UFC 62: Babalu Vs. Liddell...

Recommended Posts

Mir still looked like he had a stomach when he was sitting there at the PPV. I mean he didn't look like he was pregnant like at the last PPV but he wasn't exactly sporting a six pack.

Well for what its worth, Goldberg said that he saw Mir at the weigh ins and he was "in very good shape" so maybe Mir realised he needed to get his ass in shape? Or maybe the announcers were just talking to talk.

He is gaining the weight so he can match up with Tim Slyvia. You know both Frank Mir and Chuch Lindell think by growing beer bellys they can challenge Tim Slyvia for the Heavyweight title. Hell let Bonnar gain some weight and let him go 3 rounds with Tim Slyvia...its not like the Heavyweight division is worth a damn anyways.

Also I need to figure out how to get a body like Kongo. The dude is my height but the fact that he had absolutely 0 body fat made him look like he was 8 feet tall.

How to get a body like Kongo's:

750-1000mgs of Test E

500 mgs of Equipose

25-50mgs of Dianabol

1000ius of growth hormone

some insulin

IGF-3

All this at least twice a week. You will look like Kongo in no time.

A lot of people at my bar were crying foul and saying that the Liddell/Sobral match was stopped prematurely.

Then they saw that Sobral had no idea where the fuck he was and it quieted down.

Did anyon think that on first glance before you saw that he didn't know where he was?

But if you over do it you might look like Bob Sapp.

I'm actually suprised McCarthy let it go on that long. Babalu got his head bounced off the mat a few times before he finally lurched over and played dead.

Yeah McCarthy let it go on alot longer than I thought he would. This is one situation where I cannot see how anyone would say it was stopped permaturely.

That's because the Mandalay Bay Event Center isn't BYOB...

One of the tards behind me was like "He was rolling over to regroup!" Then he shut his mouth when everyone surrounded Babalu and he didn't know where the fuck he was.

McCarthy always lets fights go long.

I'll have to echo it again though.....what the fuck was Babalu doing?

Well, those Brazillians have notorious chins. He was probably rocked and didn't really know where he was at...Remember Gideon Ray vs. Mike Swick??

I mean what the fuck was he doing as far as his strategy goes? He didn't even try to take Chuck down. He just rushed in with an odd looking flurry. Even Chuck was surprised by it.

And back to Kongo. Have any of the hardcore MMAers here seen him in anything else?

Maybe that was his strategy, Dama. Chuck seems Babalu rush in and try to swing with him, Chuck gets confused, maybe starts laughing, and BAM! Knockout, new light heavyweight champ.

I noticed watching the PPV that John McCarthy looks like Ben Affleck with his goatee.

Straight from the Observer site:

Thumbs down. Sobral just looked like a little fat guy they built up. Bonnar-Griffin was a boring bar fight, given fuel to the Lampley's of the world. Neer suspiciously made no attempt to fight back.

worst fight---Liddellv Sobral mismatch

Best fight----Shafer

Mike Devlin

I really don't know where to begin. Granted, it wasn't as wild as their first fight, mainly due to Griffin being so much better than Bonnar and so there was a disparity in talent levels this time around, but I don't in what universe the fight could be called boring.

Eh fuck Meltz. This was an entertaining PPB. Match of the night was Diaz and Josh Neer (just for the extended asskicking Diaz gave him) or the Thiago/whats his name fight. Seriously though a thumbs down is kinda fucked up, and just cause Babalu got beat by Chuck doesn't make him any less of a fighter. Does Babalu hold a win over Shogun?

Meltzer didn't say those things. Someone else did.

I haven't seen many MMA fights, but has there been a pussy run worse than the one Verner did against Franca? I've never seen a man move that fast with his back turned from an opponent after getting hurt in an MMA fight.

Its not just Canadians. Off the top of my head I remember Tito Ortiz running like a scared puppy dog from Wandy back at like UFC Japan...

I really like the idea of taking points away from fighters for running. There's a world of difference between backing up to get your head straight and turning tail and giving the guy your back. I've seen fights called by the ref for that reason as a lot take it as akin to a verbal tapout.

My favorite part of the night was when after Chuck KO'd Babalu and McCartney laid on top of him to stop the fight, Babalu thought Big John was Chuck and continued to grapple with him and roll him over. Even better, Big John actually mounted him before the camera cut away :)

I almost felt like that after Babalu managed to get a couple of shots in at the beginning, he got over excited and rushed in instead sticking to whatever gameplan he originally had.

Curry, I like the idea too but do you think McCarthy should be able to step in when one guy is CLEARLY on his way to being KO'd?? Like really I thought Alves was about to get fucked out of a win because the other dude had at least 30 seconds to recover...they should be able to remove the point and keep the fight going at least...

Franca, not Alves.

I'm pretty sure it's in the rule book that if a fighter is getting penalized a point the ref must stop the action to tell him so. Most cases of it involve a standup or stopping whatever's going on.

I'm aware of the rules, i'm just saying its a bullshit rule that should be changed. A fighter knows going in what is a foul and what isn't...if you commit one purposely you should already know thats a point deducted and keep fighting. Giving dude a break just isn't right.
