NFL Week 14

Recommended Posts

Okay here are the games for the NFL in Week 14. Followed of course the the usual predictions and thoughts.

Thursday 8:00:

Cleveland (4-8) at Pittsburgh (5-7): This was a close game in the first go around, but somehow I can't see the Browns hanging as close on the road. Steelers by 10.

Sunday 1:00:

Indianapolis (10-2) at Jacksonville (7-5): This is always a tough one for the Colts but somehow I can't see them dropping two in a row. Jacksonville is a very up and down team, so who knows. I'll take the Colts by 3.

Tenneseee (5-7) at Houston (4-8): The Titans are officially in Jobber Roll territory and there's no reason why they won't keep it going. Titans by 7.

Baltimore (9-3) at Kansas City (7-5): The Chiefs seriously need this one at home if they want to entertain playoff notions. The Ravens hit a bit of a slide with this one, KC by 6.

Philadelphia (6-6) at Washington (4-8): Who knows. The Skins might show up, might not. I will reluctantly go with the Eagles here, but they are an obvious paper tiger. Philly by 7.

Minnesota (5-7) at Detroit (2-10): The Lions are actually favored here, though I have no idea why. The Vikings have struggled some this year but I think they can win this one. Vikings by 4.

NY Giants (6-6) at Carolina (6-6): The most bizarre matchup of the week. I think it honestly is the team that screws up the most loses. What the hell, I'll keep picking the Giants until they finally win, so NY by 1 point. 21-20.

Atlanta (6-6) at Tampa Bay (3-9): If the Falcons want to entertain a playoff push, they have to win this game. HAVE to. Atlanta by 10.

New England (9-3) at Miami (5-7): Tom Brady is always good for a total tank job in Miami, and I think it'll happen once again here. I'll take the Dolphins in a mild upset, 24-17.

Oakland (2-10) at Cincinnati (7-5): Once again, Bengals must win this one if they want to make the playoffs. Cincy by 14.

4:00:

Green Bay (4-8) at San Francisco (5-7): I keep picking the Packers but no more. The Niners are at least pretty decent at home, so I'll take them by 7.

Seattle (8-4) at Arizona (3-9): This actually will be pretty close I think, but the Seahawks are masters of the art of escape. Seattle by 4.

Buffalo (5-7) at NY Jets (7-5): The Jets are actually fairly decent, though I can't take them seriously whatsoever. Still, they should beat the Bills here by 7.

Denver (7-5) at San Diego (10-2): Dare I say benching Plummer was a mistake? I can't see Cutler going into SD and picking up a win, sorry. Chargers by 10.

8:15:

New Orleans (8-4) at Dallas (8-4): This should be a very good game. It really comes down to whoever has home field in my view. Thus I'll take Dallas 27-24 on another Gramatica FG.

Monday 8:30:

Chicago (10-2) at St. Louis (5-7): Since the Rams can score I am tempted to say upset here, but they also can't defend at all. Bears pound them on the ground and take it out of Grossman's hands. Bears by 10.

Much better lineup this week than in Week 12 or 13. IND/JAX, BAL/KC, DEN/SD, and NO/DAL should all be fun to watch. The energy in the Meadowlands during the Jets game is going to be amazing. Coming home after big win in Lambeau + Game against divisional rival + Playoff implications for a team that was expected to be terrible = Absolutely pumped crowd.

I'm blessed every week.

I just wish I could watch Rivers play more often. I know they gotta ride the money train in LT, but would it kill them to let Rivers bust loose too?

They'll wind up facing a team with a heavy run defense sometime soon. If that team can't stop Tomlinson, then the rest of the league is fucked, and we won't be seeing Rivers let loose.

Rivers can go all out, but they don't have the receivers that command the touches that would necessitate the attention.

I dunno, I do like Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd can be nice too. I'm not really looking for a vertical attack. I'd just be happy with a Tom Brady time-control passing style with Antonio Gates, Keenan McCardell, Eric Parker, Vincent Jackson, Malcom Floyd and even LT.

I didnt see the KC/Cleveland game, but if Cleveland can beat the Chiefs than the Ravens can beat em, even on the road.

No transitive property.

I'm actually going to be out on Long Island this weekend, so I'm mercifully spared OAK/CIN and get NE/MIA instead, which could be good. I just wish that DEN/SD wasn't on at the same time as the Jets. This is the one week where I'd have welcomed a nationally televised Broncos game.

