Classic Raw...

Recommended Posts

-My recollection may be sketchy...But I remember the build up between HHH/Rocky for the IC Belt(You know when it meant something) at SummerSlam...The Raw before SummerSlam, HHH wasnt there or was taken out I dont remember..But Either The Rock Challenged Chyna or she called him Out and I believe the Rock attacked or something but this led to HBK coming in for the save with steel chair in hand. I thought that was awesome cause I was dying for Shawn to come back at that point in time....

-I thought the beginnings of the McMahon-Helmsley Faction brought about some good stuff. Stephanie's intro into TV as a love interest to Test, which led to them getting engaged. And that classic Raw which was billed as Stephanie and Andrew's wedding which ended which HHH in Vegas at a drive-thru chapel with a "drugged" Stephanie and ended by saying that he was going to "consumate the marriage(HHH was gold in that segment)..A wonderful storyline that Test has yet to recover from...I was watching ECW and was thinking "Damn Test, Do you realize where you were 7/8 years ago?"

-Kane's promo with the Rock and Hogan

-Rock backstage w/ Hogan, Nash, and Hall

-Jim Ross' Shoot on the WWF and Vince McMahon(This is actually when I found out Vince was the owner)in which he brought in Fake Diesel and Razor..This led to Awesome exchanges when Lawler/McMahon/Ross did Raw Commentary..Heel Jim Ross was fucking Awesome

-HHH's return to Raw after the torn quad...Crowd went insanely crazy for HHH...That truly was top 5 greatest pops of all time..

--Someone with good WWF memory/knowledge help with this....I remember a RAW when Billy Gunn Still had his RockaBilly gimmick...Anywayz he was in a match with somebody..and then these people came out and started building an announcing table right by King/Ross...Well I guess the table was suppose to break but Bill gunn got press slammed on it from inside the ring and that table was hard as fucking rock and Billy just bounced off of it...Truly how tables are supposed to made..Does anyone else remember this?

I was thinking the same thing. I thought that happened on Superstars as well.

Yeah, you're right. I'd pretty much stopped watching Superstars at that point, and I only saw tyhe highlights of it on Raw, which is probably why I thought it was on Raw in the first place.

That reminds me of when he was a heel right before WMXV, with Dr. Death as his protege. He had his own announce table right in front of Cole and Lawler's table...

"I can't see, there's a big cowboy hat in my face."

"There's gonna be a big cowboy boot up your ass if you don't shut up."

The thing with Jim Ross as a heel announcer is they never really went anywhere with it both times. He was linked to guys who never did anything and were around for pretty short periods of time (first Razor and Diesel II, who had no personality) and then Dr. Death. Kind of a waste.

I really wish the Razor/Diesel II angle would have worked out better since Steve Corino was in line to be the 1-2-3 Kid II. Honestly, I thought Jacobs did a fine job as Diesel but the dude playing Razor (Rick Bogner?) looked like he was in over his head trying to mimmick another character.

Test coming down the altar to his THEME MUSIC.

TEST TEST THIS IS A TEST!

:::STILL no one knows the lyrics to the song:::

I loved when foley mocked this in "foley is good" also remember, earlier in the show vince gave test a wedding present, a match with HHH, which test actually won IIRC. really ludicrous events.

and I think when it was mentioned about someone coming out and building an announce table next to the real one, you were thinking about the aforementioned "JR is War table" an dyes it was Billy Gunn who got slammed on it, but he was MR Ass by this point

and the reason Chyna was in the ring alone with the nation was cuz the nation had parked a forklift in front of dxs locker room (a trick that has been rehashed a billion times, including the time we saw Ric Flair with a gleeful evil grin driving past the camera)

Here's one that a lot of people thought was controversial at the time:

- Brian Pillman in the middle of the ring, praying for god to kill Steve Austin!

Ric Flair wasn't driving the forklift. Booker T and Big Show were having a hardcore match (or some other sort of brawl) and in the background of a hallway Ric Flair was walking backwards directing HHH who was driving the forklift.

Guest mrbutcherer

Ivory vs Tori street fight. In all manner of undress.

RVD v Dreamer from MSG. Dreamers reaction afterwards, all class.

Masterpiece's early greenhorn masterlock challenges. "Excuse me Sir, yes you, sir... Oh wait, I'm sorry ma'am."

Kane/Mankind HITC.

NWO vs The Rock. Infamous hammer to back of head, followed by 18 wheeler into the ambulance.

Eric Bischoff returning and hugging Vince McMahon.

Yeah, that was a surreal moment, but a huge waste as well. Why couldn't Bischoff have shown up as a surprise and instead feuded with Vince? I think that would've made a lot more money in the long run.

yknow I thought so, but everyone on this board kept mentioning flair driving it so I got confused

the bischoff surprise moment was kinda ruined by the previous segment with Booker T giving a promo, only to be interrupted by Bisch (though I loved Books reaction "tell me i didnt just see that")

- Taka Michinoku almost beating HHH for the title.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I remember that from SmackDown!, not from RAW. I have that on tape somewhere, I'll try and look it up.

Definitely Raw. I only knew because it was posted in either the YouTube thread or JoeDirt's thread recently.

I didn't see this listed (and in hindsight, I could have mentioned it in my marathon post):

A four way tag from August 98:

Rock and D-Lo, Outlaws, Kane and Mankind, Austin/Taker. Kane and Mankind get the belts back from the latter, Rock and Owen were supposed to be the team originally, but DLo was added after Shamrock attacked Owen before the match, a nuclear crowd - everything went right that match.

the Jeff Hardy/Undertaker ladder match was fun

Kurt Angle angleslamming Shane McMahon off of the medal award ceremony podium and the confetti flying everywhere as he hit the mat.

Bret and Vince's hockey fight? Tell me more, as that doesnt ring a bell even slightly.

I think this was right after Bret turned heel. Vince did something to piss him off so he storms down to the announce table. The two exchange words and IIRC the word, "bullshit '' was said by Bret. They get into a scuffle where they pull each others jackets over their head, hence the term ''hockey fight.''

The Vince/Bret hockey scuffle was surreal to me, a 12 year old mark. To see Vince get physical with one of the wrestlers and look as pissed as he did made a huge impact on me.

I still don't rememeber this whatsoever.

Along the lines, I remember the last Raw before Mania 13, Bret shoved Vince after losing a cage match and saying "bullshit" and "god damn" several times. That doesn't quite sound like what you described though.

I want to say this is Bret's reaction to Vince allowing HBK to be the guest referee at Summerslam 97. I could be wrong, though.

Something I was just thinking of...remember when Ken Shamrock first came to WWF? I thought they did a good job building him up on RAW, with him making challenges and such. They even had Dan Severn sit down on commentary during one of his matches, and Severn did a good job putting over Shamrock's MMA background. This was during the time when WWF and UFC were sort of, kind of, working together. Severn even said something like "UFC is the safest sport in the world, no one has been killed in a UFC match, unlike boxing or other sports," and Vince McMahon said "Or even pro-wrestling." Just kind of a weird moment that would never happen today.

The Rock's promo on Toronto the night after turning heel against Hogan.

This is by far my favorite promo ever and I've never been able to find it online. The Rock had me in tears from laughing so hard. I've never heard Canadians get called "mother canuckers" before.

The only other promo that has ever come close to making me laugh like that was when The Rock and Jericho called Steph out on her new boob job.
