With ECW going head-to-head on 10/10 with the Spike TV Ken Shamrock vs. Tito Ortiz III match, at first the word was WWE was not going to acknowledge or counterprogram.

However, WWE announced today it will have a live strip poker game with all the women in the promotion (Raw, Smackdown and ECW) as its counter to the UFC two-hour live show.

I'll bet anyone that the Strip Poker special will get higher ratings than Shamrock vs. Ortiz III.

UFC viewership caps out at maybe 1.6 or 1.8. The only reason why they garner great PPV buyrates relative to WWE is because about 80 percent of the people who watch UFC on Spike order the PPV's; whereas, for WWE, only 10-15 percent of RAW/Smackdown viewers purchase the PPV's.

And which one will do more long-term good for their respective groups?

Which shows just how great a job UFC is doing. They have less viewers to their TV show and still get more people to buy their PPV's than WWE can.

And the percentage of Raw/SD viewers who get the PPV's is around 5%.

I'm slightly curious as to what stupid way they'll avoid showing nudity, but otherwise I'll probably forget about this. It'll draw about the same rating as the Diva Search finale, maybe higher because of the established divas. I'll laugh if it does out-draw UFC. Would it have any affect on the perceived Wrestling/MMA rivalry if WWE could embarrass UFC with a diva special?

Only to people who hate MMA. The reality is that the viewers UFC draw are far more likely to want to come back than the viewers who'll get drawn by the Strip Poker.

Won't the people who go out of their way to watch strip poker already be avid WWE viewers? I don't see that special drawing non-fans, unlike Ortiz/Shamrock.

Any non-fans that the special actually draws will either never tune back in out of disgust, or tune back in wanting to see more hot women and then tune back out when they finally realize they can see far hotter women, and see them naked, elsewhere.

you can get the same level of top titty cleavage by watching those late night julie strain b-movies on spike tv.

Wow, this is cool. I didn't think WWE was petty enough to be trying to beat UFC in the ratings that mean nothing (since WWE gets no money from ads now) when they should more concerned with UFC kicking their ass in PPV buyrates.

WWE would rather win a battle with NO money involved than winning the one with ALL of the money involved. That's WWE logic at its best.

Besides, without Trish there, this is going to be a trainwreck of a segment anyway.

And isn't there a little project called ECW that has to force fed to the WWE audience that night?

I wonder how they will rig a poker game. Well, probably not much different from regularly rigged poker games.

Is this going to be the entire show or just the advertised special attraction?