Well, I'll be at the Raiders-Bengals game, but I'll be busting my ass to get home to watch that Chargers-Broncos game.

Don't sell the Ravens short against the Chiefs, their D played excellent against the Bengals last Thursday.

Benoit, best of luck on the Giants game, I'm staying the hell away from that one.

I'll do it this week!

Cleveland @ Pittsburgh

-I thought the NFL network was trying to get people to beg for their network. This game isn't making me pick up the phone to bother some middle aged woman sitting behind a control desk at TW. Pittsburgh is a complete mess and Cleveland looks inspired, even when getting blown out. These two either play each other very close or it’s a blow out from the start. I don't trust Pittsburgh anymore and I know I'll regret that sentiment on Thursday evening but I'll take Cleveland by another slight upset. Cleveland 17 Pittsburgh 13

Indianapolis @ Jacksonville

-These two play very odd against each other. I can never find any remote interest in these games. Jacksonville usually makes Indy earn it and for the sake of reducing the mess in the AFC WC picture, I'll take Indianapolis to play somewhat more inspired this week. Indy 23 Jacksonville 14

Tennessee @ Houston

-Vince Young is starting to prove those doubters wrong with his performances. Houston is still a mess. I'd like to see Young maintain a lead for once instead of these ridiculous comebacks. Tennessee 20 Houston 10

Baltimore @ Kansas City

-Baltimore got tremendously exposed last week and the score was only kept close because of a garbage time score and Baltimore's defense bailing them out yet again. KC is scary good at home in winter conditions. Baltimore got hit in the gut and will get knocked down again. Baltimore 13 KC 27

Oakland @ Cincinnati

-Classic trap game situation here for Bengals. Big shutdown win against division rivals on prime time with the big MNF against Indy coming next week? Not to mention an extra couple days of lay-offs (and that produced another arrest, naturally). I'd like to say Cincy will smash Oakland quick to rest the starters for the next two games but it'll be closer then it really should. Oakland 17 Cincinnati 26

Philadelphia @ Washington

-Philadelphia refuses to just do the honorable thing and roll over and die. Skins are probably the most confusing team in a long line of confusing teams. I'll take Philly in a typically ugly game just to further crush the hopes of that city when they fall down at 8-8. Philly 16 Washington 10

Minnesota @ Detroit

-Any time you need to get things on track, you just roll into Detroit. You know what? Fuck it, Detroit will win this one somehow. Every week, we get a wtf game and I'll risk it with Detroit here. Minnesota 13 Detroit 16

NYG @ Carolina

-More confusing teams, this time against each other. It'll be a battle of turnovers against stupid penalties. With complete hesitation, I'll take Carolina since Coughlin's meltdown will come faster with another inept game call. NYG 24 Carolina 28

Atlanta @ Tampa

-No excuses here for Mr. Vick. It'll be close but Atlanta shouldn't drop this one. Atlanta 23 Tampa 14

New England @ Miami

-Every QB has that *one* team that just owns him and for Brady, it's Miami. Miami will take a squeaker here. NE 14 Miami 16

Green Bay @ San Francisco

-Ugh. In the NFL's efforts to make sure as many people watch Denver play, they forced my market to watch this game for no apparent reason. SF looks more alive around there and this could either be a 4 td game for Favre or a 4 INT game for Favre. I'll take both here. Green Bay 31 San Francisco 35

Seattle @ Arizona

-Seattle continues their typically unimpressive season despite being 8-4. Arizona, keeps things right by playing like the Arizona Cardinals, new stadium be damned. Seattle needs to WIN here. Not another fucking FG. It's Arizona, here. No reason they shouldn't pound a couple extra TDs for good measure but they won't. Seattle 20 Arizona 17.

Buffalo @ NYJ

-Jets have the easiest road to getting trounced by Baltimore in the first round. I hope the Jets blow a game because they have such an soft schedule. I'll take NYJ here, though because...well...It's Buffalo. Buffalo 13 NYJ 21

Denver @ San Diego

-I like LT. I like Rivers. I even like that curmudgeon running the team. I don't like the turtle that runs the other team, I don't like the 13 year old running around scared, I don't like the porn star back-up. I don't like the rotating door at RB. Who do I have to see every week on my television? Exactly. The team that will eat a horrible lost this weekend. Denver 17 (what else?) San Diego 34

New Orleans @ Dallas

-Hey! A flex game that feels like a legitimate game of the week. Should be pretty fun and I'll take the hot Cowboys right now. NO 23 Dallas 26

Chicago @ St. Louis

-Grossman is good for 3 INT's here even if the Rams aren't nearly good enough to honestly procure 3 ints. Call it a ground game and we'll get a fairly uninteresting win for Chicago. Chicago 14 St. Louis 9

Crush the hopes of the city when they fall down at 8-8? You do realize that most likely a 8-8 team will win a wild card spot right?

