Guest Smues Report post Posted October 28, 2006 And the World Series can't be over without the Chevy commercial one more time. THIS IS ECK'S COUNTRY!
Guest NYankees Report post Posted October 28, 2006 Can Fox please fire Jeanie Zelasko or whatever the fuck her name is. God I cannot stand that bitch. More chevy commercials. What happens to the 2006 Tigers World Series T shirts and Hats.
Just John 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2006 I'm glad Pujols has a ring now. That's coming from an Astros fan. Anyway, there's no way you can call this a fluke. They were kind of like the Steelers earlier this year. Say what you will about them backing in, they played the best when it mattered and beat everyone put in front of them. You say any NL team could beat the Tigers, but no one could beat the Cardinals. Congrats STL.
Anakin Flair 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2006 Well I'll be damned. The Cards didn't choke this year. On the one hand, I know we won mostly due to luck. On the other hand, it's great that we won the championship in the first year in the new stadium. And Detroit just stated the obvious...
Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2006 Is Bud Selig a Jew? I think it was funny that he didn't know how to pronounce Eckstein. Congratulations to the 2002 champion California Angels!
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted October 28, 2006 Keep playing this damn commercial to make this more annoying. Ugh.
Open the Muggy Gate 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2006 STOP PLAYING THAT COMMERCIAL YOU FUCKING TOOLS! EDIT: That Bud Light commercial is awesome though.
iggymcfly 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2006 It's neat to see the Cardinals win the World Series. I've kind of been following them all year, (ever since I took Pujols on my fantasy team), and watching them overcome the odds this postseason has been fun. It's also really nice to see Pujols get a ring, since he's been the most dominant player in baseball for the last two or three years now.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2006 Is Bud Selig a Jew? I think it was funny that he didn't know how to pronounce Eckstein. Congratulations to the 2002 champion California Angels! Just because they want to call themselves the Anaheim Angels, doesn't mean the rest of us have to. They are the California Angels until the end of time and they can like it. Unless they leave California, then the name change sounds fair.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2006 What happens to the 2006 Tigers World Series T shirts and Hats. They usually go to charity and end up in a 3rd world country. Congrats Cards. A World Series win in your inaugural season at New Busch Stadium. Nice.
Guest NYankees Report post Posted October 28, 2006 Kenny Rogers, Kharma is a bitch, Cheater! My favorite video package was the one at the end of the 2000 World Series where they had the song Time to Say Goodbye.

A World Series win in your inaugural season at New Busch Stadium. Nice. Yea, UndertakerHart is right on that one. I remember reading a story in SI many years ago that quoted one cameraman who went to Cameroon and saw a bunch of kids running around in "Buffalo Bills: Super Bowl Champions" t-shirts. I'd be lieing if I said that didn't make me chuckle.
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2006 Hooray. First time Cardinals won a series in my lifetime. *slowly backs away from the sports folder*
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2006 Isn't it weird that the Tigers actually had won the World Series more recently than the Cardinals until tonight (1984 for Detroit, 82 for STL)? It's strange since the Tigers basically fell of the face of the earth for nearly 2 decades and the Cardinals have for the most part stayed in the mix. Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2006 I'm glad Rolen and Edmonds have rings. Same with Pujols. Weaver was a dumbass for us, but I'm also happy for him. Congrats to all of them; to me they were pretty fun to watch.

MFer 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2006 Really we shouldn't be surprised at this result. Every series in these playoffs have gone the opposite of what was expected. Everyone was drinking the NL West's Kool-Aid cause of the way they finished the regular season, but the Padres and Dodgers couldn't get the job done. Minny was hot and they had Santanna. Some ppl even had them in the W.S. Obviously no one thought Detroit could beat the Yankees. Eveyone had the Mets over the Cards. Most ppl had the A's over the Tigers b/c of their experience and pitching. By time we got to the W.S. everyone jumped on the Tiger bandwagon and buried the Cards. The long layoff was supposed to help the Tigers but it seemed to work to their disadvantage. Detroit would have much rather played the underdog.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted October 28, 2006 They were? I figured the NL West would lose in the first round, just as they did the last times they went to the postseason.
randomguy 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2006 The Mets were really the big losers here, injuries in the final weeks of the season and still played down to the last out. The Tigers turned into the As, they have only themselves to blame.
J. Hungerford Smith 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2006 Yadier Molina was the clear cut MVP, while Eckstein came up big the last 2 games, Molina was consistent not only throughout this series hitting over .400 but coming up huge for the entire playoffs. Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted October 28, 2006 Eckstein did deserve WS MVP, though. He was their best hitter for all the games in STL.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2006 Kind of an underwhelming World Series overall (partly due to FOX's usual crappy coverage), but it's nice for the Cards to have a championship. Now I just hope they fall off the cliff next year so the NL Central is a little more open (well, actually it was wide open this year, but no other team bothered to capitalize). The Tigers on paper were the better team and they didn't show up. The week layoff really did them harm.

The only bad era during that time for the Cardinals was the Joe Torre era. The team never finished above second place during his tenure of 6 years. Yes, clearly his fault. Nothing to do with the fact that their pitching was mediocre at best the entire time. Whitey Herzog finished below second in six of his ten years, too, you know, including the three right before Torre was hired. I love how teams are defined by who's managing them, as if that has any impact at all.
