OAO Raw Thread - September/4th/2006.

Recommended Posts

I must say that was one of the better Raw's that have taken place this year. The Main Event got a lot of TV time and there was limited DX/McMahon garbage...

Also I think the Cryme Time gimmick is awesome. If used in the right way, it cold seriously attract more African American fans.

You can't be serious. I am black and I was offended by that whole promo. It was racist and very stupid!!

It was meant to be stereotypical. Get the bug out of your ass. If you enjoy Chris Rock, or Chapelle, or any thug black rappers then you're a hippocrite.

Actually I don't...you would be surprise that most black people look down on stuff like that..including ME!! It's racist and dumb.....can a "black" wrestler debut in wrestling without having some racially stupid gimmick attached!!!

Some of you may be surprise but I'm not one of your "gangsta" black guys!!!

If they want a black demographic, bring back the original "Gangstas"- New Jack and his partner. Have them just be bad asses that legitmately kick ass and do sick spots.

Bad comedy (Crymetyme) will never get over bc #1. Almost everyone hates 'niggas'

and doesnt find that stuff funny #2. If Cena gets boo'ed, just wait till this gimmick hits. It'll be 100 times worse.

"Almost everyone hates Niggas".........You're so damn ignorant.

Those "niggas" sell millions of record each and are on top of the charts for record sales all the time.

The original Gangstas can't wrestle a fuckin lick. Why would we want them back?

Ok, that was easily, EASILY... The best episode of Raw this year. It's like they were afraid people would be tuning into the US Open, and didn't want to be embarrassing themselves with horrible tv. With McMahon/HHH taking over the spotlight again next week, I doubt this will be a recurring theme, but it was nice to see what Raw could be with all the talent they have. A refreshing change of pace to say the least.

Edge's opening promo was good. Perfect type of promo for his character. Cena's involvement was breif and effective. Catching a 230ish pound man jumping off a ladder takes real strength.

Hardy/Nitro was one of the best Raw tv matches all year. I dare say it was SD-quality. Good bulid, selling, and unique offense. Ending was cheap, but I was expecting as such. Had to save this one for ppv, and it should be a good one. Good way for Nitro to regain some heat after that abyssmal promo last week, which everyone seemed to be making fun of this week.

The backstage segment to set up the ME was well done. Short, concise, but accomplished exactly what it needed to.

Super Crazy beating Chris Masters clean = Awesome. Definitely one of the Masterpiece's finer matches as well.

The real tell tale sign that this Raw was great was the fact that I found a DX/McMahons segment passable. It didn't take forever and featured no lame attempts at "comedy."

The 3-way tag was good, short tv fun. Murdoch stole the show with his stiff strikes and taking a German suplex in a way that would make Kobashi or Misawa proud. Highlanders could've used more offense, but that's a minor complaint.

The Flair return blended into the Umaga/Kane feud was predictable, but acceptable. Gives tv time to a feud that could be using more build, so no complaints here.

Cryme Tyme was hilarious. The over the top cheesy voice over made the skit.

The ME got lots of time and was fun, hot match. Good heelery by Edge and Orton, while Carlito played the face in peril pretty well. Cena looked fired up, and I think everyone was feeding off the crowd. Trish and Lita had a good exchanges, and as a nice bonus, were wearing the low-cut pants as well. Good finish that makes the heels look like bastards and keeps everyone on the faces looking ok.

Wow, I actually enjoyed typing that. See, I really want to enjoy Raw, but the underachieving that show has done all year has been disheartening. Tonight was a very welcome change of pace. The matches were good, the promos were efficient, lots of guys got exposure, and Unforgive was hyped well. I hope more Raws start to look like this one.

Let's also remember that TNA is basically doing the same thing but with latino gangbangers instead. The only difference is that TNA's version are viewed as dangerous threats, while WWE's version with a black duo is done for comedy.

The show tonight was boring as all fuck, IMO. The Edge and McMahon/Big Show promos, in particularly, were about at stale as it comes. The matches themselves werent anything to write home about either. Everything seemed in slow motion mode for the 9/11 show where I would assume the big ppv selljob angles and substance will be on. I thought I heard a pin drop during the tag contenders match and Crymetyme isnt going to help things out in that division either.

The only hope I see out of Raw is Carlito right now, and thats about it. Everyone and everything on this show was/is absolutely stale, otherwise.

No. It wouldn't and there is precedent from the WWE market that they wouldn't turn off those viewers.

Let's go back to the aforementioned "Lie, Cheat, Steal" angle with Eddie and Chavo. It was done with the same purpose as CrymeTyme. A parody of a popular stereotype.

What followed was an MASSIVE ratings ballon with the hispanic demographic being far and away the top demo for Smackdown. The show revolved around the comedy of two latinos playing up a stereotype that most hispanics connect with. They GOT that it was a parody and they got with Eddie because he used it to his advantage to succeed.

Does that mean CrymeTyme will register? Who knows if these two guys have the charisma that Eddie does to connect but to make an horrible statement like that is completely false just on factual basis alone.

There IS a market for this stuff and it SELLS in a big fucking way.

I'm black and I thought it was the funniest thing I've ever seen in wrestling. But like I said, it's probably because I've lived in some rather shitty neighborhoods where guys who act like that aren't all that uncommon.

I get amused on here a lot how things "will never get over" before they really even start. Sometimes it turns out that way, Fake Kane, sometimes not, Umaga. I'm willing to give anything new a chance.

