bob_barron 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 I don't know, I think it's Yankees then Knicks if both teams were equal in terms of winning. If Bernie plays tommorow it will be the last game he plays as a Yankees. It's a shame a champion like himself has to go down in defeat with a bunch of losers who show no heart. It's Cartman the NY version
NYU 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 Basketball is a definite solid third behind baseball and football in New York. The Knicks don't compare to the Yankees or the Giants as far as media attention. The Mets and the Jets are the red-headed stepchildren of New York City, but it could be debatable that even they have gotten more attention than the Knicks in the past ten years. naiwf 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 I think the Knicks benefit from not splitting the fanbase. The amount of hoops fans in NYC who would root for the Nets or anyone else outside of the tri-state area is miniscule. With baseball, the bandwagon fans tip the scales from one team to the other every decade or so. I haven't really lived through an extended period of both teams sucking, so it's hard to tell. I wouldn't be shocked if the Yankees go in the shitter after Steinbrenner passes and the Mets "reclaim" the city. Having said that, even with all of the hoopla around baseball season I'd still say NY in general cares most about football because The Giants and Jets will always maintain their fanbases and neither team has been great for about 10-15 years. Same thing with the Rangers. It's baseball and basketball that see the ebbs and flows the most, but the Garden was the place to be during the Ewing era. Now it's a graveyard. Guest Paul Report post Posted October 7, 2006 Great outing for Kenny Rogers tonight. Shut them down. I'm sure all his Yankee's Demons are gone now. I'm confidant about the Yankees going into tomorrow against Bonderman. Then, hopefully, a game 5 with Wang on the mound at Yankee Stadium. So many guys left on the bases... And I fear for a 2007 Yankees without Mussina.

The Knicks still sellout every game, why I dont know. The Knicks used to be huge back in the early 1990's in New York. They were by far the most popular team in NY from 1992-1995 during the Pat Riley era. I do know alot of Knicks fans who just dont give a shit anymore because the team has been horrible for the past 5-6 years with no signs of a future. I do know several people who have switched over to watching Nets basketball.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 I love anytime the Yankees lose, to be sure, but this is not '04. As said, that was a once in a lifetime event. Given the average rate of 0-3 series comebacks in any of the big three, it'll be another 30 years before we see one of those. Also, Justice, where the hell have you been

Mussina can go somewhere else for 18 million and blow leads in Playoff games. He is unwelcomed.

MFer 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 Man I want to be at Comerica so bad! Kenny was just WOW, that's all u can really say. Gotta like the Bonderman/Wright matchup. Guess I'll have to "settle" for going the UM beatdown of State at The Big House. On another note: I coulda swore that Jeter and A-Rod were best friends early in their careers. Annabelle 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 i love that the yanks are turning on themselves. i won't be completely sold until the series is sealed. then i'll discuss the yanks fall. i'm glad the game is about 14 hours after tonights game...it allows the momentum & hurt feelings to continue. no time to heal. lomasmoney 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 well take your shit and eat it too. The Tigers were counted out before one game was played in this series. I am just thankful that this team is helping to restore pride in the city. With the Wings and Pistons blowing it and the economy being in the shitter, Detroit needed a team like this to bring life to the city. I just can't believe that the team i followed when they couldn't win 50 games is almost on the cusp of beating the best offensive lineup i have ever seen. I am so proud of this team just because they have never ever quit
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 Let's not get ahead of ourselves guys. It's 2 games to 1. The Yankees only need to win two to advance. If they win tonight then theyhave Chien-Ming Wang on the mound for game five, at home. So far, it seems like everyone's declaring the losing team dead for the rest of the series. It's funny how this works. I think you see it at its worse during the NBA playoffs. You're never as bad as you looked in your last loss, nor as good as you looked in your last win. Rogers lasted 7 2/3 yesterday. That's the most he's pitched in any postseason series in his career. It was also his first career postseason win. Redemption is a beautiful thing. Cartman 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 If you guys don't want Mike Mussina, I'll take him. I generally hate the Yankees, but for some reason I like and respect Mike Mussina. He's your General Leo. Nice reference! I really wanted Mussina to come to Boston years ago when he was a Free Agent. We ended up getting Manny instead so there's definitely no regrets there but I always liked Moose in Baltimore and he, along with Matsui and Rivera are the Yankee players I like most. Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 Comparison has already been made been made before with A-Rod... but same here. Any team would want Mussina. Only Yankee fans want to see his ass gone.
Guest Paul Report post Posted October 7, 2006 Bullshit. There's only 1 idiot in this thread that wants him gone. As stated, 2007 Yanks without Moose is NOT something I even want to think about. The guy is a solid #2 or #3 starter. "Blew a lead"...the bats didn't score more than 3 runs that game. He allowed 4. Many runners stranded on bases. Poor hitting, is not Moose's fault. KingPK 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 Mussina kept Game 7 in '03 close after Clemens was chased out early on. He's been up and down in his career, but it seems like he's hit a sort of groove ever since he came off the DL last year. I'd take him.

The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 Eighth? Torre must be nervous as hell.
Guest Paul Report post Posted October 7, 2006 "Somebody had to bite the dust"- Torre on benching Giambi. Melky Cabrera will be in LF field today, with Matsui at DH. Sheff is back on first and hitting cleanup.
The Man in Blak 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2006 This is some backwards logic from Torre. He benches Sheffield against the soft-tossing lefty. He benches Giambi against the righty. And then there's batting ARod eighth...which is such a foreign idea that my brain is still having problems taking it in.
