Edwin MacPhisto Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Hey, my dad has a plane like that. Cirrus SR-20. Dad's is a 22. Another one went down east of NYC earlier this year, but that guy deployed the parachute (pretty much every Cirrus has an actual parachute for the whole plane built into the top). Really fun to fly in one. Also, Bob wins the thread.
Masked Man of Mystery Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 This really sucks, and if I find out some dumb fan did this, I swear to God I will give up on sports. I say this as a Red Sox fan. RIP, another was taken from us before his time Huh? Did what? Lidle, crashed. In what way are you implicating a fan's involvement? I said IF. The thought just occurred to me, I was probably being stupid, and I'll admit that, but I wouldn't put it past some nutjobs

Feel free to give up on sports nonetheless, though.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Single-engine planes often use fuel that's light blue in color, so maybe an irate fan broke into his hangar and replaced it all with Windex. Or blue gatorade. Masked Man of Mystery, I've solved the case.
Guest Princess Leena Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Have we blamed Anglesault or TheDon yet.

USC Wuz Robbed! Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Have we blamed Anglesault or TheDon yet. Only if it was Jeff Weaver flying the plane.
NYU Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Steinbrenner killed Lidle to spoil the Mets NLCS series. In all seriousness though, this is an awful tragedy.
Cheech Tremendous Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Jesus fucking christ!!! I am in a state of shock. I cant believe he is dead. I just heard him doing a radio interiew on Mike and the Maddog yesterday. It's funny how life can end so easily. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, his teammates and his loved ones. RIP Cory. Was this the interview were they ripped him for his attitude after he said that he was enjoying a nice day in New York? I heard that they went off him because he wasn't show the same pain from being eliminated that the fans of the team were.
In Credible Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 That's too bad, he seemed like a nice guy.
naiwf Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 That was the one. I thought it was on Monday though. Not that it really matters at this point since that's what everyone will remember.
Slayer Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Also, Bob wins the thread. He did, but then you stole the trophy with your Windex post
Guest Smues Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 RIP. (Bob wins thread, Edwin a close 2nd, Czech takes honorable mention)
JangoFett4Hire Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 If Brian Cashman didn't trade for Lidle, he'd still be alive. Iggy we should all blame Cash-money. This is shocking, sad news.

Cashman did go on record stating that he wouldn't have made the trade unless Lidle was included. He must be feeling very guilty and saddened.

I heard that they went off him because he wasn't show the same pain from being eliminated that the fans of the team were. They got into him because he made some comment about the team not being prepared or something along those lines. He then went onto state that he didn't recall making that statement. Can people stop trolling on these boards. COUGHLEENACOUGH COUGHFELONIESCOUGH. A person just died and you people show zero respect to the dead but you can make stupid comments.

Cheech Tremendous Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Confirmed now that it was Cory and his flight instructor. He made a mayday call shortly before the crash. Also should be noted that while he did make $17 million in his career, he is not eligible for the MLB pension plan because he crossed the picket lines during the '94 strike.
Guest Felonies! Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Point to where I mocked Cory Lidle, TheDon?

This is shocking, sad news. Oh for fucks sake. We are looking for fucking blame here. THERE'S NO ONE TO BLAME! It was an accident. It's not Cashman's fault. it's not Steinbrenner's fault. It's not A-Rod's fault. IT'S NO ONE'S FAULT!
Guest Felonies! Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 I like ESPN's sad and reflective variation on the Sportscenter theme.
randomguy Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 I blame the Wright Brothers for inventing the airplane.
tominator89 Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Terrible news. I recall Comcast SportsNet having a special feature on Lidle's flying hobby before he was traded. They had a camera man fly with him and everything.
Brett Favre Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 Yeah, a while back Jeter made a joke about how he's the team's backup pilot. Sad to see him go like that.

Precious Roy Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 A terrible tragedy. I'm thankful that no bystanders or apartment dwellers were killed. RIP Cory
Guest Paul Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 I like ESPN's sad and reflective variation on the Sportscenter theme. Indeed. I wonder if they've been holding that in the vault for such a day.
Guest Felonies! Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 I made a banner for Downhome to use.
