oAo ECW on Sci-Fi Week 12 Thread - 8/29/2006

They were expecting a lower rating. No need for sarcasm, Karc.

I'm dead serious. I don't understand wrestling, I'm not a wrestling fan. Why were they expecting a lower rating? Why are they content that the rating keeps dropping week after week? I need a remedial guide to this stuff, because I can't see it.

I expected the rating to be even lower considering the main event featured Paul Heyman.

He meant 4 hours of Raw+1 ECW.

And Karc, WWE thought the rating would be lower because the first run Raw programming was on Sci-Fi, which is in less homes, so they thought there would be less people being sold on ECW the next night or some nonsense.

1 hour of Dana White saying "Do You Want to be a Fighter!?", 50 minutes of Sugar Ray saying "You Wanna to be a Contender" , and 10 minutes of Larry Zybrisco saying "Duh.....chess...."

From PWInsider:

ECW ON SCI RATING

by Dave Scherer @ 6:17:00 PM on 8/30/2006

Last night's edition of ECW On Sci Fi did a 1.9 cable rating, with a 3 share. That is down from last week's 2.3. It should be noted that WWE was expecting a 25% drop in the number since Raw did not air in its usual spot on USA this week and the show dropped just 17%. It should also be noted that this is a notoriously bad week for TV viewing with parents getting ready to send their children back to school and older kids getting ready to return/returning to college. It also shows that Raw's promotion of ECW on Monday night does send viewers to the show, since both were down this week by a similar margin. The show did quarters of 1.9, 1.8, 1.7, 1.9 and 2.0.

So DX is gonna be on next week. You know, its gonna be harder and harder to estabish ECW as a serperate brand if they keep pulling shit like this all time time.

I'm sure DX vs. The Big Show is exactly what Paul Heyman & Tommy Dreamer were thinking when they pushed the idea of relaunching ECW.

I'm sure ECW will break away from the Raw-Lite crap soon enough

Hey, the past couple of weeks, it was all ECW stuff!

I'm just thinking Vince wants to baby walk ECW into it's own.

I'm sure by time the December PPV comes around, ECW will have more established workers and more storylines going on that doesn't include SD or Raw. Hell, I expect, some ECW stuff on Smackdown when CW launches.

Someone needs to make a jell-o box that says Sarcasm instead of Jell-o. MAKE IT HAPPEN.

I just don't like the idea of seeing huge names like Triple H, Flair, Undertaker and the likes of them on ECW because it feels like I'am watching just another WWE show when its not suppost to be that way when I'am watching ECW. And with them on the show it'll make the regular ECW talent like Sabu, Dreamer and Sandman look weak when you got these big names stars taking up their Main-Event spot. and it pisses me off.

maybe I'am just being picky.

The ratings were fine from the begining, even after the first Raw crossover ended, and RVD lost the belt to TBS. They've had good ratings for Sci-Fi. The Raw Crossovers now are ignorant.

It made sense with Edge and Cena and that whole deal at first because they had beef with RVD, and he would also be on Raw, and ECW dudes would sit in the crowd.

The Big Show going to Raw, and DX coming to ECW are both stupid ideas. But fuck it, I'm sure we'll get something entertaing out of it all.

Isn't the company that owns those stations pretty much telling them they want Raw guys on the ECW show? I'm pretty sure that's part of the situation.

The coolest thing would be for RVD and Sabu to do a run-in and beat the crap out of Big Show, then they do a face-off against DX since they don't want RAW guys taking up their ECW main event time.

Punk/Richards was the only decent match on this week's show. CM Punk is consistantly producing good matches on an otherwise lacklustre ECW brand.

I really thought they had begun to move on from this ECW/Raw crossover crap, but next weeks 'proposed' ECW main-event(which we all know DX will accept) shattered any illusions I had about that.

Hey, the past couple of weeks, it was all ECW stuff!

That's IF you consider Big Show, Matt Striker, Bob Holly, Renee Dupree, CM Punk, Shannon Moore, Torrie Wilson, Test, Kelly Kelli, Mike Knox, Ariel, and Kevin Thorn to be "ECW stuff". Mighty big IF, there.

That would be cool. And it could setup a tag match for ppv later.

It's only cool if you think there's a chance in hell of either HHH or HBK actually laying down for Sabu or RVD. Otherwise, no matter how good the match is, it's Just Another Frustrating Klique Squash. Plus, most WWE crowds would boo the shit out of anyone who fights D-X, and do we really want the office to have any less confidence in the drawing power of the "original extremists" than they already do?

People were saying that the Raw/Smackdown interaction with ECW would stop after Vengeance. If anything, it's increased x3. If you really believe that the interaction will ever die down, I have some beachfront property in Antarctica to sell you.

Total exaggeration. It hasn't gotten any worse than it was when Vengeance was being promoted. For a few weeks there wasn't nearly as much real interaction. Not to be an apologist, but really, be objective. Now then, next week will probably be the worst case yet because you know that DX is going to be slathered all over the show like JR's BBQ sauce.

I was objective. I was very excited about wwECW after the One Night Stand PPV. I made it a point to have that TV on Sci-Fi at 10pm on June 13. But after 4 weeks of a show that shouldn't have the letters "ECW" anywhere near it, wwECW was officially stamped a piece of shit by me. I watched the 8/1 Hammerstein show, but only because I wanted to see how the crowd would react. I've just been reading recaps since with very meager hopes something will change.

With that being said, how can you say the WWE/"ECW" interaction didn't get any worse after Vengeance? Big Show ended up defending the wwECW Title against completely abritrary people from Raw & Smackdown like Ric Flair, The Undertaker, Kane, & Batista. Kane & Batista were completely random with no story behind it at all. All the UT match served was a backdrop behind the UT/Khali feud. Same for Flair's match serving as a build-up for Flair/Foley. It was never that bad when RVD was wwECW Champion, and when he did fight Raw/SD people, there was at least somewhat of a solid story behind it.

wwECW is a product that absolutely shits all over my memories of ECW. I would be fine with it and probably enjoy it if they'd call it something else. But when you whore out ECW's corpse and prostitute it for a buck, that's not exactly going to appeal to a fan of ECW since 1994. I can't erase from my mind what I remember ECW being, so obviously when you say "We're bringing it back!" and have it be completely different from the original, people like me are going to shit all over it. Deal with it.

No, I'm not asking for a complete duplication of the angles and storylines. The feeling is not there. Having this bullshit taped at a WWE event is absolutely retarded. 75% of what made ECW so special was the environment itself, and the product that actually reflected that environment and played off of it. wwECW forces the crowd to adapt to what they want, which is the WWE way. ECW adapted itself to what its fans wanted. When ECW said "Experience the Difference," that is the fucking difference.

In other words, when I think ECW, I don't think DX vs. The Big Show all the while Balls Mahoney jobs to fuckin Mordecai. It's bolony.

What's so frustrating is that it was right there for the picking and could have been capitalized on, but it won't be. I'm almost wishing this show had never been picked up for Sci-Fi and instead stayed at either the Saturday night/2am USA timeslot or a WWE.Com show.

And please, don't come at me with the same old "Well if you don't watch it, shut up." I don't have to watch it, as long as I know the basis of what's going on. It's not like a WWE product is so detailed and deep that it has to be watched to completely grasp. I enjoy discussing wrestling with people and giving my viewpoints. That doesn't mean I have to ocularly consume it.
