent like the Dudley Boyz and Rhino, this new ECW would be alot better. As it is, the current fanbase WWE wants to appeal to is only familiar with guys like Rob Van Dam and haven't been given any type of reason to care about new talent like Roadkill and the F.B.I.

Well, the good thing is, with a good match they totally got the crowd into it, and made them forget all about Cena.

edit- Well damn...that kiss really was Rated R.

Ha, final words of the night, "He's a Son of a Bitch"

Holy cow, I can't believe RVD just went over fucking Kurt Angle clean (I loved it btw). That did a lot for the guy, and was great booking since it doesn't hurt Kurt at all, and also plants the seeds for an extended feud between the two.

New talent? FBI and Roadkill are hardly new talent..

This is not ECW's money match IMO - not unless they get away from a goddamn WWE TV style of working it. Thats the only problem I have with this match, I feel like I'm watching it from Raw years ago.

WTF are they doing w/ Angle? I give them props for giving Van Dam some strong credibility, but its at the expense of him like that? I just dont see the value in putting Angle over him so cleanly if there is any chance of them building a real main event program with those two. With that said, I wasnt feeling Angle/RVD there at all and hope they reconsider a feud with the two down the road. I think they'd be better off getting a strong heel to take the belt from Van Dam at some point, and have Angle chase whoever that would be to get the belt down the road. But they need a strong heel for this role, and nobody is even close to ready at this point. CM Punk maybe long term, but thats going to take awhile as things are now.

This might seem obvious, but I don't personally feel like there was any reason for Edge to be there tonight, since he didn't even interfere DURING the match. Was he just there as a last ditch attempt to get those few extra WWE fans to watch?

Oh and the Main Event was good, nothing like taking a dead crowd and making them get into the match by putting on a hell of a match. Kudos to Van Dam and Angle.

JustJoe, I'm not tired of him at all. In fact, I want Edge in the Main Event scene for years to come. I love this character.

It was an ok match, but I just didnt feel it was that great, and the Edge spear at the end was just dull. But to each their own. Maybe this is the best I can expect out of the product at this point.

From PWInsider:

The obese stripper who was caned by The Sandman on ECW on Sci Fi was potrayed by WWE Creative Team member Christopher DeJoseph.

Are all creative team members fat and gay?

I think Angle's loss tonight may be the catalyst for him totally snapping and becoming full blown heel. Maybe they tease it for a couple of weeks, then he costs RVD the match at SNME.

It's the Patterson influence I suppose. How else do you account for the male strippers and constant male asses all over TV lately?

That Angle/RVD match was a good match almost in spite of itself. Angle did a lot of his matwork ground stuff and usually in an RVD match that is death to watch. I was thinking that they needed to do some vicious chair type spots or fight around outside the ring a bit, that'd make it a more ECW style match.

You know what is truly hilarious though? Some of these ads on Sci Fi. I mean an ad for metal detectors? An oxygen tank for that old dude? And of course the Girls Gone Wild commercial, which made me for some reason think of that PPV where Test was a guest....and then followed immediately by the promo for Test!

Just finished the show:

Anyway, the good:

-Sabu/Roadkill was an excellent spotfest, and it didn't feel like a rehash since Roadkill's got natural "big guy" credibility and they worked a little longer match. Excellent opener.

-The RVD/Angle main event was well worked. I really liked the spot where Angle refused to break the ankle lock because.....there are no DQs in ECW! Why would anyone ever break a hold in the ropes.

The bad:

-This Kelly thing's getting really old. Really old. A bait and switch works once, maybe twice, but now? We all know she's getting naked, so what's the point? Are we really that desperate that we want to see some mediocre blonde do the worst dancing we've ever seen?

-Dreamer/Big Show. Also, the exact same thing as last week. At the very least, they could have had Dreamer say "Show could do better than that" or something. This ached of just stretching the storyline longer without developing it at all.

-Did they really need to treat Doring like such a jobber? I get they wanted Knox to have a win in his debut, but they could have at least made a competitive match out of it. Basically, the message is that anyone who didn't wrestle in ECW > anyone who did except for RVD and Sabu.

-Rope breaks, the referee counting Knox out when he was outside the ring. Umm, hello? Is it that hard to adjust to the ECW rules? They're pretty simple. If there's a pinfall, you count it, and if there's a submission, you ring the bell. The rest of the time, you sit there and watch. There are no DQs and no countouts. Even in the opening spotfest, they had two rope breaks.

-The fat stripper. If they really want to waste Sandman squashing lame gimmicks, I can almost accept that, but do they really need to use the same guy that was on Raw last week? It totally ruins the illusion that the brands are separate. If they want to keep this going, you know what they should do? Bring in a WWE jobber every week, and say that he's "debuting". Sandman canes the fuck out of him, he decides he doesn't want to be in ECW and goes crying back to Heat or Velocity the next week.

-The camera work. Having a camera behind the plant so we can watch Kelly strip for him? Fucking weak. Looked waaaay too rehearsed. Also, did we need 5000 shots of Edge and Lita during the main event? It basically just says "don't worry about the ringwork, Edge is gonna run in anyway". It kind of made the match a little anticlimactic.

Basically, I'll keep watching because I love the way that RVD and Sabu are working right now, but there's a ton of stupid shit they're doing that hurts the show that would all be really easy to fix. I don't mind Edge or Cena showing up occasionally, but please stop making the show come off like a bad WWE clone.

I rather liked tonight's show, but like everyone else said it felt recycled. Last week's show wasn't bad by any stretch, but I don't want to see it every single week.

And I don't know why, but I have a feeling CM Punk will debut next week. I got no evidence to back that up, but who knows? It may happen.
