Bored 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 If by the slim chance the A's haven't clinched by Wednesday night I'm cutting myself off from anything baseball related until October 3rd. The t.v. schedule is incomplete as it will depend on what games matter come this weekend. ESPN usually has games on Wednesday so I'm not sure if they're just not showing any games that day or if they will pick up one with playoff implications, same thing with Friday. There is no Sunday Night game. I think even Yankees fans would agree their game against the Orioles on Thursday doesn't really need national television. ESPN/Fox Games to Poison Our Youth THURSDAY Blue Jays (A.J. Burnett) at Tigers (Kenny Rogers), 1:00 PM EST/10:00 AM PST, ESPN2 Orioles (Daniel Cabrera) at Yankees (Randy Johnson), 7:00 PM EST/4:00 PM PST, ESPN2 SATURDAY Dodgers at Giants, 1:00 PM PST, FOX
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 Fresh off a sweep of the 1st place Cards, the Astros send out rookie pitcher Matt Albers to try and cool down the hot Phils. ...I wonder if Roger'll be good to go tomorrow...

UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 The "killers" of the Phillies post-season dreams, for each year since '93 that they've gotten close, have been the Braves, Marlins, and Astros. The Phils officially eliminated the Braves from the playoffs this weekend. The Phils can officially eliminate the Marlins with a win today. The Phils can cut the Astros elimination # to just 1 with a win today. Now THAT would be a sweet week for Phils fans. Randy Wolf is gonna go today. Hope he can last more than 5 innings as he prepares for bullpen duty if the Phils win the WC.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 Two big games tonight. The Astros travel to Philadelphia for a makeup game, Matt Albers vs. Randy Wolf. The Phils are a half game up on the idle Dodgers, while the Astros trail the Cardinals by 3.5 in the Central. The Padres visit St. Louis for the first of three games tonight. The Padres lead the West by 1.5, and the Cards lead the Central by 3.5. Both teams have a chance to create some breathing room, and the Cardinals especially need to stop the latest surge by the Astros. The Astros have made up five games in the standings in the last five games.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 Didn't the Tigers alread clinch a spot? Yes they did. I don't know what's wrong with their system. Maybe they see the possible ties with Minnesota and fail to have the proper tiebreakers in place. Either way, 10000:1 are good odds.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 Cardinals fans shouldn't worry too much. Their last seven games are at home, and they have the third-best home record in the NL.
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 The reaction of several Astro fans here is that they are all but in the playoffs now. As if making up 3.5 games in the standings with only 7 to play (all on the road) and no head-to-head games with the team you're chasing is easily done... vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 It won't be easy, but it's do-able. I just don't understand when dude up there said the Phillies could cut the Astros E# to 1 if they win today. I believe it currently stands at 5. Yeah, anyway, if the Astros pull one out tonite, there's a chance they realistically could go 7-0 to end the season. Their last games are against the Pirates and the Braves. John Smoltz might start for the Braves, but probably not.
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 Astros' E number for the wild card is 3. It is 5 for the division. Astros better go 7-0 to end the season. Anything less and I don't see it happening for them. The Cards are likely to go at least 4-3, especially with Carpenter going twice; in that scenario, even 6-1 ain't good enough. Guest Report post Posted September 25, 2006 I'm hoping for a flowing Astros game diatribe tonight. This series with the Rockies is huge.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 I could realistically see the Cards going 3-4 to end the season. Carpenter only pitches twice and they've gotta face, on the whole, tougher pitchers than the Astros. The Cards face Chris Young, Ben Sheets, Capuano, and Dave Bush. The 'Stros, luckily, don't have to face either Cole Hamels or Brett Myers tonite and there's a good chance Smoltz won't start the last game of the season. However, there's the issue of home vs. road. The Cards are at home and the 'Stros are on the road. The Cards have been much better at home and pretty bad on the road; same with the 'Stros. If my 'Stros don't win the division, it's still cool to see em put up such a fight. And I don't think Czech has the arm strength to hurl his TV from Illinois all the way to Houston. He's not Magnus ver Magnusson or anything. And if the 'Stros win, you can betcha there'll be a long diatribe. Hopefully naiwf won't get too upset.
UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 I like how the Padres have a BETTER shot at making the playoffs than the Phillies, even though both teams are 1/2 game above the same team for the final spot and the Padres play a tougher schedule. jwest27 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 97.9 eh? I can live with those odds. I share Czech's sentiments, no offense to viva. God, I am so tired of Oswalt, Pettite, and Clemens. And Berkman. And the crawford boxes.
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 And I got tired of seeing the Braves in the playoffs for 15 years and I'm still tired of seeing the Yankees buying their way to division titles. We don't always get what we want.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 Meh, I love Oswalt, Pettitte, and Clemens. They're like some wicked three-headed pitching monster. And I don't see how anybody can hate Lance Berkman. He's like Pujols but not Dominicana. And it's not like the Cards haven't had a playoff appearance in the last 15 years like the Tigers. They've been in the postseason as much as the 'Stros. It looks like this postseason will be interesting with a few of the usuals in it and also some new blood like the Tigers, Mets, Phils, and Twins. jwest27 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 I'm not saying I hate them personally. I'm just tired of facing them and having to go through Oswalt, Pettite, and Clemens. I don't hate Berkman either, just tired of him and the way he treats our pitchers like it's batting practice. I just wanted to vent a little, considering we just got friggin' swept by said Astros and our team looks like it's half dead going into the playoffs.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 I can understand that. I really do like the Cardinals...mostly. I really like Pujols and Eckstein in particular. The only two Cardinals I really don't like at all are Carpenter and Looper. I have unjustified dislike of Carpenter, and I just really, really don't like Looper and his stupid smile. My Dad thinks he looks like John Lithgow. I always get kinda mad at my fellow Astros' fans when they boo at Pujols after what he did in the NLCS. It's not Albert's fault that Lidge hung a slider. And I got really angry the other nite when Vizcaino came up to pinch-hit and Astros' fans booed him. I love Viz and his goggles. Now I'm just rambling so I'm going to go write my paper about Cortes and Moctezuma. Go 'Stros!
naiwf 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 God, I am so tired of Oswalt, Pettite, and Clemens. And Berkman. And the crawford boxes. PREACH! With the Braves out, I'm just hoping to see StL, LA & SD make it to crush the hopes and dreams of the Phillies and hopefully the West winner can eliminate the Pujolses so I don't have to hear the media slurp on him for the whole postseason. Living in NYC our sports talk radio stations get a lot of calls from fans of the Pennsylvania teams and it's already bad enough with the Eagles 4 Super Bowl CHAMPS!~ type stuff, so there's no way I want to hear how they're about to win the World Series with ease and all that shit too. Annabelle 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 i almost hate the astros as much as the red sox. almost. and i sure hope the dodgers squeek in. but really, they've done everything they could of late to not make it. they're the most inconsistent team in the league. they lose something like 12 straight then win 13 straight. those weirdos. UseTheSledgehammerUh 0 Report post Posted September 25, 2006 Didn't go to Phils last home game tonight, instead decided to play intramural dodgeball. We got beat. Bad decision. So I'm hoping for Howard to have a big game, Wolfie to last 7, and a big win.
