Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 Everyone should watch the highlights of the Dodgers/Cubs game for: 1) The awful Cubs defense 2) Pitcher Juan Mateo pinch-running in the 11th and scoring the winning run, despite the most awkard run I've seen in quite some time. naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 The Mets can thank the home plate ump for run # 6 and possibly burning out Borowski's arm for tomorrow. He got squeezed, ended up giving up a single and a bases loaded walk which shouldn't have happened. At the end of the day he ended up throwing 26 pitches, when it should have only been about 18, and the Mets can still tack on some runs they don't deserve. Guest NYankees Report post Posted September 13, 2006 Well it had to end sometime. For the first time since September of 1990 the Braves have been eliminated from the division. Mike and Mike were saying this morning of how it was a great run but not an excellent one.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 Liriano re-injured himself on his 28th pitch of the afternoon, a slider. He was looking pretty much like the old Liriano too. They NEED to shut him down for the rest of the year.

The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 I retract any defense I may have made for Mike and Mike in one of the half-dozen OAO ESPN Sucks threads around here. What a fucking idiotic comment.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 That's really unfortunate for Liriano. Not only will that likely cost him the Rookie of the Year, I'm fearful that his career will ever get back on track. He's at a bad age to be having these sorts of arm problems. I don't usually listen to Mike and Mike, and I'm really glad that I don't. What a stupid, stupid thing to say. The Braves had one of the most dominant runs ever and unfortunately people want to discount it because they didn't win more championships. What a joke. UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 Dear Philadelphia Phillies: Contrary to what many believe, your team nickname, the "Phillies", has nothing to do with horses or blunts, and is in fact just representative of the nickname for Philadelphia, "Philly". So if you're representing a city, and its outskirts, I suppose, then let me tell you something: We do not split three-straight double-headers. Step up. Sweep the shitty Braves. With a little luck, you'll be in THE WILDCARD LEAD by 1/2 game by tomorrow night. Or, more likely, a 1/2 game back. You've had plenty of chances to control your own destiny and keep playing mediocre September ball. Step up, win the race. Stop jerking us around. Not many games left... Thank you. vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 On the Braves' run: I don't see how it couldn't be considered "excellent". I mean, sure, they only got that one WS title, but still...14 times winning the division...and they had some good Marlins and Phillies clubs alot of those years, although, if the strike didn't happen, the Expos probably would've got the division that year. Just as I was about to say that Roy O was going for a complete game 4-hit shutout, he gave up three hits in the bottom of the 9th. 'Stros are still up 5-1, but...Roy's coming out. As long as they don't put in Lidge, the Astros should take at least one game of the series, which would suck, but be better than getting swept.

You're exactly right. It's an excellent run because it's almost completely improbable that a team with a moderate payroll could assemble a team that could win a division 14 straight times. Whether it be a bad free agent signing, injuries, depleted farm system, bad luck or whatever, no team should be able to continue that sort of winning tradition without one misstep. It would have been nice had they won a few more World Series titles during the run, but they really only had a 1 in 8 chance eacy year they made it. Winning 1 or 2 titles is all that would be expected just for simple probability's sake. To me, it is a far greater accomplishment to prove your ability over 162 games than winning a best of 5 or best of 7 series.

Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 That's a shame. With Santana and Lirano and the way they play at home, the Twins could've been unstoppable if they'd made the postseason. That said, they didn't fall off the map in the time Liriano was gone, so it doesn't seem the team's going to throw in the towel because they don't have their second best pitcher. Imagine if by some freak accident, they missed the playoffs, we'd never, ever hear the end of Jeter's unbelievable greatness. ESPN would probably change the name of their network and the MVP award would likely be renamed as well.
Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 Good point. Jeter's bulletproof anyways, so even if they rolled to a title without him, the media would proclaim that they did it for Jeter, or he inspired them from the sidelines.

Wow that is so fucked up. You wish injury on another person just so you can prove a point. Stop hating because the Killer Bees were the biggest choke artists year in and year out in the playfoffs. Derek Jeter has more hits in one playoff game than either Biggio or Bagwell had in every playoff game combined.

Cheech Tremendous 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2006 I didn't wish injury on the guy, but I do think that it would be interesting to see a scenario where the Yankees were as successful playing without Jeter. And what the hell does any of that have to do with Biggio or Bagwell? You are the most non-sensical poster on this board.