I have been a mark for Shad "Da Beast" Gaspard down in OVW so I was tickled that he finally debuted with Cryme Tyme. The other guy is called Neighborhoodie down in OVW...he's really, really bad, haha. Gaspard is mediocre in the ring but he's gold on the mic.

I am still going to have to see DX on ECW to believe it. I mean what are we to believe? Heyman already flat out said HHH doesn't work Tuesdays!

SU-PER-CRAY-ZEE!!! got the W over Masters

Terrible ending to Nitro/Hardy...Unforgiven match should be good

Well Hardy and Nitro started off pretty bland but got better towards the end. It was good work considering I would never assume those two could put anything against each other worth a damn.

Crazy and Masters was great. A really solid debut for Super Crazy. Looking forward to where their going with Masters and all this.

6-person was a typical WWE booked integender match but was watchable.

DX/McMahon stuff was fine.

The Kane/Umaga thing could've been done at a better time slot. Since Kane is looked to be Umaga's biggest challenge and may end up winning.

Overall, I thought it was a solid RAW.

the "massive" balloon start with the eddie and chavo skits or when eddie won the title? but whatever..I found the lie, cheat and steal thing racist as well but taking the worst stereotype attributed to black males and playing it off for humor is repulsive and it takes the cake...this is along the same lines as saba simba, race wars '98, mama benjamin, etc and these racistl angles is part of the reason numbers are down across the board...theres many more reasons but wwe sure as hell arent gaining fans and mocking an entire race isnt going to help either

HELL YEAH IT'S CRYME TYME~!

I await the Cryme Tyme white-boy challenge.

Plus Neighborhoodie dropped the n word near the end... this is great... if it leads up to Vince saying one night, "DX... you'll be facing my niggahs...CRYME TYME!!!" it will be worth it. They also have to take the rims off of the McMahon limo.

Does anybody know who is playing Cryme Tyme?

The bigger guy is Shad Gaspard (formerly Da Beast) and the smaller guy is J.T.G. (which stands for Just Too Good, formerly The Neighborhoodie), from OVW.

Gaspard's nickname in OVW was H.N.I.C, "Head Nigger In Charge".

I bet Vince never has shows at MSG again after a large contingent of the MSG crowd shits all over his match with HHH on 9/11

You think this is going to hurt the ratings among African-Americans? Most mainstream rappers base entire CDs around doing much worse to people in their albums and sell millions. This is going to turn off viewers? Nigga please, the BET crowd will flock to this like flies to honey and embrace it. Hell, I'm looking forward to next week's Raw just so I can see Cryme Tyme's next "training video".

I understand not everyone likes WWE and that many things they put on TV shouldn't be on there, but not everything they do is evil.

Oh and for anyone who cares, the Cryme Tyme video is on WWE.com.

Do you not see (I'm sorry, this is going to sound racist, I'm saying I'm sorry now) black people act that way or dress that way now? How many dumbasses wear a ugly ass "grille" in their mouth? How many dumbasses actually dress and talk that way? I'm sorry but if you don't think black (or any other race) actually dress, talk, or act that way, you really must not get out much.

The skit and the team were and are a fucking parody, get a sense of humor and get over it. That entire skit was ment as comedy. You may not have found it funny but it was ment to come across as funny, just like the idea of the tag team. If you find this racist you must find this stuff also racist or sterotypical as well:

-Eugene's Retard gimmick

-Umaga (It maybe a throw back to the glory days of wrestling but people could find that sterotypical)

- The Gangsta's from ECW (Which basically is the same gimmick excpet Cryme Time is a comedy team for right now)

-The Little Bastard

-Kamala

-Bradshaw (Texan who likes to drink, smoke cigars, and fight)

- Everyone who has ever done the Sheik gimmick in some form.

I'm not going to keep listing other gimmicks, but I think you get where I'm coming from. This is pro wrestling, gimmicks like Cryme Time happen all the time, get used to it or quit watching wrestling. Hell I know two indy wrestlers who basically do the same gimmick but their white.

Oh and before I get off the subject, Raw was actually pretty decent tonight. I actually was able to enjoy it tonight.

Da Beast was hilarious on OVW. He was one of the guys on there that was treated as a jobber yet strangely caught my attention. His "Head Nigga In Charge" interviews were gold.

He was hilarious since he'd do this ultra hard promos about being such a "tough nigga from the hood" and then CM Punk would just make him tap in less than 5 minutes. :P

I am legit shocked at nearly everyone enjoying Raw last night - either I was in a foul mood or something as I just didnt see much of anything interesting. How was Edge's promo so special? It seemed like the same cookie cutter Raw intial in ring promo, even added with the standard vignette package on such person in the ring cutting the promo which really has no meaning overall. Sans with the McMahon/Show deal - that just seemed right out of the 80s booking formula - heels blather about nothing for a bit, they insult the fans, the good guys come out and clear house. The security getting their asses kicked happens all too often as well.

I will admit upon a second viewing that the wrestling portion of the show wasnt that bad, but then again, was there anything above ** to ** 1/2 here? Calling Hardy/Nitro one of the best Raw matches of the year is a LONG stretch!

As far as the build for the ppv, I think my problem is that I feel that ppv card overall is extremely weak on paper and the build is kind of all for naught when I see that lineup. So while they may have built the ppv up on this show, I didnt feel it was done very well since I still have no desire to see that ppv.
