iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 I like the Cards in 7 here. Carpenter should be able to win two against Trachsel and Oliver Perez is pretty much a guaranteed loss for NY. I'm not expecting Weaver to pick up a game against Glavine, but I do think that Suppan should be good for at least a split. BTW, if you were Willie Randolph, wouldn't you switch to a 3-man rotation for this series? I think sending Glavine to the mound three times would give them a lot better shot at winning the series than letting Perez get a start.

I think sending Glavine to the mound three times would give them a lot better shot at winning the series than letting Perez get a start. Believe me, I don't want Oliver Perez anywhere near the mound in any playoff series, but with Glavine tradtionally pitching poorly on short rest, Randolph doesn't have a lot of choice in the matter. devo 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2006 ROSTER: Here’s a look at the Mets’ 25-man roster for the National League Championship Series vs. the Cardinals. PITCHERS (11): Chad Bradford, Pedro Feliciano, Tom Glavine, Aaron Heilman, Roberto Hernandez, John Maine, Guillermo Mota, Darren Oliver, Oliver Perez, Steve Trachsel, Billy Wagner. CATCHERS (2): Paul Lo Duca, Ramon Castro INFIELDERS (7): Carlos Delgado, Julio Franco, Anderson Hernandez, Jose Reyes, Jose Valentin, Chris Woodward, David Wright OUTFIELDERS (5): Carlos Beltran, Endy Chavez, Cliff Floyd, Shawn Green, Michael Tucker I'm glad that they finally kicked DiFelice to the curb and that Floyd will be available in some capacity, but I'm curious as to why they picked up Anderson Hernandez of all people with that free spot. I guess they wanted a backup infielder besides Woodward and Franco, as Woodward's only decent in the field and Franco shouldn't play any position besides first. God knows they won't be getting any offensive production out of Hernandez. Edit: Also, I love the two-page cover of today's Daily News, even if it makes Willie Randolph look like Snidley Whiplash. devo 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 It was such a bad idea to start Floyd. I'd be amazed if he makes it through this entire game. Edit: Shit, maybe I should have amended that to say inning. Edit the second: God I love it when Beltran does that.

devo 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 Mets fans: is Lo Duca really the heart and soul of the team or was Brennaman joining the group of people who terribly overrate his ability/presence? There are at least five people in that clubhouse who are the "heart and soul" of the team. I wouldn't put too much stock into it. I <3 Carlos Beltran. the max 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 Mets fans: is Lo Duca really the heart and soul of the team or was Brennaman joining the group of people who terribly overrate his ability/presence? Brennaman must be receiving notes from Plaschke.
devo 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 Tom Glavine has pitched thirteen consecutive scoreless innings and has just been amazing. At the same time, I've gotta admit that Weaver looked really good out there until Beltran's home run and Delgado's double, that latter of which made it clear that his night was over. Terrific defense and another all-around superb pitching performance from the Metropolitans, who face a tough challenge in Chris Carpenter tomorrow. Let's see if John Maine can add to his ever-growing reputation with an impressive start.
naiwf 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2006 Mets fans: is Lo Duca really the heart and soul of the team or was Brennaman joining the group of people who terribly overrate his ability/presence? Reyes or Wright would be the "heart and soul" depending on who you asked. Lo Duca is a decent piece, but the verbal fellatio about his value/skillset really needs to stop. On any given night when everyone's playing, he's at best the 5th most important Met on the field.
devo 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2006 Well, that answers a lot of my questions about tonight's game. A Delgado home run puts the Mets up 3-0 in the bottom of the first. Edit: Someone needs to put together a GIF of the first base umpire trotting towards the mound and waving his arms girlishly above his head.

devo 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2006 Delgado's second home run of the night makes it 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth. Man, for all the talk about Beltran, it's the other Carlos that's been having a phenomenal postseason thus far.