Amazing that the Titans could end up finishing at .500 despite starting the year 2-7. They always beat Houston, the Jags and Bills are winnable games, the Patriots might be in 'rest all the starters' mode in week 17, an 8-8 record is surprisingly possible. And that's with two 1 point losses, a 3 point loss and Kerry Collins ensuring their season was practically over by week 5.

I stink at picking games..but I feel especially lucky (or maybe just boredom) this week for some reason so..

Cleveland @ Pittsburgh - I Dont want to see either team win, so I say 17-17 TIE!

Indianapolis @ Jacksonville - Jacksonville is no Tennessee even though they're still in the playoff chase and Tennessee isn't. The Jaguars will be joining them after the game.. Indy 34 Jacksonville 13

Tennessee @ Houston - Battle for 3rd place in the AFC South! Vince Young > Mario Williams but Houston > Nashville so..Houston 21 Tennessee 17

Baltimore @ Kansas City - Baltimore 23 KC 14

Oakland @ Cincinnati - The Bengals march towards a wild card continues with this game. Oakland is playing for the #1 draft pick since they are the only team in the NFL eliminated from the playoffs. The math is easy, unfortunately..Cincy 31 Oakland 10

Philadelphia @ Washington - The only thing the Redskins have going for them here is that Jeff Garcia is bound to turn into Jeff Garcia sooner than later, but it wont happen in Washington. Philly 20 Washington 7

Minnesota @ Detroit - Detroit is actually favored to win the game so you should pick them..to lose! Youd think the people in Vegas would know better than to pick Detroit..Minnesota 27 Detroit 10

NYG @ Carolina - The Carolina Panthers will be the ones blowing this game late, but the Giants wont be any happier about it even with the win. NYG 24 Carolina 23

Atlanta @ Tampa - I Dont see why Tampa cant pull an upset..Tampa's been respectable at home. Atlanta only ended a 4 game losing streak by beating up on a hapless Redskins team. Everyone will be in shock again..Tampa Bay 23 Atlanta 14

New England @ Miami - Had the Dolphins won last week..Id be going on about how they wanted to keep their playoff hopes alive and all, but now that we're past that, Harrington will get hit back into Detroit and probably wishing he was there..New England 24 Miami 6

Green Bay @ San Francisco

-I'll go ahead and say Favre gets 4 TDs this week but some4INTShow GB loses anyway...San Francisco 34 GB 31 OT

Seattle @ Arizona - Seattle's coasting right into the playoffs despite being hit with injuries to everyone on the team it seems, and they'll keep it going. Seattle 27 Arizona 14

Buffalo @ NYJ - the Jets go in as one of 5 7-5 teams looking for a Wild Card spot and they'll leave as one of 2 8-5 teams, but it wont be as easy as you think. NYJ 21 Buffalo 17

Denver @ San Diego - Jay Cutler will probably be wishing he'd never been drafted after this game. Denver's QB move will cost them a playoff spot but thats ok..cause they still have John Elway to reminisce about! SD 31 Denver 16

New Orleans @ Dallas - Dallas is the new team in the NFC hyped up and ready to roll into the Super Bowl, but theres a speedbump coming in NO and Mr. Romo is going to be feeling it the most. New Orleans 27 Dallas 21 in your game of the Week

Chicago @ St. Louis - St. Louis still has a shot at the Wild Card despite needing an awful lot of help. Chicago is one more bad game away from "WE WANT KYLE ORTON!" I dont know what the hell happened to Grossman other than he finally realized he sucks, but I figure for it to continue for another week. St. Louis 19 Chicago 12

I'm looking forward to this week's games. Dallas/NO will be a lot of fun. GB/SF should be a fun a shootout. NYG/Carolina will be a good battle of two DESPERATE teams, and I always enjoy watching the Chargers play.
